Abstract

The development of students' character is an important aspect in Islamic boarding school education which aims to form independent, disciplined, and noble individuals. Manbaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School applies various strategies in building students' character through habituation programs, role models, and extracurricular activities. This study aims to analyze the management of the student character development program at Manbaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, including strategies, challenges, and their impact on students' independence. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the boarding school caretaker, ustadz, and students, direct observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the management of the character development program at Manbaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School is carried out systematically through careful planning. The role model method and mentoring system are the main strategies in forming students' character. However, there are obstacles such as limited resources, differences in students' backgrounds, and a less than optimal evaluation system. The implications of this study indicate that the success of the character development program for students depends on the synergy between Islamic boarding school managers, educators, and the social environment of this Islamic boarding school. The contribution of this research is to provide an empirical description and theoretical basis for designing an integrative and adaptive Islamic boarding school character development program to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in fostering students’ learning independence and mathematical creative thinking skills. The research was conducted with seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Mesuji, Lampung, during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The population comprised 216 students across seven classes, from which two classes were selected using cluster random sampling. A pretest–posttest control group design was employed. Data were collected through essay tests on the topic of social arithmetic and questionnaires assessing students’ learning independence. The data were analyzed using t-tests, N-Gain analysis, and one-proportion z-tests. The results indicate that the PBL model was more effective than conventional learning in enhancing both mathematical creative thinking and learning independence. The experimental group achieved a significantly higher average N-Gain score than the control group. Furthermore, over 60% of students in the experimental class attained a “good” category in learning independence after the intervention. Improvements in creative thinking indicators—fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration—were also more pronounced in the PBL group. These findings demonstrate that Problem-Based Learning not only improves students’ cognitive abilities but also cultivates essential learning dispositions such as independence and creativity. This research provides empirical support for the integration of student-centered learning models in mathematics education to promote higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Learning about local culture plays a significant role in developing critical thinking skills among elementary school students in South Lampung. By integrating local wisdom into daily learning activities, students are exposed to the values embedded in local customs and traditional arts, which encourage them to analyze, evaluate, and reflect on information in a logical and in-depth manner. This study employed a quasi-experimental design to test the causal relationship between local culture-based learning and the enhancement of students’ critical thinking abilities. Based on the analysis results, the calculated t-value (2.654) exceeded the t-table value (0.67986) at a 5% significance level. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted, indicating that learning about local culture has a positive and significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills. This study contributes to educational practice by demonstrating that integrating local cultural content into the elementary school curriculum can effectively foster critical thinking development. It provides empirical evidence supporting the inclusion of culturally relevant learning materials to promote cognitive and cultural growth simultaneously

Abstract

This research aims to develop the skills of PGSD students as prospective teachers in designing teaching materials, namely children's songs as learning media in developing the character of elementary school students. This research is project-based learning (PBL) with a development model Research and Development (R&D) by Borg and Gall. This project-based learning process was carried out by 25 students as research subjects under the guidance and direction of a lecturer who was a researcher himself and carried out in several stages, namely (1) problem identification, (2) information collection, (3) product design, (4) design validation, (5) design improvements, (6) product trials, (7) operational product revisions, (8) usage trials, (9) final stage product revisions, and (10) mass production.  The results of this research were that the students were able to create children's songs well, where out of a total of 25 students, they succeeded in creating 25 children's songs with different titles (100%). The children's songs were also assessed based on aspects of suitability to the song theme, song lyrics, tune and suitability to the theme of character education. The results showed that the students were able to create children's songs that contained character education very well (94.4%). So it can be concluded that the PBL process implemented in this research is considered effective in developing teaching materials, especially the aim of this research, namely creating children's songs that contain character education.

Abstract

The determination of the beginning of the iddah period for widows who wish to remarry is a crucial process governed by Islamic law. However, its implementation often encounters various challenges involving social dynamics, economic conditions, and public understanding of Islamic law. This study aims to explore how the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of Nogosari Subdistrict, Boyolali Regency, determines the beginning of the iddah period and manages the differences in views and challenges that arise during the process. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with an approach of observation and in-depth interviews with key informants, including the head of the KUA, the marriage registrar, religious counselors, and administrative staff. The results show that KUA Nogosari strives to balance the requirements of Islamic law with the socio-economic realities of the community. The KUA faces challenges such as administrative limitations, differing community views, and the economic pressures experienced by widows. Nevertheless, the KUA has managed these challenges through enhanced education, administrative efficiency, and collaboration with various parties. Abstract

This study aims to improve students' motivation, activities, and learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) by using the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) cooperative learning model, assisted by Canva and Quizizz media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted over three cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results indicate that implementing the STAD model, with Canva and Quizizz as supporting media, can enhance students' learning motivation, as reflected in increased activities during the learning process. Moreover, students' learning outcomes also showed significant improvement, as evidenced by the rise in average evaluation test scores in each cycle. In first cycle, the learning mastery rate was 63.16%, in second cycle it increased to 73.68%, and in third cycle it further increased to 89.47%. The use of Canva and Quizizz as tools in the STAD cooperative learning model proved effective in creating a fun and interactive learning environment, fostering students' enthusiasm and interest in learning.
