Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the forms of commitment of librarians from the Jambi Province Library and Archives Service in realizing successful library service management. This research departs from the theory of organizational behavior initiated by Allen and Meyer which includes affective, normative and sustainable commitment. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with purposive sampling. This research involved 19 librarians and 30 informants to gather research information, while data was obtained through structured and unstructured interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show that the forms of librarian commitment are carried out through affective, normative and sustainable commitment. Affective commitment includes two forms, namely commitment to collaborate as a team with the achievement of implementing technical guidance activities 3 times and commitment to work discipline with work discipline achieved by 97%. Meanwhile, normative commitments include a commitment to completing librarian duties with each librarian achieving 10 documents per day, a commitment to evaluating the use of collections with the achievement of carrying out on-site reading surveys of 98% and a circulation of 100% per month, a commitment to user satisfaction in receiving services with an achievement in 2019 of 83, in 2020 it was 87 and in 2021 it was 92. Continuous commitment includes a commitment to developing institutions by achieving a pattern of collaboration between libraries and professional organizations, a commitment to developing librarian careers with each librarian being a resource person twice in library technical guidance activities, and a commitment to being involved in professional organizations with the achievements of every librarian active in the management of the Indonesian Librarian Association (IPI). Recommendations for normative aspects are a form of librarian commitment which includes a commitment to completing librarian tasks on time and a commitment to evaluating the use of collections, which are aspects that must be paid attention to by leaders and librarians.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper aims to describe the curriculum model applied in archival study programs in Indonesia, also analyze the influence of several disciplines in the core courses of the archival study programs. Analysis was carried out on documents containing courses that accessed through archival institutions and archival study program portals at each high-education institution. The data used are academic guidance documents and transcript of in-depth interviews with study program managers. Data were analyzed using a case study approach focused on archival study programs at Gadjah Mada University, Diponegoro University, and Universitas Terbuka. The results of this study are that the archival study program at Gadjah Mada University has a curriculum style dominated by the influence of two disciplines, history and administration science. The domination of both disciplines is none other than the study program founders who have a scientific background history, as well as the paradigm that used by the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia, as an archival supervisory institution at the national level. As for Diponegoro University and Universitas Terbuka, they tend to be dominated not only by administration and management science, but also information and library science, as well as communication science. This is inseparable from the educational background of the lecturers and the scientific style of the faculties of each study program.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing library management using Senayan Library Management (SLIMS) at the University of East Indonesia Library, with a focus on the application of information technology to improve service efficiency and library information access. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach, exploring experiences and phenomena related to service mechanisms and information processing in the library. Data was collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews with library heads, librarians and users. Data analysis involves collecting, reducing, assessing, and critically interpreting data to reach conclusions. The implementation of SLIMS in libraries has had a positive impact, increasing operational efficiency with easy access via online OPAC, bibliographic management and fast E-Library membership. Despite progress, integration of SLIMS with other technologies such as online access to e-journal and e-book collections is still in the preparation stage. Constraining factors involve data availability, metadata standards, security and access, changes in digital resources, identity management, resource availability, and alignment with user needs which are still being adapted.

Abstract

In today's digitally inundated era, accessing information is more accessible yet challenging due to the sheer volume available. This article underscores the pivotal role of VSM in managing vast data and enhancing retrieval accuracy by ranking documents based on query similarity. Term normalization, a part of VSM development, standardizes words for indexing, improving accuracy by addressing word variations. The study's methodology involved a systematic literature review, data collection via electronic databases, and thematic analysis. The research findings highlight vital aspects: the fundamentals of information retrieval systems, the working principle of VSM in document sorting, and the process of term normalization. Various methods within term normalization, such as tokenizing, filtering, stemming, and term weighting (e.g., TF, IDF, Cosine Similarity), are elucidated for refining document relevance. Discussions underscore the impact of term normalization on information retrieval, emphasizing heightened accuracy, efficiency, and reduced error rates. In the research paper, five studies that showcased successful applications of VSM across diverse domains were referenced. These domains included karaoke song searches, thesis examiner selection, pest identification in rice plants, hadith interpretation, and library material searches. Each study demonstrated the effectiveness and versatility of VSM in solving various problems in different fields. In conclusion, VSM emerges as a potent tool in managing information overload, particularly when coupled with normalization techniques. The studies reviewed illustrate VSM's efficacy in delivering precise results, affirming its status as a preferred method in information retrieval systems due to its accuracy and effectiveness.

Abstract

The internet is a source of health information for people in the digital age. By seeking health information through the internet, information seekers can seek the health information they need quickly and widely. In addition to the positive impact, the internet as a source of health information also has a negative impact on the seeker of information. The purpose of this article is to reveal the negative impact of utilizing the internet as a source of health information in the form of psychological impact. The method used is literature review. The findings of this article are that the internet has a psychological impact in the form of health anxiety. Information seekers who suffer from health anxiety tend to shut themselves off from people, lose concentration at work or study, withdraw from pleasant things, have poor relationships with health experts, drain money, and often feel anxiety symptoms. In response to this problem, information seekers need to equip themselves with digital literacy skills.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic which has lasted more than 3 years has positioned Covid-19 information on the media agenda. Apart from that, this pandemic has also changed the social order which has resulted in increased ownership, media access and communication effects. In the process, the communication effect is related to the level of media literacy regarding Covid-19 information which is on the media agenda. The formulation of the problem in this research is how high the level of media and information literacy for Covid-19 is in Lampung province. This research is examined through agenda setting theory, social category theory and stages of media literacy. The research method used is quantitative descriptive. The sampling technique used in this research is cluster sampling. Based on Yamane's formula, a sample of 100 people was determined. By using cluster sampling, the respondents for this study were represented by 20 respondents each from 5 districts in Lampung Province. The research results show that the level of media and information literacy for Covid-19 is 52.45% or is in the medium category. The results are understandable as the extensive reporting on COVID-19 over three years has enhanced public information literacy, encompassing various aspects from information needs to sharing capabilities. However, disparities in information reception exist due to factors like the shift from personal to media interactions because of mobility restrictions, the public's unpreparedness for the pandemic's impacts which reprioritized media access needs, and demographic factors like education and economic levels influencing information acceptance.

Abstract

Understanding how library users access and utilize information resources is crucial for librarians to enhance their library services. This research delves into the search strategies employed by library users to access information resources and the criteria they use in selecting such resources. The study involves interviews with 20 participants, all final-year students majoring in library science at Alauddin State Islamic University of Makassar. The research reveals that library users commonly employ mental and basic search strategies. This observation underscores the potential drawbacks of relying solely on mental and basic approaches, as it may result in suboptimal outcomes in terms of both quantity and quality of information resources. The study further identifies currency, the minimum acceptable standard, and availability or accessibility as the primary indicators guiding the selection of information resources. Consequently, librarians should ensure that the information resources they provide meet these criteria. The findings emphasize the necessity for librarians to incorporate complex and written search strategies, integral components of information literacy empowerment, into any information literacy program. Additionally, librarians should prioritize the regular updating and accessibility of information resources, recognizing that quality serves as the baseline standard for such resources. Librarians should prioritize updating and accessibility information sources, even if the quality of these sources is at a minimum level.
