Abstract

This article examines the conversion of Saint Dismas in Luke 23:39–43 to uncover its theological meaning and relevance for contemporary Christians. Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical literature review, it analyses the biblical text through a hermeneutical approach alongside recent theological scholarship. The findings show that Dismas’s conversion comprises three key elements: awareness of sin, confession of faith in Jesus, and acceptance of saving grace, which form a basic paradigm for understanding the Sacrament of Penance and Christian renewal of life. Jesus’ promise, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise,” affirms the universality and immediacy of God’s saving grace that transcends time and social status. These insights speak to Christians today, who face individualism, moral relativism, and a tendency to postpone conversion. Saint Dismas thus inspires Church and faithful to practice ongoing repentance, open themselves to God’s forgiveness, and foster a culture of mercy in personal, family, and social life. Abstract

Liturgy is the summit and source of life in the Catholic Church. In the celebration of the liturgy, the People of God participate in the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection. In the context of Indonesia, which consists of diverse ethnicities and cultures, inculturation becomes a highly promising means to make Christ more present in an Indonesian cultural form. This study aims to examine, from theological and pastoral perspectives, the practice of liturgical inculturation in the Catholic Church of East Barito in light of the Second Vatican Council document Sacrosanctum Concilium. The main focus of this research is to understand how Dayak culture is integrated into liturgical celebrations without changing the essence of the Catholic faith and how this process enriches the faith experience of the local community. The research method used is library research, involving an in-depth analysis of Church documents, academic literature, and relevant studies related to contextual liturgy and cultural inculturation. The findings indicate that Sacrosanctum Concilium provides a strong theological foundation for liturgical renewal and openness to local cultural values. Liturgical inculturation in East Barito is manifested through the use of local languages, traditional music, indigenous symbols, and local architecture in the celebration of the liturgy, which deepens the participation of the faithful and strengthens their identity as Dayak Catholics. However, the study also reveals challenges such as the risk of syncretism, superficial understanding of cultural symbols, and differing interpretations between the faithful and Church leaders. Therefore, continuous liturgical formation and intercultural dialogue are necessary so that inculturation does not remain merely aesthetic but truly becomes a means of evangelization and an encounter with Christ who is present within Dayak culture. This research is expected to serve as a reference for developing catechetical and pastoral inculturation in the Indonesian Catholic Church.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis krisis pengalaman iman yang dialami para mahasiswa calon katekis dalam proses formasi di STP-IPI Malang, khususnya berkaitan dengan keringnya dimensi mistagogis dalam pembinaan. Formasi katekis idealnya mengintegrasikan pembinaan intelektual, pastoral, dan spiritual sehingga menghasilkan pewarta iman yang tidak hanya kompeten secara akademis, tetapi juga memiliki pengalaman iman yang mendalam. Namun, banyak mahasiswa mengungkapkan bahwa proses formasi lebih menekankan aspek akademis dan teknis, sementara ruang untuk pendalaman batin, keheningan, retret, serta pendampingan spiritual belum terstruktur secara kuat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif-fenomenologis dengan wawancara mendalam, observasi kegiatan formasi, serta studi dokumentasi terhadap kurikulum STP-IPI Malang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya beberapa bentuk krisis pengalaman iman, seperti ketidakstabilan relasi pribadi dengan Allah, rutinitas formasi yang cenderung mekanis, rendahnya kualitas refleksi rohani, serta minimnya pendampingan mistagogis yang menyentuh pengalaman perjumpaan dengan Allah. Faktor dominan yang memengaruhi krisis ini mencakup beban akademik yang tinggi, kurangnya kegiatan spiritual terstruktur, dinamika pribadi mahasiswa, serta pengaruh budaya digital yang melemahkan kedalaman batin. Temuan penelitian ini menegaskan perlunya revitalisasi formasi mistagogis melalui pendampingan rohani yang konsisten, integrasi pengalaman iman ke dalam kurikulum, serta pembentukan habitus kontemplatif yang dapat menumbuhkan identitas katekis sebagai pewarta iman yang otentik. Implikasi penelitian ini berkontribusi pada penguatan model formasi katekis yang lebih holistik, transformatif, dan berorientasi pada pengalaman iman.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the concept of women in the Dawan Mollo culture and the practice of devotion to the Virgin Mary in the Catholic community in Kapan, North Mollo. The urgency of this research lies in the need to understand how local cultural values ​​influence and are influenced by religious beliefs, particularly in the context of women's roles. The primary objective of this study is to explore the intersection of women's values ​​in the Dawan Mollo culture with the figure of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic tradition. This study will analyze how the practice of devotion to the Virgin Mary reflects or reinterprets the concept of women in the local culture. The method used is a qualitative approach using observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. Research participants included traditional leaders, community leaders, religious leaders, and women in the Dawan Mollo Catholic community. The results show that the concept of women in Mollo culture influences the Kapan Catholic community's understanding of the role of Mary and their devotion to her.
