Abstract

The topic of this research is to analyze about archetype. Archetype is representation of metaphysical appeared from collective unconscious that can strengthen the personality of a person. This research’s objective is analyzing the archetype of main character Jim White that can show the personality of the person itself based on archetype perspective and alsofind ego that appear in the main character. The theory that the researcher used is archetype theory that develop by Jung. This research uses descriptive qualitative research that used script dialogue of the movie as the data to find the result. The researcher found 22 data related to ego (4 data) and seven archetype that appeared, those are persona (5 data), shadow (2 data) , anima (1 datum), hero (1 datum), great mother (2 data), wise old man ( 2 data) and self (5 data).

Abstract

Meskipun preposisi adalah salah satu jenis kata yang cukup sederhana, namun dalam terjemahan banyak terdapat sejumlah kesalahan terjemahan sehingga pergeseran makna terjadi. Kesalahan terjemahan tersebut dapat ditemukan saat praktik penerjemahan di ruang kelas dan di buku atau artikel yang sudah dicetak atau ditayangkan secara daring. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menilik masalah kesepadanan yang muncul dalam penerjemahan tiga preposisi ‘in’, ‘on’, dan ‘at’ pada novel populer berbahasa Inggris yang diterjemahkan ke bahasa Indonesia. Satu novel bahasa sumber dan satu novel berbahasa sasaran akan ditelaah dengan membandingkan kedua bahasa tersebut dengan fokus pada preposisi bahasa Inggris dan terjemahannya ke bahasa Indonesia. Perbandingan ini akan dianalisis menggunakan teori tata bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia, serta teori terjemahan tentang pergeseran makna. Hasil perbandingan ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat banyak pergeseran makna dalam terjemahan bahasa Indonesia, sehingga dapat ditarik simpulan bahwa para penerjemah atau siswa penerjemah hendaknya memeriksa kembali pilihan kata yang akan digunakan dalam terjemahan dengan tetap fokus pada penyelarasan makna dengan makna bahasa asli.

Abstract

The inability to hear normally makes it difficult for some deaf people to learn English. Meanwhile, English language skills are necessary in globalization. The purpose of this research was to analyze the effect of picture word inductive model (PWIM) toward disabilities of hearing (deaf). The method used was experimental method, which the independent variable was PWIM and the dependent variable was the result of English Basic Structure Learning. The sample was taken by doing direct observation. The research’s result shows that there are significant effect of PWIM application toward student’s English basic structure result especially on disabilities of hearing (deaf) communities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas pengaruh metode Total Physical Response (TPR) pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif terhadap analisis hasil publikasi penelitian ilmiah pada e-jurnal nasional. Pengaruh penelitian-penelitian yang menerapkan pembelajaran Total Physical Response (TPR) dianalisis dengan teknik meta-analisis. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa secara keseluruhan penelitian- penelitian yang dilakukan berpengaruh dan efektif terhadap hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris peserta didik dengan effect size 0.478 atau dalam kategori efek besar. Metode Total Physical Response (TPR) pun memberikan pengaruh dan efektif dilihat dari segi jenjang pendidikan, dan penerapan pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar, penguasaan kosakata, dan keterampilan menyimak. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah bahwa metode Total Physical Response (TPR) lebih efektif meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir pada pelajaran Bahasa Inggris dibandingkan dengan metode pembelajaran lain dari studi ini.

Abstract

Games has been extensively known to increase students' motivation and interest in learning English. However, its main findings and the trends in English teaching and learning for young learners are still unknown. To fill the gap, the aim of this study was to examine the application of games-based English learning for young learners. A literature analysis was conducted to several databases including Garuda, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Research Gate, Taylor and Francis, Eric, and Jour. System, and a total of 30 journals were analyzed through systematic review was used as the research methodology. The journals were analyzed utilizing a content analysis method and the data are presented in systematic diagrams and tables. The result of the study revealed that game-based English learning was very popular among Indonesian English young learners between the years 2011-2021. In 2020, the popularity of games based on English learning was very high. In addition, the most used research method in game-based English learning studies was quantitative method. Moreover, game-based English learning was most implemented at the elementary school levels, and the most learned language skill was to increase vocabulary. Further analysis of challenges, advantages and effectiveness related to the use of game-based English learning for young learners was also illustrated.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the quality level of the Facebook translation From English to Indonesian, what techniques are used and to determine the causes of the low quality of the automatic translation tool. This study compares the results of the Facebook translation with the results of the respondents presented with a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher conducted a test on 40 Facebook translation data involving 8 students of the English language education study program to assess whether the Facebook translation results were acceptable or still require re-translation from them. From 48 techniques used by Facebook, found 48 data (100%) categorized as not accurate, not acceptable and low readability translations consisting of 37 data using literal translation (77,1 %), borrowing namely 9 data (18,7 %), calque namely 1 data (2,1%), and reduction namely 1 data (2,1%). Meanwhile, the translation techniques used by the respondents were more diverse. From 54 techniques used by Respondents, found 54 data (100%) categorized as accurate, acceptable and high readability translations consisting of 21 data using literal translation (38,8 %), adaptation namely 14 data (25,9 %), transposition namely 9 data (16,6%), borrowing namely 4 data (7,4%), description namely 2 data (3,7%), amplification namely 1 data (1,9%), calque namely 1 data (1,9%), modulation namely 1 data (1,9%) and reduction namely 1 data (1,9%). Facebook's tendency to often use Literal translation is believed to be the cause of the low level of quality because this technique is used as an early stage of translation and is called the lowest technique.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out the types of error which made by the ninth graders in writing descriptive text using simple present tense at SMPIT Nurul Ihsan. The number of the students is 27 students. This research uses qualitative descriptive as the approach. The researcher directly did the survey and conducted a written test to the students write English descriptive text. The result of the study shows that there are 77 errors from all students’ compositions. The most error made is misformation with the percentage 49,35%. Followed misordering with the percentage 20,78%, then addition with the percentage 18,18%, and the least error made is omission with the percentage is 11,69%. Most students made wrong sentence in misformation category. The cause of that is the interference from mother language or L1. It makes them influenced the way they think about the language they are learning. When they compose a text in English, they follow the rule of L2. Consequently, they should be guided more so that they could understand about simple present tense.

Abstract

This article aims to identify the types and functions of illocutionary acts in the main character’s utterances in “I Am Not Ashamed” movie. The theory used in this article is theory of illocutionary acts proposed by Searle (1976) who classified the types of illocutionary acts into five types, there are representatives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declaratives. The method in this article using a qualitative descriptive method.  The result of this study there are 4 types of illocutionary acts such as representatives, descriptives, commissives, expressives and 36 of functions of illocutionary acts there are describing, stating, inform, assert, claim, believe, conclude, tell, agree, guess, assure, remind, urging, forbiding, ask, requesting, begging, questioning, inviting, suggesting, warning, promising, planning, offering, threatening, surprise, thank, apology, annoyed, curious, greet, disappointment, worried, like, satisfied, and praise in the main character’s utterances in “I Am Not Ashamed” movie.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan menguji kebenaran hipotesis penelitian yang di uji meliputi: Pengaruh Penggunaan Model Triple P Terhadap Kemampuan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris Siswa Kelas XI SMAN 11 Kab. Tangerang. Penelitian digunakan dengan menggunakan metode Pre-Test dan Post-Test. Populasi adalah siswa kelas XI SMAN 11 Kabupaten Tangerang dengan besar sampel 30 siswa, dengan teknik Random Sampling Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu tes lisan dengan instruksi membuat teks analytical exposition dengan menggunakan model Triple P dalam keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan perhitungan yang di peroleh,  sebesar 1,85 dari taraf signifikan  = 0,05, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa  < , 1,04 < 1,85 berarti homogen. Sedangkan, dari hasil pengujian hipotesis diketahui bahwa ternyata ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap pembelajaran menggunakan model Triple P terhadap keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa kelas XI SMAN 11 Kab. Tangerang dimana  = 5,48 >  = 1,699. Hal ini dikarenakan model Triple P mengarahkan siswa untuk lebih berani dan kreatif dalam kegiatan pembelajaran.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to reveal the meaning of Euro 2020 Tournament memes in social media using a study of Roland Barthes's semiology. The method of the research is qualitative using technical analysis of Roland Barthes semiology. The technique used to collect data is based on two resources. The primary data are collections of memes about Euro 2020 on social media Twitter and the second are references supporting the topic of the research. The result of the study is to show that the meme creators tried to publish the social condition that happened during Euro 2020 Tournament through memes. The conditions were presented in some types of memes, such as troll memes, and comedy memes
