Abstract

Abstract

This research method uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest and posttest design. The sample used was 40 students of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences (FIKK) of Makassar State University (UNM) who participated in this study. The research procedure began with the implementation of a pretest, namely measuring the 100-meter running speed of each participant using a stopwatch as the main measurement instrument. The pretest aims to determine the initial running speed ability before being given the Hollow Sprint training treatment. After that, all participants participated in the Hollow Sprint training program carried out for a certain period, for example 12 meetings or according to the research needs. Based on the results of the paired sample t-test on the data on the 100-meter running speed ability of students of the PJKR FIKK UNM Study Program, it was obtained that the average value (mean) of the pre-test result was 15.42 seconds, while the average post-test result was 13.47 seconds. There was an average difference (mean difference) of 1.96 seconds, which indicates an increase in running speed ability after students participated in the training program or treatment given. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significant increase in the 100-meter sprint speed of students at the Physical Education and Sports Faculty (FIKK) of Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) after being given the Hollow Sprint training program.

Abstract

Volleyball is a team sport that requires optimal physical and mental coordination. The mental aspect in sports is often overlooked even though it has an important role in determining the performance of athletes. The SMA 13 Makassar volleyball team experienced a decline in performance in regional competitions which was allegedly caused by psychological factors such as anxiety, lack of concentration, and low confidence. This study aims to analyze the influence of mental training on the performance of the volleyball team at SMA 13 Makassar and identify the mental aspects that have the most influence on improving team performance. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design approach. The subjects of the study were 24 students who were members of the volleyball team of SMA 13 Makassar which were divided into an experimental group (n=12) and a control group (n=12). The experimental group received 8 weeks of mental training with a frequency of 3 times per week, while the control group received only physical training and conventional techniques. The instruments used included volleyball technique performance tests, sports anxiety scale (SAS-2), athlete confidence scale (TSCI), and concentration test (d2 test). Data analysis used paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test with significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the performance of the volleyball team between the experimental group and the control group after the provision of mental training (p < 0.05). The experimental group showed significant improvements in serving accuracy (from 68.5% to 84.2%), passing accuracy (from 72.3% to 88.7%), spike effectiveness (from 65.8% to 82.4%), and blocking quality (from 58.9% to 76.3%). The psychological aspect also experienced significant improvement with a decrease in anxiety levels (from 3.4 to 2.1), an increase in self-confidence (from 3.2 to 4.3), and an increase in concentration (from 78.5 to 92.1). Mental training has proven to be effective in improving the performance of the volleyball team at SMA 13 Makassar. Structured mental training programs can be an alternative training method to optimize the potential of young athletes in the sport of volleyball.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the application of a biomechanical approach on improving basic long jump technical skills in elementary school students. The biomechanical approach is used to help students understand the principles of efficient body movement based on the laws of force, speed, and angle of push. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design implemented at SD Inpres Tamannyeleng, Gowa Regency. The research sample consisted of 30 fifth-grade students (15 boys and 15 girls) who participated in six meetings, including pretest, learning implementation, and posttest. The research instruments included long jump skill observation sheets, motion video recordings, and field notes that were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed a significant increase in basic long jump technical skills after the application of the biomechanical approach. The average student score increased from 64.23 in the pretest to 78.90 in the posttest, with a difference of 14.67 points or 22.8%. The Paired Sample t-Test produced a t value = 9.214 and Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which shows that the application of the biomechanical approach has a real effect on improving students' skills. Qualitatively, there was improvement in coordination, balance, and movement efficiency in each phase of the long jump—from the run-up to the landing. It can be concluded that the biomechanical approach is effective in physical education learning in elementary schools because it not only improves students' technical abilities but also fosters a scientific understanding of body movement and the simple application of biomechanical principles.
