Abstract

The development of digital technology has had a significant impact on the formation of students' character, particularly in moral and spiritual aspects. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the spiritual intelligence model in shaping the noble character of students at the Miftahussalam Private Islamic Senior High School (MAS) in Medan in the digital era. The approach used was a qualitative case study. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. The results showed that the application of spiritual intelligence values such as sincerity, patience, gratitude, and responsibility were systematically integrated through Islamic Religious Education learning, habituation of worship, and teacher role models. These values have been proven to be able to shape students' noble character as reflected in politeness, social empathy, and religious awareness. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening the spiritual dimension in Islamic education as an effective strategy to fortify students from the negative influences of the digital era. This study provides a conceptual contribution to the development of a character education model based on spiritual values in the madrasah environment.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of YouTube animated videos on students’ motivation and vocabulary development in learning English at SDN 26 Palu. In recent years, technology integration in language education has become crucial for enhancing young learners’ engagement and comprehension. However, few studies have examined the specific effects of YouTube animated videos within Indonesian public elementary school contexts. This study employed a mixed-methods design combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design measured vocabulary improvement, while interviews and classroom observations explored students’ motivation. The participants consisted of 15 sixth-grade students who took part in six meetings over two weeks. The findings revealed that the use of YouTube animated videos significantly enhanced students’ vocabulary mastery and motivation in learning English. Quantitative data showed a mean increase of 10.2 points from pre-test to post-test, while qualitative data indicated that students found the videos engaging and enjoyable. It is concluded that YouTube animated videos are effective and accessible media for improving English vocabulary and sustaining motivation among elementary learners.

Abstract

This research was carried out in Bo'e village, South Pamona District, Poso Regency by discussing 3 things, namely: First: The role of Torompio dance as a reinforcement of the cultural identity of the Poso community. Second: A form of adaptation of the Torompio dance that occurred in the period 1943-2000. Third, Torompio dance cultural heritage in Poso Regency.  This study aims to examine the Torompio Dance as a form of identity, a form of adaptation, and a means of cultural inheritance of the Poso people in the period 1943–2000. The Torompio Dance is one of the traditional dances of the Pamona Tribe in Central Sulawesi that has strong symbolic and social value, especially in the context of traditional events, harvest thanksgiving, and welcoming guests. This research uses historical methods with the stages of Heuristic, Source Criticism, Interpretation, and Historiography. Data was obtained through literature studies, observations, interviews, and documentation in Bo'e Village, South Pamona District, Poso Regency. The results of the study show that the Torompio Dance functions as a reinforcement of the cultural identity of the Poso people through the symbolization of movements that represent the meeting between men and women. This dance has also undergone adaptations in terms of music, fashion, and various forms of performance in response to globalization. The process of inheriting the Torompio Dance takes place through two main paths: socialization in the family and community environment, as well as enculturation through training in the studio and participation in traditional events representing the sustainability/survival of Torompio dance in the present and future as a reinforcement of Identity, Adaptation and Cultural Heritage.

Abstract

This study explores how members of the Indonesian Roblox community used language on Twitter to express solidarity and organize fundraising efforts following the tragic death of Affan Kurniawan during a demonstration, aiming to analyze the linguistic strategies this gaming community employed to build a collective identity and coordinate charitable actions across digital platforms. The study examined 23 Twitter comments from Indonesian Roblox community members, selected through purposive sampling based on their participation in fundraising discussions and memorial activities related to the Affan Kurniawan case. Using Critical Discourse Analysis with Van Dijk’s three-dimensional framework, the research analyzed macrostructure (thematic organization), superstructure (discourse schemas), and microstructure (semantic, syntactic, lexical, and stylistic elements) through a qualitative examination of linguistic patterns and discourse strategies. The analysis revealed five primary thematic domains: Memorial and Commemoration, Donation and Financial Support, Gaming Platform Integration, Social Justice and Political Critique, and Community Solidarity and Collective Identity, with Gaming Platform Integration emerging as a novel form of digital activism. The findings showed that community members strategically used code-switching between Indonesian and English, Islamic terminology, gaming-specific vocabulary, and varied syntactic structures to maintain cultural authenticity while facilitating cross-platform activism. The study concludes that gaming communities possess unique linguistic capabilities for social organizing that extend beyond traditional social media activism, contributing new insights to digital discourse analysis and revealing how marginalized communities can leverage unconventional digital resources to create effective solidarity networks and organize meaningful collective action in response to social injustices.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the formulation and consumer acceptance of a hair tonic made from guava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L.) as a natural alternative for reducing hair loss among university students. Hair loss is a common issue influenced by factors such as stress, nutritional imbalance, and prolonged use of chemical-based hair products, which may irritate the scalp and weaken hair roots. A preliminary survey conducted among 100 female students at Universitas Negeri Medan revealed that 87% experienced hair loss, and 68% preferred natural-based products, indicating the need for safer and more sustainable hair care solutions. Guava leaves contain bioactive compounds including flavonoids, tannins, and vitamins, which are known to strengthen hair roots and maintain scalp health. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method carried out at the Beauty Education Laboratory of Universitas Negeri Medan in August–September 2025. The guava leaf extract was obtained using the maceration method with 96% ethanol and formulated into a 2% hair tonic. A hedonic test was conducted with 72 panelists to assess six sensory indicators: color, aroma, texture, sensation during application, after-use aroma, and overall comfort. The findings showed that the formulation had a pH of 6.4, a viscosity of 45 cP, and caused no irritation, indicating good safety. All sensory indicators received average scores above 4.00, with acceptance levels exceeding 85%, categorized as highly liked. The product’s brownish color originated from natural tannins, its aroma from the fresh scent of guava leaf extract, and its light non-sticky texture from the combination of ethanol and propylene glycol. The cool sensation during application was attributed to ethanol, while flavonoids contributed antioxidant benefits that protect hair cells from damage. In conclusion, the guava leaf extract hair tonic demonstrates strong consumer acceptance, safe physicochemical characteristics, and promising potential as an innovative natural hair care product. These findings support further development and application of herbal-based cosmetic products aligned with sustainable beauty trends.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the diffusion of innovations involving the use of hau fo in tea bag production. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive approach. This research was conducted at the Dapur Kelor Office of RSS Oesapa, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. Six informants participated in this study. Data collection was conducted using three methods: observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the innovation carried out by Dapur Kelor aims to introduce the public to the fact that the moringa plant can be consumed in other processed forms, such as moringa tea bags, which have good nutrition for the body. This innovation was also carried out to improve the economy of moringa farmers and raise the economic standards of MSMEs. The marketing of the moringa tea bag innovation uses an application to sell processed products from Dapur Kelor in the Dapur Kelor Id store on Tokopedia, through Instagram, and directly to consumers. The decision-making process for the moringa tea bag innovation is considered successful because it has increased from year to year. Dapur Kelor itself employs SPGs (Sales Promotion Girls) and also collaborates with the Regional Government

Abstract

English proficiency is essential in vocational education as it equips students with the communication skills needed in industrial workplaces. However, English instruction in many vocational schools remains general and does not address the specific communication demands of different professions, creating a gap between classroom practices and workplace expectations. This study explores how English teachers in a vocational high school adapt their instructional practices and how institutional leadership supports these efforts. Using a qualitative case study, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three English teachers and one vice principal of curriculum at a Vocational High School in Indonesia. The findings reveal that teachers employ project-based learning, authentic materials, and role-play to contextualize English instruction, with partial support from curriculum coordination and leadership initiatives. The study concludes that stronger collaboration among teachers, leaders, and industry partners is needed to ensure that vocational English instruction effectively meets workplace communication needs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the TAR technique (Dive, Observe, Arrange) on the descriptive writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMK Willem Iskander. Although the curriculum for vocational high schools requires students at this level to be able to produce descriptive texts, their writing proficiency remains below the expected standard. One contributing factor is the use of conventional teaching strategies that do not stimulate students’ creativity or active involvement in the learning process. The TAR technique, grounded in contextual learning principles, encourages an active, meaningful, and engaging learning environment by positioning students as the main actors in the classroom. The study employed an experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research population consisted of 128 students across four classes, and a total of 32 students were selected as the sample. The findings revealed that prior to the implementation of the TAR technique, students’ descriptive writing ability was categorized as fair, with a mean score of 69.12. After the intervention, students’ performance improved to the good category with a mean score of 76.75. Statistical analysis produced a two-tailed significance value of 0.002, which is lower than the threshold of α = 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Thus, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, confirming that the TAR technique has a significant effect on students’ ability to write descriptive texts.
