Abstract

This community service project aims to improve the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) at the small-scale bag manufacturing business, Rangganesvi, in Malang, Indonesia. The purpose was to identify occupational hazards and implement appropriate interventions based on Indonesian OHS laws and regulations. Field observations and interviews revealed various risks, including mechanical, physical, electrical, chemical, ergonomic, and psychosocial hazards, affecting workers' health and safety. Specific issues included poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, lack of personal protective equipment (PPE), and poor ergonomic practices. Interventions included safety training, hazard identification, PPE provision, and improvement of work environment design. The results indicated that awareness of OHS principles was initially low, but the introduction of ENASE (Effective, Comfortable, Safe, Healthy, Efficient) work systems and safety briefings led to measurable improvements in work conditions. The study concludes that small enterprises require tailored, participatory safety management approaches to prevent workplace accidents and improve employee wellbeing. Systematic hazard assessments and alignment with Indonesian OHS law (UU No. 1 Tahun 1970) are essential to establish a sustainable safety culture in informal industries.

Abstract

Training on the use of ICT-based learning media was held to improve teachers' digital literacy at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Raja. This program is divided into two stages to strengthen teachers' ability to create and apply digital learning media that is interesting, interactive, and relevant to their needs. The goal is to give teachers practical skills in using digital platforms such as Canva, Wordwall, Wayground (Quizizz), and CapCut when teaching. The method of implementation includes opening, explanation of the material, direct practice, and assessment through pretest and posttest to measure the improvement of participants' understanding. The results of the assessment showed an increase in the average score of participants from 50.52 to 55.05 from a total of 57 people, indicating a significant increase in mastery of ICT-based learning media. The response of the participants was very good, as evidenced by the activeness in the discussion, the willingness to try the media, and the seriousness in making learning products. The program is planned to be continuous with the product presentation stage, the application of media in the classroom, and practical guidance and assessment. It is hoped that this activity can be an important step in supporting digital learning changes at the high school level.

Abstract

This study explores the perceptions of tutors from the English Student Association (ESA) at Hamzanwadi University regarding their participation in a community service program held from 2022 to 2024. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with purposively selected participants. The study findings indicate that the community service program has had a significant impact on the academic, social, and personal development of prospective tutors. Most tutors considered this activity a valuable experiential learning platform that improved their communication, teaching skills, self-confidence, and leadership. This analysis is supported by experiential learning theory (Kolb, 1984), the concept of service-based learning (Dewey & Freire), and the principles of assistive therapy (Riessman, 1965), which collectively demonstrate that community service not only benefits the community but also fosters meaningful personal growth among participating students. This study recommends continued support and institutionalization of community service programs as part of professional and character development in higher education.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to enhance financial literacy and entrepreneurial readiness among Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) in Penang, Malaysia. Many TKI, particularly those employed in the informal sector, face significant challenges in managing personal finances and lack the necessary skills to initiate small businesses. In collaboration with the NGO Permai Malaysia, this program offers participatory training that covers basic financial management, daily expense tracking, savings and debt planning, as well as the development of simple micro-enterprises. The program is designed using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach and employs Gap Analysis to identify learning needs. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and confidence in financial management, with many expressing enthusiasm and readiness to apply the skills acquired. The success of this initiative highlights the importance of practical and context-relevant education in empowering migrant workers towards economic independence. This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of quality education, decent work, and reduced inequalities.

Abstract

Non-formal educational institutions such as tutoring centers play a vital role in enhancing the quality of education within communities. However, many of these institutions face challenges in management governance, particularly in establishing standardized operational procedures and financial accountability systems. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen the management capacity of the Eka Learning Center (ELC) by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and an accountable, transparent bookkeeping system using Microsoft Excel. The method adopted was a participatory approach, consisting of socialization sessions, technical training, simulation practices, and intensive mentoring for ELC administrators. The outcomes demonstrated a significant improvement in the partners’ understanding and skills in preparing applicable SOP documents and recording financial transactions systematically through customized Excel templates. Furthermore, the partners showed enhanced capacity in generating basic financial reports that are internally and externally accountable. This program contributed positively to increasing operational efficiency and institutional transparency. The success of this activity is expected to serve as a model for similar educational institutions and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of quality education and good institutional governance.

Abstract

Despite the capability of public cemeteries to accommodate deviant behaviour, it has not formed an item of analysis in understanding insecurity in residential areas in South-West, Nigeria. The study identified the forms of security threats public cemeteries pose for residents in South-West, Nigeria; examined the management of public cemeteries in South-West, Nigeria; and reviewed residents’ roles in cemetery security in South-West, Nigeria. The study was guided by the assumption that a public cemetery is not a security threat to residents in Nigeria. The theoretical framework adopted and applied to the study is the Broken Windows Theory. The theory was adopted and applied to the study from the perspective that neighbourhood challenges are not promptly and properly addressed, such as the activities of deviant persons in cemeteries lead to more neighbourhood challenges. The study noted that public cemetery implies environmental abuse, security threats, physical abuse, and health challenges to residents. Public cemeteries are poorly managed, resulting from poor funding. Residents’ role in the protection of public cemeteries has been identified to include complaints and praise to the appropriate authority. Hence, the assumption of the study that a public cemetery is not a threat is valid because it is the management failure of the facility that informs the possible threat it poses to residents. The study recommended that prompt attention should be paid to the management of public cemeteries wherever located. Also, residents should be empowered to protect public cemeteries in their respective areas.

Abstract

Rebranding is a crucial strategy for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to strengthen product identity and make it more relevant to modern market demands. However, many MSME actors still lack a comprehensive understanding of rebranding concepts and benefits, particularly in terms of visual identity, brand communication, and digital marketing utilization. This community service activity aimed to improve MSME players' understanding in Gebang Putih Subdistrict through a socialization program conducted by students of the KKNT Bela Negara SDGs team from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jawa Timur. The method consisted of three main stages: observation, interactive socialization, and evaluation. The results showed that the socialization was effective in raising awareness and motivation among MSME actors regarding the importance of rebranding. Several business owners began implementing changes in their marketing strategies, such as using social media, strengthening visual branding, and applying product storytelling. However, the implementation still faced technical limitations and resource constraints. Thus, the socialization served as an essential initial step, but requires follow-up training and support to ensure sustainable and optimal rebranding practices.
