Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to explore the history of the arrival of the Chinese community in Saparua and identify the dynamics of the Chinese community's life in terms of social, economic, political, cultural and governance aspects in Saparua. Thus, it is hoped that this research can enrich the historiography of the relatively few Saparua Chinese in Maluku. The research method used is the historical method which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography using theories and other relevant social science concepts. From this research, it is known that the Chinese community in Saparua has existed for a long time. This is evidenced by the existence of relics in the form of old Chinese graves, Chinese churches, and Chinese schools in Saparua. The social life of the Chinese community and the local community there still has a very good relationship. This can be seen by the use of the original clan in Saparua and the use of the Malay language of Saparua by the Chinese community. In addition, the Chinese people live their lives side by side with one another regardless of ethnicity and skin color. The Chinese community does not play an important role in politics or their government is more inclined to the economic field. This can be seen from their livelihood as a wholesaler of grocery, building materials and basic necessities. They do this economic activity every day so that the ethnic Chinese in Saparua are referred to by the local community as "Saparua Chinese". Thus the Chinese people in Saparua have considered themselves as Saparua people.

The low level of fish consumption and purchasing power in society can be caused by a lack of knowledge and insight regarding the benefits of consuming fish. Apart from that, there is still limited knowledge regarding the diversification of processed fish products because the majority of people's diet consists of animal protein from chicken and beef. Therefore, Health Education and Socialization of GEMOI (Love to Eat Fish) is needed. This socialization aims to increase elementary school age children's knowledge regarding fish and its preparations so that they can increase interest in consuming fish and help improve children's nutrition through fish consumption. exploring basic knowledge, the presenter explained the definition of fish, the benefits and nutritional content found in fish, types of fish and processed fish products with the help of presentation material in the form of posters. After participating in this socialization, the children began to look enthusiastic about consuming fish and began to know several types of fish and their preparations. After the GEMOI (fond of eating fish) socialization, there was an increase in the knowledge of the children at Barru Sumpang Binangae Public Elementary School and ultimately they were more motivated to consume more fish.

Abstract

The Wela-wela tradition is a deeply rooted cultural practice that plays a significant role in the wedding ceremonies of certain Indonesian communities. This tradition is rich in symbolism and is carried out in three distinct phases, each holding its own cultural significance. The process begins with a deliberation or consultation among the families involved, highlighting the communal aspect of the tradition. The first phase of the Wela-wela occurs when the groom arrives at the bride's house, specifically in front of the sabuah (a ceremonial tent), marking the initial formal meeting between the two families. This moment is crucial as it symbolizes the groom's respectful approach and request for the bride's hand in marriage. The second phase takes place at the front door of the bride's house, where the groom is met with another Wela-wela, representing a more intimate acceptance by the bride's family. This step underscores the importance of familial consent and the gradual transition of the bride from her family to the groom. The final Wela-wela occurs when the groom comes to escort the bride to their new home, symbolizing the completion of the union. This tradition not only serves to honor the bride and her family but also adds a festive and respectful atmosphere to the wedding ceremony. Through these rituals, the Wela-wela tradition reinforces the values of respect, family unity, and cultural heritage, making it a vital component of the wedding process.

Abstract

The history of the arrival of Chinese ethnic groups in Indonesia is generally uncertain, and this is also true for their arrival on Geser Island. Even if there are sources that document the arrival of the Chinese, they are mostly based on local folklore and some evidence left by Chinese descendants who still live there today, some of whom have intermarried with the indigenous people of Geser. The issues examined in this study are as follows: 1) What was the process of the Chinese community's arrival on Geser Island? 2) How have the dynamics between the Chinese community and the local population on Geser Island evolved? To address these questions, the research method used is historical research, which consists of four stages: Heuristics, Verification, Interpretation, and Historiography, while also employing relevant theories and concepts from social sciences. The objectives of this study are to explain the process of the Chinese community's arrival on Geser Island and their interactions with the local community. It can be observed from the involvement of the Chinese community in the practice of local customs and culture that they have integrated into their lives. To this day, the Chinese community plays a significant role in various sectors of life on Geser Island, both in the economic and political realms. It is evident from the term "Cina Geser" used to refer to some Chinese-descended politicians, including members of the East Seram Regency Regional House of Representatives and even the current Acting Secretary of the Maluku Provincial Government, who is of Chinese descent.
