Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bali’s tourism sector, analyzing the intersection of economic growth, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation. Through a mixed-methods approach combining surveys (300 respondents), stakeholder interviews (20 participants), and case studies (Nusa Penida and Ubud), the research identifies critical gaps in SDG awareness and sustainable practices. Findings reveal that while 68% of hotel managers demonstrate high SDG awareness, only 22% of respondents show strong knowledge of marine conservation (SDG 14). Sustainable practices exhibit partial adoption, with energy efficiency (42%) outperforming water conservation (29%) due to clearer economic incentives. Qualitative data highlights systemic challenges, including weak policy enforcement, cultural commodification, and power imbalances in multi-stakeholder collaboration. The study proposes a four-tier SDG integration framework, emphasizing: (1) strengthened government enforcement, (2) industry-wide certification standards, (3) community-led cultural guardianship, and (4) tourist education programs. Comparative analysis with Phuket and Boracay underscores Bali’s need for greater grassroots engagement, as only 28% of local businesses currently participate in sustainability initiatives—below Boracay’s 37%. Post-pandemic recovery trends further reveal a tension between mass tourism resurgence and opportunities for regenerative tourism models. These findings contribute to sustainable tourism literature by mapping Bali’s unique challenges onto global SDG targets. The research advocates for policy reforms that prioritize monitoring systems, economic incentives for green businesses, and cultural safeguarding measures. By addressing these gaps, Bali can transition from a mass tourism paradigm to a balanced model that aligns economic resilience with ecological and socio-cultural sustainability, offering lessons for island destinations globally.

Abstract

Indonesia, as the world’s second-largest coconut producer, holds significant potential for exporting desiccated coconut to international markets, particularly Poland. However, Indonesia’s market share in Poland remains behind the Philippines, which dominates desiccated coconut imports. The demand for this product in Poland continues to rise, driven by trends in healthy, plant-based food consumption and traditional food processing. This study aims to analyze the potential for increasing Indonesian desiccated coconut exports to Poland and to formulate appropriate strategies to optimize this market during 2022-2024. The research employs qualitative and quantitative methods, analyzing export data within the theoretical frameworks of John Stuart Mill’s international trade theory and Porter’s Diamond Model of competitive advantage. Findings indicate significant opportunities for export growth through improvements in product quality, diversification of value-added products, and strengthening distribution networks in Poland. Indonesia needs to overcome limitations in modern processing and adopt quality standards aligned with the European Union market. In conclusion, the development of innovative products and adaptive marketing strategies are crucial to enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian desiccated coconut exports to Poland, supporting sustainable national economic growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of sustainable purchasing at Hotel X based on the indicators listed in the Marriott International Responsible Sourcing Guide. Along with increasing awareness of sustainability issues and pressure from various stakeholders, the hotel industry is required to adopt environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices, including in the procurement process of goods and services. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and internal hotel documentation. The results show that the purchasing department of Hotel X has implemented four of the six main product categories focused on in the Marriott guide, namely animal protein (crate-free pork), bottled water (using recycled glass bottles and gallons), coffee (from suppliers with sustainable agriculture standards), and seafood (from certified suppliers). The other three categories, namely cocoa, sugar, and cage-free chicken eggs, have not been fully implemented due to limited supplies from local suppliers who have not met Marriott International's sustainability standards. These findings indicate that the hotel has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability by considering environmental, social, and ethical aspects in the purchasing process. This implementation also reflects the principles of stakeholder theory, where the hotel strives to meet the expectations of stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, communities, and parent companies, and contributes to the achievement of sustainable development goals promoted by Marriott International globally.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the behavior of intra-parliamentary political parties in the process of nominating parliamentary candidates in Timor Leste in the 2018-2023 parliamentary elections. The research method is qualitative with informants from CNE circles, political party members, parliamentary candidates, academics, the press, independent institutions, and the community. The results of the study show competition in political parties so that they do not focus on the interests of the community. The regulatory regulations for submitting female parliamentary candidates are placed in the numbered space between 2-3, one must be a woman and so on, each space is up to 95 prospective parliamentary candidates. However, women are placed in the last numbered space and so on. It is necessary to make changes according to the times because the system is not a dogma in order to continue to exist. However, it remains on the legal path, it must be honest that revisions need to be made. Recruitment of parliamentary candidates focuses on three main criteria: broad insight, mass influence, and economic independence. Political elites should ensure proportional representation from youth and women’s organizations, tribes, districts, intellectuals, and high-electability independents. However, accommodating multiple party interests increases political costs and wastes state funds, leading to voter apathy. Female candidates also face discrimination, often placed last on candidate lists.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the community's understanding of the concept of donut economy and explore its potential application in the social and economic context in Bali Province. With a focus on equitable and sustainable development, this research is expected to provide an empirical basis in formulating local economic transition strategies that are in accordance with the principles of the donut economy. The method used in this research is a descriptive-analytical approach with primary data collection through a survey using questionnaires to communities and stakeholders in Bali. The data will be strengthened by literature review and content analysis of scientific journals, policy reports, and case studies from other relevant regions. The results show that the interaction relationship of understanding the concept of doughnut economy with the support of Balinese traditional culture has a positive effect on the potential application of doughnut economy while the variables of perceived social needs and ecological awareness have not shown a significant effect, either directly or through moderation of Balinese traditional cultural support. This finding indicates that the potential of doughnut economy implementation in Bali is strongly influenced by the extent to which its principles can be integrated into local cultural values, norms and practices.

Abstract

The rapid development of the modern lifestyle opens great opportunities in the culinary sector, which continues to grow, including in South Tangerang City. This study analyzes the business strategy of the “Coklat Mimpi" business unit, a culinary venture selling bread and chocolate drinks with a simple concept but targeting a broad market. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study conducted over 94 working days, including observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The analysis is carried out using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The results indicate that "Coklat Mimpi" excels in attracting working customers, but it also faces weaknesses, including unclear store theme design and the lack of a direct customer feedback channel. The business opportunities are quite significant due to a high number of visitors and close customer relationships, while the main threat comes from competition in the surrounding food business. In conclusion, "Coklat Mimpi” needs to optimize its strengths and opportunities and formulate strategies to overcome weaknesses and threats to sustain and develop the business sustainably.
