Abstract

Conceptual understanding is a fundamental skill that students must possess in mathematics learning. However, preliminary observations in the fifth-grade class at SDN Sukasirna indicated that students' understanding of 2D shapes—specifically regarding the area of these shapes—was low. This situation was evidenced by poor learning outcomes, with a class average score of 58 and no students meeting the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). This lack of conceptual understanding was attributed to teacher-centered instruction and a lack of variety in the learning media used. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the PUBMATIKA (Mathematics Pop-Up Book) medium and to analyze the improvement in fifth-grade students' understanding of 2D shape concepts. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted over two cycles. The subjects were 10 fifth-grade students at SDN Sukasirna. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed that the implementation of the PUBMATIKA medium improved students' understanding of 2D shape concepts. The percentage of students achieving mastery increased from 30% in the pre-cycle stage to 50% in Cycle I, and further rose to 80% in Cycle II. Thus, the PUBMATIKA medium is effective for enhancing elementary students' understanding of 2D shape concepts, particularly regarding the area of such shapes.

Abstract

The poetry collection Pagar Rumahku Berubah Warna by Ama Gaspar, particularly the subsection Jendela Olfaktorium, contains various symbols that represent critiques of human suffering. Although the book was nominated for the 2025 Literary Award of the Language Agency, it has not yet been studied through a semiotic approach. This study aims to describe the forms of symbols, interpret their meanings semiotically using the theories of Charles Sanders Peirce and Aminuddin, and examine how these symbols articulate social criticism. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data consisted of symbolic words, phrases, lines, and stanzas collected from 13 poems in the subsection through reading, note-taking, and documentation techniques. Data analysis was conducted through several stages, including data reduction, data presentation, semiotic interpretation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was examined through source triangulation, theoretical triangulation, and methodological triangulation through expert discussion. The findings revealed 73 symbolic data, consisting of 22 Blank Symbols, 24 Natural Symbols, and 27 Private Symbols, with Private Symbols being the most dominant category. Through this personal and distinctive sign system, Ama Gaspar goes beyond mere aesthetic expression and transforms her poems into a critical space for examining social realities through a multilayered system of signification. These findings enrich Peircean semiotic studies of contemporary Indonesian poetry and provide an initial reference for further literary research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the characteristics of children's drawings and identify the connection between the surrounding environment and the visual representations produced by students at SDN Ensa, Mori Atas District, Central Sulawesi. The research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study design. The research subjects—comprising students from grades IV, V, and VI, teachers, and parents—were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of the children's drawings. Data analysis involved data reduction, coding, visual analysis, theoretical interpretation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate a strong link between the children's drawings and their living environments. Among the 29 drawings analysed, the community environment was the most dominant theme (51.72%), followed by the family environment (20.69%), natural environment (17.24%), school environment (6.90%), and other themes (3.45%). Frequently depicted objects included houses, trees, rivers, mountains, roads, trucks, schools, and daily social activities. Colour usage was dominated by green, blue, brown, and yellow, reflecting actual environmental conditions. Furthermore, the children's visual capabilities demonstrated development corresponding to their grade levels, characterised by increased detail, composition, and spatial relationships within the drawings. Family, school, community, and natural environments were found to influence the characteristics of the drawings, with the community environment being the most dominant factor. These findings suggest that children's drawings reflect visual, social, emotional, and cultural experiences shaped by their interactions with their surroundings.

Abstract

Misconceptions regarding electricity and magnetism persist among fifth-grade students because concepts such as magnetic fields, electrical circuits, and electromagnets are abstract. This study aimed to develop Augmented Reality media based on Assemblr Edu, assess its feasibility, and obtain preliminary indications of its potential to reduce student misconceptions. The study employed a research and development method using the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used, without a control group. The subjects consisted of 10 students for the limited trial and 24 students for the extensive trial. Data were collected through observation, expert validation questionnaires, and a three-tier test, then analysed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and N-Gain analysis. Expert validation scores reached 83.3% for subject matter, 81.25% for language, and 91.25% for media, resulting in an average of 85.27%, which falls into the "highly feasible" category. In the extensive trial, the average score increased from 9.29 on the pretest to 13.38 on the posttest. The average individual N-Gain was 0.76, falling into the high category. This improvement indicates a trend toward better understanding within the group; however, a causal relationship cannot yet be confirmed due to the absence of a control group and the limited sample size. The Assemblr Edu-based Augmented Reality media is highly feasible and has the potential to help students understand electricity and magnetism concepts more concretely and interactively. The media's effectiveness requires further confirmation through research involving a control group, a larger sample size, reporting on shifts in misconception categories, and inferential analysis of paired data.

Abstract

21st-century education emphasizes student-centered learning that develops various competencies, including cultural literacy. The low level of cultural literacy among elementary school students indicates that existing models and supporting media have not effectively developed this competence. The RADEC learning model, supported by cultural heritage animation videos, is expected to serve as an alternative for creating learning experiences that are more active, contextual, and meaningful. This study aims to analyze the impact of the RADEC learning model—supported by cultural heritage animation videos—on elementary school students' cultural literacy skills. A quasi-experimental, non-equivalent group design was employed, and data were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. A cultural literacy skills questionnaire served as the research instrument. The results indicate: (1) a significant effect of the RADEC learning model (supported by cultural heritage animation videos) on students' cultural literacy skills, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05). The average N-Gain score for the experimental class—which received the RADEC learning model treatment supported by cultural heritage animation videos—was 56.4603 (or 56.5%). These results demonstrate that implementing the RADEC learning model supported by cultural heritage animation videos effectively enhances students' cultural literacy skills. Furthermore, the Independent-Samples T-Test results (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000 < 0.05) confirm the model's significant impact on cultural literacy skills. At the same time, the average N-Gain score of 56.4603 (56.5%) indicates the model's effectiveness in improving these skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies a teacher employs to enhance the early reading skills of first-grade students at SD Bala Keselamatan Palu and to identify the factors that support and hinder their implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted, involving a first-grade teacher and 28 students (14 boys and 14 girls) as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analysed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through technique and source triangulation. The results indicate that the teacher implemented differentiated instruction using a "flexible grouping" strategy as the primary method to improve students' early reading skills. This strategy began with identifying students' initial abilities, followed by grouping them based on proficiency levels and learning readiness; adjustments were made regarding materials, methods, media, and task difficulty for each group, complemented by individual guidance, supplementary instruction outside regular class hours, and continuous evaluation to update group assignments. The strategy's success was supported by teacher competence, the availability of learning media and facilities, student motivation, school support, and parental cooperation. Conversely, challenges included significant disparities in students' reading abilities, limited instructional time, a lack of family support at home, low self-confidence among some students, and the dynamics of adjusting group compositions. The findings demonstrate that differentiated instruction via flexible grouping effectively accommodates diverse student abilities and fosters greater improvement in early reading skills than uniform, whole-class instruction. These findings offer practical insights for teachers in designing adaptive and sustainable reading instruction.

Abstract

The state of science education in Grade V at SDN 105855 PTPN II Tanjung Morawa indicates that students' scientific literacy remains low, and there is limited use of instructional media that connect scientific concepts with everyday realities. Consequently, students have not fully grasped the interrelationships among science, the environment, technology, and social contexts within daily life. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach utilising the ADDIE model—comprising the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The trial involved 25 students from class VA. Findings reveal that the designed instructional material achieved excellent validity ratings. Expert assessments recorded validity scores of 92.42% from the subject matter expert, 84.33% from the media expert, and 80.00% from the language expert. Regarding practicality, feedback from both teachers and students fell into the "highly practical" category, with scores of 91.11% and 92%, respectively. Meanwhile, effectiveness testing demonstrated a significant increase in students' average scores, rising from 48.00 in the initial evaluation to 88.00 in the final evaluation. The N-Gain calculation yielded a mean score of 0.7806, falling within the high-level category. Furthermore, a one-sample t-test analysis produced a significance value of 0.000 (less than 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Ultimately, the SETS-based science instructional material covering the digestive system proved to be valid, practical, and effective in enhancing the scientific literacy skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

Diagnostic assessment plays a crucial role in identifying school readiness in early childhood, serving as a foundation for designing instruction that aligns with developmental needs. However, assessment practices in many early childhood education (ECE) institutions remain dominated by conventional methods that fail to yield comprehensive developmental information or adapt to technological advancements. This study aims to analyse the use of Educaplay as a digital diagnostic assessment tool to identify school readiness among 4–5-year-old children at RA Baitussalam Toyamas (Wringinrejo, Gambiran, Banyuwangi) during the 2025/2026 academic year. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Research informants—comprising the school principal, teachers, and parents—were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analysed using the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which encompasses data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results indicate that Educaplay transforms assessment practices from mere developmental measurement activities into a more systematic, interactive process of mapping school readiness that is oriented toward children's developmental needs. The findings also construct a "Digital Assessment for Learning" perspective, wherein digital diagnostic assessment is utilised to generate authentic developmental evidence as a basis for pedagogical decision-making. The implementation of digital assessment is influenced by teachers' pedagogical competence, children's developmental characteristics, institutional support, and collaboration with parents. This study contributes conceptually to the development of digital diagnostic assessment in early childhood education. It serves as a reference for ECE institutions seeking to develop assessment practices that are more adaptive, authentic, and centred on child development.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyse the implementation of strategic management at Immanuel High School, Batu City, based on the Wheelen and Hunger model, which includes environmental observation, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and evaluation and control. This study aims to describe and analyse the implementation of strategic management at Immanuel High School, Batu City, based on the Wheelen and Hunger model, which includes environmental observation, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and evaluation and control. This study used a qualitative approach with a single case study design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies of purposively selected informants. Data were then analysed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña with triangulation of sources and techniques to ensure data credibility. The study shows that service differentiation through the boarding system, character development, and multicultural management are the school's main strengths in implementing strategic management. This strategy is supported by the 3 Goods vision, which is internalised in all school programs and reinforced through a tiered evaluation mechanism. However, weaknesses remain, such as the lack of a standardised alum tracer study system and formal data-based environmental mapping. Strategic management has been integrated and effective in supporting school sustainability and the management of diverse students. This study confirms that integrating institutional values with strategic management practices is a crucial factor in building a school's competitive advantage.

Abstract

Student acceptance of Learning Management Systems (LMS) is a crucial factor in supporting the effectiveness of online learning in higher education. Besmart is a Moodle-based LMS used at Yogyakarta State University (UNY), enabling students to access materials, complete assignments, and engage in discussions independently. However, research on LMS technology acceptance in Indonesia has largely focused on variables such as intention or system usage behaviour, often failing to address self-directed learning as a more substantive outcome—particularly in the context of Besmart UNY. This study employed a quantitative approach using an explanatory survey method. Data were collected via online questionnaires from 180 active Besmart students, selected through purposive sampling. The data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4 software. The results indicate that all construct indicators met the required validity and reliability criteria. Perceived ease of use (B = 0.387; t = 4.965; p < 0.05) and perceived usefulness (B = 0.472; t = 6.354; p < 0.05) both exerted a positive and significant influence on self-directed learning, with these two constructs explaining 67.6% of the variance (R² = 0.676). Acceptance of Besmart—specifically perceived usefulness—contributed significantly to student self-directed learning; consequently, future LMS development should prioritise enhancing substantive benefits that support users' independent learning processes.
