Abstract

Tuba root (Derris elliptica) is a plant that contains rotenone in roots where this content functions as a poison for insects, so tuba root has the opportunity to be used as a vegetable pesticide in pest control activities. Research on tuba roots as control of white-backed planthopper pests (Metcalfa pruinosa) on green deli water guava plants (Syzygium aqueum L.) has never been carried out, therefore research was conducted which aimed to determine the effect of long soaking of tuba roots (Derris elliptica) on the death of planthopper pests white back (Metcalfa pruinosa) on green deli water guava (Syzygium aqueum L.). The type of research used was experimental research using 5 treatments, namely soaking tuba roots for 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours. The data analysis technique uses the one way ANOVA test and the BNT test at the 0.05 level. The results of the one-way ANOVA test data analysis produced a significant value of less than 0.05, so it can be concluded that the length of soaking tuba roots influences the death rate of white-backed planthopper pests. The treatment that has the most influence on the death of white-backed planthopper pests is application three times a week using tuba root soaking for 12 hours with a mortality rate of 36%.

Abstract

Teaching materials are one of the supporting components for achieving mathematical problem solving abilities. This research aims to analyze the need for teaching materials regarding sequences and series to improve mathematical problem solving abilities for class at SMAN 15 Pekanbaru. Data collection through interviews and questionnaires uses instruments that contain indicators, namely learning resources, content of teaching materials, and needs for teaching materials. The data analysis used is Miles-Huberman Interactive Analysis, which consists of data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. The results of this research indicate that the teaching materials used in learning have shortcomings, namely: the teaching materials do not use a certain approach so that the teaching materials cannot improve mathematical problem solving abilities; material is received by memorization; teaching materials are less attractive, not contextual, unclear and difficult to use if there is no teacher explanation; teaching materials cannot make students active; and teaching materials cannot yet be called teaching materials because the constituent components are still lacking. The teacher stated that learning using teaching materials was better than just using textbooks. Based on the results of the research, it is hoped that it can be followed up to overcome students' problems in using teaching materials designed by teachers and developing teaching materials on sequence and series material which can improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities

Abstract

Sitophilus oryzae or rice weevil is a primary pest of rice that is very detrimental. Pest control that is usually carried out is fumigation using phosphine gas and fumigation using methyl bromide. The use of insecticides has several negative impacts on humans and the environment, so it is necessary to control pests naturally, namely using citronella essential oil. Citronella essential oil contains high levels of citronella and geraniol compounds and these compounds are contact toxic and antifeedant against insects. This research aims to determine the effect of citronella essential oil on mortality using the fumigation method and the response of rice lice to citronella essential oil in the flourdisc bioassay test. This research was carried out at the insect pest control and biodetriosation and formulation laboratory, using a completely randomized plan. The results showed that citronella oil was classified as effective in controlling the population of S. oryzae with a mortality of 41% using fumigation method and had anti-feedant properties compared to the control in the flour disk assay test. In the flourdisc bioassay method, the percentage of 2 gr/L influences the low relative growth rate, relative consumption rate and conversion efficiency of consumed food and the food prevention index continues to increase. Citronella essential oil has potential and effectiveness as a control for the warehouse pest rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae).

Abstract

Diagnosing students' conceptions is extremely valuable for assessing their level of understanding and preventing misconceptions. The four-tier test is a diagnostic instrument specifically designed to identify students' misconceptions, assess their grasp of concepts, and uncover confidence levels in their answers. Misconceptions refer to concepts that students comprehend but do not align with scientific understanding, Reproduction in plants is one of the subjects that can reveal misconceptions. yet students remain confident in their comprehension. Reproduction in plants is one of the subjects that can reveal misconceptions. To diagnose students' conceptions of plant reproduction, a set of four-tier multiple-choice questions was distributed to 101 9th-grade students who had previously studied the topic. Students' conceptions were classified into categories: scientific knowledge, false positives, false negatives, misconceptions, and lack of knowledge. Data analysis was conducted using MS Excel to calculate percentages and frequencies. The results demonstrate that students had a higher percentage of correct understanding compared to misconceptions. However, one particular subtopic, fertilization in plants and seed dispersal, exhibited the highest occurrence of misconceptions. This can be attributed to the students' overall strong scientific knowledge in these schools. To address identified misconceptions, teachers should establish connections between the material and real-life situations, engage students in projects and discussions, and openly discuss misconceptions. Additionally, introducing Latin terminology related to the subject matter can help familiarize students with the language used in the material. By implementing these strategies, teachers can effectively address misconceptions, promote a deeper understanding of plant reproduction, and provide meaningful learning experiences for students.

Abstract

Yellow root (Arcangelisia flava L. Merr) contains ethanol compounds which is able to inhibit bacterial growth, both gram negative bacteria such as Stapylococcus aureus, Shigella sp., and Escherichia coli, as well as gram positive bacteria such as Yersinia enterocolitica, Streptococcus, Salmonella typhi, and Clostridium. This research is an experimental research that aims to determine the nature of antagonism (adaptability) between Yersinia enterocolitica bacteria and Salmonella typhi bacteria by administering yellow root extract at concentrations of 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60% within 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. The results showed that the positive control and negative control treatmens were not able to inhibit the growth of Yersinia enterocolitica bacteria and Salmonella typhi bacteria.Yellow root extract has acidity that effectively inhibits Yersinia enterocolitica bacteria at a concentration of 50%, while the most effective concentration for inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria is a concentration of 30%. Besides that, there are also differences in adaptability between Yersinia enterocolitica bacteria and Salmonella typhi bacteria. Salmonella typhi bacteria is more adaptable then Yersinia enterocolitica bacteria, this is evidenced by the inhibition zone formed which is smaller than Yersinia enterocolitica bacteria.
