Abstract

Distance education is playing an important role during this pandemic, and its systems are helping learning service providers manage, plan, deliver, and track teaching and learning. Due to its ubiquity (anywhere and anytime), low cost, ease of use and interactivity, much like a digital video conferencing platform. Distance learning is an opportunity to increase the efficiency of the teaching and learning process. School organizers are encouraged to be able to adapt to conditions where the development of distance learning is no longer a new phenomenon at this time. This study wants to examine the factors that drive high school students' motivation in conducting distance learning. This research was conducted in the city of Medan, North Sumatra. the sample in this study were 100 students who had done distance learning. the independent variables in this study are engagement, community building and personal learning environment. The results showed that all predictor variables in this study had a positive and significant effect on students' motivation in conducting distance learning. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the case of distance learning in high school students.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forcibly changed the mode of teaching and learning from face-to-face only to online in higher education in Indonesia, which is a new experience and practice for many teachers and students. At the end of 2021, four ministries namely the Minister of Education and Culture, Minister of Religion, Minister of Health, and Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia stated that learning in tertiary institutions starting from the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year will be held with limited face-to-face learning while still implementing the health protocol. Online learning that has been running from 2019 to 2021 has certainly changed students' habits in dealing with the learning process. The transition from online to face-to-face learning has the potential to cause problems, especially in the context of students in areas that are still constrained by signals. Online learning within a period of two years with inadequate internet conditions of course greatly affected the minimal involvement of students in learning activities which then triggered the next problem, namely decreased student motivation due to learning conditions that were not conducive during the COVID-19 pandemic. The joint decision of the four ministers to carry out limited face-to-face learning is a breath of fresh air in the world of education to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the university environment, especially on campuses in the regions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of student motivation and involvement in increasing student involvement so that they are active in face-to-face teaching and learning activities in Post-COVID 19, especially on regional campuses. The research method used is a survey method with a quantitative research approach. The survey method is considered appropriate because of the large number of research samples. The data used is primary data sourced from respondents' answers to the given questionnaire. The data analysis technique in this study used Partial Least Square (PLS). This technique was used because this study used a large sample size and the relationship between several variables. The results of this study are expected to be able to provide input to campuses in the regions in order to increase student involvement and activeness in learning and teaching activities after COVID 19.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has provided an illustration of the continuity of the world of education in the future through the help of technology. To create fun, active, creative and innovative learning, students' skills and expertise are needed in adapting to the use of technology, which inevitably has to be able to use online learning applications. The fact that online webinar applications existed before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred is one of the proofs that in the future, learning can be carried out even if not face-to-face. Video conferencing technology can be an opportunity for the future of education, for example educational institutions can conduct blended learning, or even full time online. To be able to achieve this, the learning participants must be familiar with the use of learning technology. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the factors that can support the use or adoption of learning technology. This study uses the Technology Acceptance Model as an antecedent which is a predictor of adoption of technology use. The results of the study show that all variables have a positive and significant influence on the adoption of the use of technology for madrasah aliyah students in the city of Medan.

Abstract

Avicenna is one of the figures who has made a major contribution to the body of knowledge in Islam, especially about Islamic education. This paper discusses the educational paradigm of Ibn Sina. In general, education is an appropriate and strategic means and effort to save human life from any matter. The synthesis of Ibn Sina's thought that "education is the art of making man moral", namely education makes life by the goals of society that are big and good. Philosophically, education is an investment in the future of human life that will change one's mindset, paradigm, character, and even fate and profession as a result of a series of processes of transfer of knowledge, transfer of value, and transfer of skills. Besides that, Ibn Sina's thoughts regarding education in a structured way from goals, curriculum, learning methods, and teachers or educators are factors rather than determinant elements in education. Therefore, Ibn Sina's thoughts can be used as an important reference in advancing the world of education. In another view, the results of Ibn Sina's thoughts are nothing but his life experience in discovering a very broad knowledge which was then poured into written media and became the primary source of knowledge in his time. In this regard, the study that has been presented is one of the assumptions of exploring these primary sources from the scientific treasures of Ibn Sina

Abstract

This paper presents the potholes in the teaching of Bemba language which is spoken in Zambia. Potholes in this context are hindrances. Bemba is classified as M42. As a regional official language, Bemba is taught in five provinces, namely, Central, Copperbelt, Luapula, Muchinga and Northern. The study used qualitative approach, interviews and document analysis methods. Cummins’ threshold hypothesis theory guided the research. The study shows that potholes exist in the teaching and learning of Bemba in secondary schools. At the center of common critical potholes is negative attitude by administrators, teachers, pupils as well as parents. There are inadequate teaching and learning materials for effective teaching of the subject. The second pothole is that there is limited time allocated to Bemba. The other pothole is language barrier. The study also shows that there is lack of motivation to teachers of Zambian languages in secondary schools. It is further envisaged that lack of qualified and experienced teachers to teach senior classes is yet another pothole in the teaching of Zambian languages. The above common potholes have contributed to poor academic performance among the Grade Nine and Twelve learners in Bemba in secondary schools in Zambia.
