Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the concept and implementation of character education in early childhood, particularly in preschool education settings. The research approach used is qualitative, with a case study method applied to several early childhood education institutions in Indonesia. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of learning activities. The research findings indicate that the success of character education in early childhood is influenced by various factors, including the role of educators, the learning methods applied, and support from the family and school environment. Educators play a central role in introducing character values through positive behavior modeling and approaches tailored to the child’s developmental stage. Play-based and storytelling learning methods have been found to be effective in helping children understand and internalize these values. This journal also identifies challenges in the implementation of character education, including educators’ lack of understanding of basic principles of character education and limited time to fully implement a character curriculum. This highlights the need for better training programs and support for educators to help them understand and develop effective character education strategies. In conclusion, character education in early childhood requires a collaborative approach between schools and families to ensure children receive consistent and sustainable character learning. Thus, this study recommends strengthening partnerships between schools and families, as well as adjusting the curriculum to be more flexible so that character values can be taught optimally.

Abstract

One important component of learning is the assessment or evaluation process. Most evaluations will use items as tests, but not necessarily all items used are of high quality due to unvalidated difficulty levels. This article aims to provide an understanding of item difficulty and how to measure it as well as the importance of analysing item difficulty in language learning tests. The method used in this article is a literature review that examines the application of analysing the difficulty level of test items in language learning and its importance for learning. The results obtained are that it is important to analyse the level of difficulty of the questions to determine the quality of the test so that it can be feedback for learning; increase the validity and reliability of the test, adjust students' abilities, and improve the quality of the test for the next time. The formula used in item analysis includes a difficulty index denoted by the letter P (proportion), with an interval of 0.30-0.70 said to be a good question (enough).

Abstract

This study aims to improve the practical performance of Maritime Vocational High School students through the Explicit Instruction model, focusing on enhancing competencies in safety and basic navigation of shipping. The study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach with the Kemmis and Taggart model, consisting of three cycles including planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 25 students from class XI of the Nautical Ship Commerce major at SMK Poetra Samudra. Data were collected through observation sheets and practical assessments covering aspects of work preparation, work knowledge, and work skills, verified by maritime industry instructors. The results of the cycle evaluations showed a model effectiveness level of 88% (very good category), with significant improvements in competency scores from cycle I to cycle III, particularly in work skills (56.3% increase). Limited trials indicated that the implementation of the Explicit Instruction model had a positive impact on improving students' practical competencies, especially in procedural skills and safety procedures, with an average score increase to 3.6 (very good category). Teacher and student responses to the model were also in the very positive category, as reflected in increased engagement and discipline during practice sessions. Therefore, this learning model is deemed effective, systematic, and contextual for implementation in maritime vocational education to enhance technical competencies and professional work readiness.
