Abstract

Critical thinking is a high-level thinking skill that is very important in learning mathematics. However, students' critical thinking skills at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah level remain relatively low due to a teacher-centered learning process. Therefore, a learning model that encourages active student involvement in the problem-solving process is needed. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the critical thinking abilities of grade VIII MTs students regarding the topic of probability. This study uses a quantitative, quasi-experimental research design with a pretest-posttest control group. The research sample comprised 67 students: 30 in the experimental class and 37 in the control class. The research instrument was an essay test used to measure students' critical thinking ability. Data analysis was conducted using normality and homogeneity tests, paired-samples t-tests, independent-samples t-tests, and N-Gain calculations to determine increases in students' abilities. The results showed that the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model had a significant effect on students' critical thinking ability (p=0.000 < 0.05). The average score of students in the experimental class increased from 40.67 in the pretest to 80.83 in the posttest, while the control class showed no significant improvement. The results of the N-Gain calculation showed that the increase in critical thinking skills in the experimental class was in the medium category, with a value of 69.2%, whereas the control class was in the low category, with a value of 0.5%. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model has proven effective at improving students' critical-thinking skills in probability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of the Education Quality Report (RMP) as a strategic information resource in school planning at UPTD SDN 2 Bati-Bati. Data-driven planning is a crucial approach in modern education management because it enables more objective, targeted, and measurable decision-making. This research employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive analysis model encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.The results indicate that the RMP is systematically utilized in the school planning process, from quality indicator analysis and problem and root cause identification to priority program formulation. RMP data is integrated into the school's main planning documents, namely the Education Unit Curriculum (KSP), School Work Plan (RKS), and School Work and Budget Plan (RKAS). This utilization results in programs that are more relevant to the school's actual needs, clear, measurable targets, and more effective, targeted budget management.Furthermore, the RMP serves as a tool for schools to improve educational quality continuously. However, this study found that increasing human resource capacity, particularly in data analysis, is still necessary to optimize the use of RMP. Therefore, RMP plays a strategic role in supporting data-driven planning and improving the quality of education in educational institutions.

Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology since 2021 has opened up new opportunities in education, particularly in the application of deep learning approaches as adaptive learning strategies. This approach enables a more personalized, interactive, and data-driven learning process, potentially enhancing higher-order thinking skills, particularly students' critical reasoning abilities. Critical reasoning is a crucial competency in 21st-century learning because it helps students analyze information, evaluate arguments, and make rational and reflective decisions. This literature review aims to identify, analyze, and evaluate research published from 2021 to 2025 that addresses the effectiveness of deep learning applications in learning-oriented approaches to improving critical thinking skills. The study used a systematic literature review approach with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework, which includes the stages of article identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. The literature search process was conducted using Publish or Perish through the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. Of the 120 articles found, 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected for further analysis. The analysis was conducted using a content analysis and bibliometric approach with the help of VOSviewer software to map keyword relationships and research trends. The review results indicate that the application of AI-based deep learning has the potential to improve students' critical reasoning by fostering learning that emphasizes personalization, in-depth concept exploration, and the strengthening of reflective and analytical thinking.

Abstract

Early coding education has been implemented in various elementary schools to improve digital literacy with relevant 21st-century skills. The main focus of competencies to be developed through coding education is computational thinking. This study aims to explore the impact of coding education on improving the computational thinking skills of elementary school students over the past five years. This study applied the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, searching for articles using Publish or Perish (PoP) software with Crossref as the data source. Bibliometric analysis was performed using VOSviewer to map publication trends, authors, citations, article sources, and research theme clusters. From a total of 1,000 identified articles, relevant publications were selected through a screening process based on the PRISMA protocol, resulting in 235 articles for further review and deeper analysis of coding education research trends related to the development of computational thinking in elementary school contexts. Coding education has been shown to positively develop computational thinking skills among elementary school students, especially fifth graders, although teaching methods and implementation context influence its effectiveness. This study provides an overview of research on coding and computational thinking education during 2020–2025 and identifies research gaps for further exploration in subsequent studies.

Abstract

Social skills are important competencies that shape the quality of interactions, adaptability, and the holistic development of elementary school students in social life. This study aims to map research development trends, identify dominant methodological approaches, and synthesize factors influencing the social skills of elementary school students in Indonesia in the 2020–2025 period. The study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach with systematic procedures to identify, select, and analyze articles. A total of 20 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained from three main databases: Google Scholar, ERIC, and Garuda Kemdikbud. Data were analyzed qualitatively using a synthesis matrix and thematic analysis to identify patterns in research findings. The study's results indicate an increase in research publications on the social skills of elementary school students during the 2020–2025 period. In addition, the most dominant research method used was a descriptive qualitative approach, followed by quantitative and mixed methods. Thematic analysis also revealed five main factors influencing students' social skills: the use of innovative learning models, the quality of classroom management, the integration of local wisdom values, the impact of digital technology, and the level of family involvement in children's education. These findings indicate that developing elementary school students' social skills requires a holistic, collaborative approach that integrates teachers, families, and the social environment to support students' optimal social development.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental aspect of learning English in elementary school because it lays the foundation for other language skills. However, conventional learning often makes students less active, leading to limited vocabulary mastery. Therefore, a more interactive and enjoyable learning strategy is needed. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Snowball Throwing cooperative learning model on third-grade students' English vocabulary mastery at SD N 1 Pandansari. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a Randomized Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design approach. The research subjects were 54 students, divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group, each consisting of 27 students. Data were collected through English vocabulary tests and psychomotor assessments. Data analysis was carried out using nonparametric statistics: the Mann-Whitney U Test to compare the two groups and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test to assess differences before and after treatment. The results showed a significant increase in students' vocabulary mastery in the experimental group (p = 0.000; <0.05). In the psychomotor aspect, a difference was also found between the pretest and posttest with a p-value of 0.016 (<0.05). This finding indicates that implementing the Snowball Throwing cooperative learning model effectively improves elementary school students' English vocabulary mastery. Therefore, this method can be an alternative learning strategy that can improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education has transformed the way students complete various academic assignments. Technologies such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and various other AI-based platforms make it easier for students to find information, develop ideas, and improve and organize their writing more clearly. However, the intensive use of AI has also raised concerns about the emergence of student dependence on technology and its implications for academic self-confidence. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to in-depth examine students' experiences utilizing AI technology to complete academic assignments. The study subjects consisted of 10 students in the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at Darul 'Ulum Islamic University in Lamongan. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The data obtained were then analyzed using the interactive analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The results show that students perceive AI as a tool that increases efficiency and facilitates the completion of academic assignments. However, intensive use also gives rise to indications of dependence and ambivalence in student self-confidence. AI can increase confidence in assignment results, but it can also raise doubts about academic abilities when students must work without technological assistance. The use of AI in academic assignments provides efficiency benefits, but also builds self-confidence that tends to be conditional and has the potential to affect students' independent thinking.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model on students' critical thinking skills in the work and energy material in class XA of SMA Negeri 1 Entikong. This study uses a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were 15 Class XA students who were purposively selected. The data collection instrument was an essay test consisting of six questions, arranged according to the FRISCO critical thinking indicators: Focus, Reason, Inference, Situation, Clarity, and Overview. Data analysis was carried out through the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Paired Sample t-Test test with the help of IBM SPSS software version 26. The results showed that the average pretest score of 54.86 increased to 80.46 in the posttest after the PBL learning model was applied. In addition, the scores on each FRISCO indicator were quite good: Focus 11.93; Reason 10.13; Inference 10.33; Situation 12.00; Clarity 12.33; and Overview 9.46. The results of the normality test indicate that the data are normally distributed, with pretest p-value of 0.488 and posttest p-value of 0.061 (both > 0.05). Meanwhile, the results of the Paired Sample t-Test show a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000, with a calculated t value of -9.381 and a t table of 2.144, indicating a significant difference in students' critical thinking abilities before and after treatment. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model has been proven effective at significantly improving students' critical thinking skills with respect to the material on work and energy.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the impact of integrating problem-based learning (PBL) with Google Earth on the critical thinking skills of elementary school students. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, employing a pretest-posttest experimental-control group design. Fifty elementary school students were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 26 students in the experimental group and 24 students in the control group. The research instruments included a critical thinking skills test based on Facione's dimensions (interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation), as well as an observation sheet to measure learning activities. The results of the ANCOVA analysis of the pretest-posttest scores showed a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills in the experimental group (p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 3.24), indicating a very strong effect.Furthermore, the MANOVA and ANOVA results also confirmed a significant increase in all five dimensions of critical thinking, with the largest effect being on the evaluation dimension. These findings suggest that integrating satellite imagery into PBL learning can provide a contextual and meaningful learning experience. Thus, the use of technology like Google Earth not only enhances critical thinking skills but also fosters deeper environmental awareness in students. It is hoped that this learning implementation can become an innovative alternative in environmental education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of case video media in Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) learning to increase reading motivation and foster tolerance in elementary school students. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted in the fourth grade of Muhammadiyah 02 Elementary School, Kauman, Surakarta, with one teacher and 28 students as subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Their validity was tested using triangulation. The results showed that the use of case video media increased students' reading motivation, as demonstrated by five indicators: perseverance, independence, positive interest, active involvement, and environmental support.Furthermore, this media was also effective in fostering tolerance in students, reflected in the ability to appreciate differences, respect others' beliefs, be open, love peace, and demonstrate social awareness. Case video media provided a contextual and engaging learning experience, making it easier for students to understand the material and internalize social values. Learning became more interactive and encouraged active student participation in both reading and social interactions. Thus, the implementation of case video media not only contributes to improved reading literacy but also plays a crucial role in the holistic development of students' tolerant character. This study recommends the use of innovative, context-based learning media to support literacy and character development in elementary schools.
