Abstract

This research aims to investigate the significance of the interpretation of the animal element in the manuscript Jav 24, which contains the text Jayalengkara Wulang, and its relevance to the main doctrine of Javanese leadership, namely Asta Brata. This investigation involves qualitative research using the hermeneutic phenomenological approach of Paul Ricouer. This study limits the interpretation to the illumination elements depicting three animals, namely elephants, lions and crocodiles. As an illuminating element in the text, the elephant represents strength, the lion represents protection from disturbances from the land, and the crocodile represents protection from disturbances from the water. In other words, the animal images as enlightenment elements in this text represent strength and protection. Strength and protection are two of the eight most important Javanese leadership teachings summarized in Asta Brata. Illumination is another manifestation of text so that there is a message contained in this illumination. In order for the message manifested in this illumination to reach the reader, it is necessary to present these illuminations in a more popular form.

Abstract

Teachers have a pivotal role in shaping students’ intellect by sharing knowledge and fostering critical thinking. Despite being perceived as resilient, they encounter struggles that impede their effectiveness due to overwhelming paperwork, classroom management issues, administrative responsibilities, and the nature of their work. As a result, one of the ways they cope to alleviate stress is by turning to coffee and making it a part of their routine. This phenomenology study explored the unheard narratives of public-school teachers’ frequency of coffee consumption, motivation, and impact on their daily routine. Ten (10) key informants were selected using purposive sampling to participate in the study. A structured interview guide was used and executed in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as an approach to data collection. The study revealed that the aroma, antioxidants, and warm feelings were the themes that drove teachers to consume coffee. Also, coffee provides an extra boost of energy, a brighter mood, and a sense of fulfillment as it is perceived to contribute to the daily routine of teachers. It is concluded that coffee secures a spot in the daily habits of teachers as it gives them the alertness and activeness needed to begin their day effectively. In addition, taking coffee breaks allows teachers to discuss their issues and difficulties while offering each other support. This fosters a sense of camaraderie over a cup of coffee, potentially resulting in solid friendships and forming a tight-knit teaching community, all for the benefit of the students.

Abstract

This study assessed the awareness of basic computer concepts and terminology among 461 first-year students enrolled in Information Technology Education (ITE) programs at the University of Antique Tario-Lim Memorial Campus during the first semester of Academic Year 2024-2025. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed, utilizing a structured survey questionnaire to evaluate students' familiarity with fundamental computer concepts across Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), Computer Science (BSCS), and Information Systems (BSIS) programs. Results revealed moderate familiarity with basic concepts but significant gaps in advanced areas such as programming languages, cybersecurity, and software development life cycle. BSCS students demonstrated stronger familiarity with hardware and software applications, while BSIS students excelled in information systems. The study identified a pressing need for targeted educational interventions, particularly for students from non-ICT backgrounds. These findings underscore the importance of aligning curriculum development with students' diverse preparatory needs and industry expectations. The research contributes valuable insights for enhancing IT education strategies and suggests the implementation of remedial courses to bridge knowledge gaps, thereby improving students' academic and professional prospects in the rapidly evolving IT field.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems are increasingly designed with affective characteristics. Emotionalized AI machines simulate human emotions to provide emotional assistance to human beings in various areas of life, and in turn, reshaping communication. Both the cognitive and affective aspects of artificial intelligence technology are widely adopted in today’s world due to their positive impact in accomplishing tasks. However, the critical question regarding the implications of AI advancement on the emotional human communication is the crux of this study. Thus, this research work inquired into the implications of artificial intelligence systems on the innate emotional human interaction. Communication research in this area has not received much attention. Therefore, through the use of conceptual research approach, 186 scientific article publications were extracted from Ebsco and Google databases, out of which 47 met the inclusion criteria based on the study objective. Data from these secondary sources were critically analyzed. This study was anchored on the theoretical foundation of Diffusion of Innovation theory. The study argues that though the advancement in artificial intelligence (AI) systems comes with lots of positive values, the intrinsic human-human emotional communication is a greater value that should not be endangered or substituted by technology. Hence, the paper recommends a conscious effort on the part of researchers and manufacturers of artificial intelligence (AI) systems to strictly abide by ethical standards in order to preserve this innate value in the human person.
