Abstract

In this digital era, students often lack motivation in conventional English learning. Although ice-breaking is found to be helpful, conventional methods can feel monotonous for students who are familiar with digital technology, and the impact of digital ice-breaking has not been widely explored. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of digital ice-breaking (using platforms such as Bamboozle, Kahoot! and Quizizz) on the learning motivation of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Diwek. A pre-experimental design with one pre-test/post-test group was used on 31 eighth-grade students in class C. Motivation was measured using a questionnaire before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the digital ice-breaking treatment. The results showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.009) between the pre-test motivation scores (mean = 30.29) and post-test scores (mean = 33.36). The Paired Samples T-test (t = -2.790) and moderate effect size (Cohen's d = -0.501) confirmed the positive impact of the treatment. Digital ice-breaking proved to be effective in increasing students' motivation in learning English.

Abstract

With the increasing demand for English proficiency in hospitality, ESP training becomes important to bridge the gap between communicative needs and current employee performance. Then, needs analysis serves as a foundation of ESP course design as the first phase to conduct a thorough identification of the learners’ needs to use the target language. This study investigated the English language needs in a five-star hotel in Jakarta involving 53 hoteliers from housekeeping, concierge, security, food and beverage, and engineering departments. The data were collected through questionnaires consisting of personal information, necessities, wants, lacks, and learning needs. The findings revealed that speaking and listening skills were the utmost used English skills in a five-star hotel in Jakarta. Consequently, the ESP course content should reflect the real workplace conditions. The hoteliers preferred interactive and communicative learning activities such as group discussion, watching videos, and games which foster experience sharing and problem-solving.

Abstract

The quality of education in Vocational High Schools (SMK) is strongly influenced by teachers’ pedagogical competence, especially in the industry 4.0 era which requires continuous competence development through systematic human resource management. This study aims to analyze the management of pedagogical competence development of teachers at SMK Muhammadiyah Pondok Pesantren Imam Syuhodo, covering the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach and descriptive analytical method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving principals, management teams, and teachers. Data validity was tested through source and technique triangulation, and analysis used the Miles Huberman model. The results show that pedagogical competence development is managed through: (1) planning based on supervision, self-evaluation, and student feedback aligned with the school’s vision; (2) implementation via In House Training, workshops, MGMP, lesson study, mentoring, and industry internships supported by the principal’s role as supervisor and motivator; and (3) evaluation through classroom supervision, performance assessment, peer observation, and feedback from students, alumni, and industry. Success is supported by strong management, collaborative professional learning communities, and program relevance to business and industrial needs. The study concludes that systematic and continuous human resource management effectively enhances teachers’ pedagogical quality, integrates Islamic values in learning, and produces competent, Islamic-charactered graduates, serving as a model for other vocational schools.

Abstract

In the modern era of rapid scientific and technological progress, the development of student morals and character often lags behind, leading to behaviors inconsistent with religious principles such as disrespect, poor ethics, and a lack of empathy. This study posits that education is crucial in countering this trend by fostering religious character through the implementation of the Living Qur'an concept. Focusing on Budi Satrya Junior High School, this qualitative case study research investigates the process of building students' religious character. It describes the understanding of teachers and students regarding the Living Qur'an, identifies the religious principles being taught, and analyzes the teachers' role. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Living Qur'an is perceived not merely as a literacy program but as an effort to internalize Qur'anic values in daily life. Instilled practices include reading short surahs, memorizing Juz 'Amma, reciting prayers and shalawat, performing Dhuha and congregational Zuhr prayers, memorizing Asmaul Husna, and participating in the Iqra' extracurricular. Teachers play a critical role as role models, guides, and motivators. The program's implementation has effectively created positive changes, evidenced by increased discipline, improved morals, and a stronger religious culture. Thus, the Living Qur'an is concluded to be an effective strategy for forming students into faithful, pious, and noble individuals.

Abstract

The EFL students' difficulties in academic writing, including limitations in grammar, vocabulary, and idea development, necessitate innovative AI-based writing tools solutions. The usage of artificial intelligence (AI)-based writing tools to assist students in producing academic essays is examined in this study. Five English education majors who had completed essay writing classes and had prior experience with AI tools participated in semi-structured interviews as part of a phenomenological qualitative technique to gather data. Students utilize a variety of tools, including ChatGPT, Grammarly, and QuillBot, for brainstorming, grammatical correction, and idea organization, according to the study's findings. In general, they considered AI to be effective in speeding up the writing process, improving language accuracy, and reducing anxiety. However, they emphasized the importance of wise use to avoid sacrificing critical thinking independence. These findings confirm these tools serve as a support, not a substitute, in the development of students' academic writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Digital Leadership on Junior High School Teachers’ Performance in Pangkalpinang through Digital Literacy Competence as a mediating variable in the era of digital education transformation. The research is grounded in the urgent need for the education sector to adapt to technological advancements, where teachers are not only educators but also digital leaders capable of integrating technology into learning practices. This research employs a quantitative approach using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) method, involving 179 junior high school teachers as respondents. The research instrument was developed using a five-point Likert scale with indicators measuring digital leadership, digital literacy, and teacher performance. The findings reveal that Digital Leadership has a positive and significant effect on Teacher Performance, both directly and indirectly through Digital Literacy Competence as a partial mediator. This indicates that the higher a teacher’s digital leadership capability, the stronger their digital literacy competence, which subsequently enhances professional performance. The results emphasize the strategic role of digital literacy as a bridge that reinforces the effectiveness of digital leadership in educational settings. The study provides theoretical implications for the development of digital leadership models in education and practical implications for policymakers in designing teacher training programs based on digital competency.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the efficacy of a trilingual speech activity at MTs Al-Jihad Kerasan in developing students' soft skills, framing the activity as an integrated pedagogical model. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through direct observation, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation. The data were then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The analysis reveals that the trilingual speech activity serves as a multifaceted platform for holistic soft skill development. The structured process—comprising preparation, practice, evaluation, and intensive mentoring, and reinforced by a reward system—proves effective in cultivating a suite of competencies. These include communication skills, selfconfidence, presentation skills, creativity, critical thinking, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, the study identifies a unique symbiotic outcome: the simultaneous enhancement of linguistic proficiency in three languages and the strengthening of religious identity, multicultural awareness, and global perspectives. The trilingual speech model is a potent pedagogical strategy for soft skill integration in madrasah education. For future implementation, this study recommends the development of more innovative training methods and the provision of dedicated facilities, such as a speech practice room, to optimize outcomes. Subsequent research could quantitatively compare speech proficiency across the three languages to generalize the findings more broadly.

Abstract

Abstract

Police education in the modern era faces increasingly complex challenges, requiring instructors to have pedagogical and professional competencies that are in line with the values of Tribrata and Catur Prasetya. However, there is still a gap between the ideal of active learning and the practice in the field, which tends to be teacher-centered, where the level of activity and critical thinking skills of students (Serdik) at the Gorontalo Regional Police Academy (SPN Polda Gorontalo) is still low. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Problem-Based Learning in improving the activity and critical thinking skills of Serdik. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data obtained through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results of the study show that the application of PBL has begun to change the learning paradigm to be more reflective and participatory, although it still faces challenges in the form of instructor pedagogical readiness, training gaps, and infrastructure limitations. It is concluded that institutional support and continuous development of instructor competencies are the keys to the successful application of PBL in police education.
