Abstract

This study aims to explore strategies to increase community participation in regional tax payments through the use of social media by the Surabaya Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda). Local taxes are one of the important sources of revenue for local governments, and increasing public participation is essential for sustainable urban development. Social media, with its wide reach, real-time interactions, and engaging content, provides an effective communication tool to increase public awareness and participation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to research Bapenda's strategy, the challenges faced, and the effectiveness of the use of social media in tax education. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with key informants, participatory observations, and documentation of Bapenda's social media activities. The results of the study show that Bapenda Surabaya utilizes platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to disseminate various content, such as infographics, educational videos, and payment reminders, to engage the public. Social media has proven to be effective in reaching a wider audience, especially the younger generation, although there are still challenges in terms of accessibility for older age groups and people who are less familiar with digital platforms. The study also identified key obstacles, such as resource constraints, technical challenges, and community skepticism. Recommendations for improvement include the use of simpler language, expanding the use of traditional media along with digital platforms, and increasing transparency regarding the use of tax funds. This research contributes to understanding how social media can be used to increase participation in local tax payments, which in turn supports the development of the city of Surabaya

Abstract

The success of cooperatives in supporting farmers through capital loan programs and agricultural education depends on their ability to overcome key challenges, such as the dependence of farmers' income on the harvest season and the risk of crop failure due to extreme weather. To overcome this, the Sawiran cooperative developed an educational program that includes mulching drip irrigation techniques, allowing farmers to plant out-of-season and make optimal use of land. In addition, crop diversification is encouraged to increase farmers' income and reduce the risks resulting from dependence on one type of crop. Capital loans from cooperatives provide flexibility for farmers to manage farming finances, such as buying seeds, fertilizer or agricultural equipment. With initial capital, farmers can increase productivity and quality of harvest using modern technology introduced by cooperatives. In addition, the close relationship between cooperatives and farmers supports the financial stability of cooperatives and opens up opportunities for farmers to become permanent members. The benefits of this program include earlier harvests at higher selling prices, reduced risk of losses due to certain planting seasons, and diversification of farming businesses which increases farmers' economic resilience. However, the government's role is needed to complement cooperative efforts in providing comprehensive access to education and technology. It is hoped that good collaboration can create sustainable solutions to improve the welfare of farmers in the Ngadisari region

Abstract

This service activity aims to improve food sustainability in Merdeka Village through the integration of scientific and cultural approaches. The program identifies and leverages local resources, such as cassava, corn, and coconut, to develop innovative products that address societal challenges, including the lack of utilization of organic waste, limited access to simple technology, and a lack of product diversification. Four prototypes were successfully developed, namely shredded coconut pulp, cookies made from cassava flour and titi corn, caramelized cassava cakes, and organic fertilizer from livestock waste. The demonstration and training involved active community participation with significant results: 100% of participants succeeded in producing shredded coconut pulp independently, 90% of participants succeeded in making ready-to-sell cookies, and 80% of farmers showed understanding and skills in making organic fertilizer. This program has succeeded in optimizing local resources, reducing waste, and empowering communities to produce products that are sustainable, nutritious, and have high economic value. This activity shows the importance of integrating local cultural knowledge with technological innovation to achieve food sovereignty. This initiative not only answers the needs of the community directly but also provides a replicable model to promote sustainable agricultural practices and improve local economies in similar regions.

Abstract

The MSME mentoring program in the Sapuran area, Wonosobo, aims to empower underprivileged communities with a focus on micro businesses. This assistance uses an Assets-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach which maps and develops existing assets in the community, supporting business sustainability. Mentoring involves student facilitators who work with 30 customers from grocery, agricultural, goods production and reseller businesses. The methodology applied consists of four stages: SWOT analysis, providing material on business management, marketing and brand development, material review, and direct practice. The ABCD approach encourages customers to utilize internal resources, such as existing skills, products and networks, to design innovative solutions for their businesses. The results of the assistance show that customers better understand how to manage their business in a structured and efficient manner, as well as increasing product competitiveness through the use of simple technology, such as marketing via social media and developing a business identity. This program also strengthens community economic resilience through strengthening micro businesses and becomes a model that can be applied in other regions to support the sustainability of MSMEs

Abstract

The relatively high price of inorganic fertilizers means that members of the Harapan Jaya Farmer Group are unable to optimally meet their fertilizer needs. On the other hand, farmers have not been able to process their agricultural waste properly which is generally only by burning. This method is not environmentally friendly because it can pollute the air, lose its nitrogen content and kill soil organisms that are useful for plants. In fact, there is no return of crop residues to the land. This condition can cause soil fertility to decrease and requiring more fertilizer inputs. This additional input has an impact on increasing the cost of farming. To solve above problems, this community service program had been undertaken in April to November 2024 through counseling, training and mentoring to farmers who are members of the farmer group as the partner in this program. The focus of this program was mainly on the management of gramine crop waste such as rice and corn which absorb very high silicon element. The results of this service showed that the training participants were very enthusiastic in attending the counselling and could absorb the presented materials. Almost all participants were able to overcome the techniques or methods in the process of making silicon fertilizer during the training. In addition, they were also very interested in trying the fermented and well-designed fertilizer based on the respondent’s assessment. However, applying fertilizer in the form of demo plots requires separate planning in the future because the process of making silicon fertilizer takes very long time.

Abstract

This research deeply explores the relationship between public awareness in paying taxes and its impact on increasing local revenue realization, a crucial aspect in the sustainability of regional development. In this context, the research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, which allows for an in-depth understanding of the dynamics at play, with a focus on secondary data analysis of local revenue realization. The main findings of this study underline the existence of a significant positive correlation between the level of public awareness in paying taxes and the increase in local revenue realization. More specifically, this study highlights the effectiveness of the *door-to-door* strategy as a highly influential method in raising public awareness of their tax obligations. This approach allows direct interaction between tax officers and taxpayers, which has proven to be effective in increasing public understanding, compliance, and ultimately, contribution to local revenue. In addition, this study also identified other factors that influence people's awareness in paying taxes, such as level of education, understanding of the benefits of taxes, and trust in local government. Improving people's financial literacy using m-banking is crucial in today's digital era, where around 70% of Indonesians still have a low level of financial literacy. This research focuses on Bank Mandiri Surabaya Branch, where more than 60% of customers do not fully understand the use of digital banking services, especially m-banking. This community service activity aims to improve customers' understanding of m-banking and its benefits in financial management.
