Abstract

In the dynamic healthcare environment, nurse performance plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality service delivery. However, work pressure, administrative burdens, and rising public expectations pose significant challenges. This study investigated how job resources influence nurse performance, as mediated by work engagement and moderated by job complexity. Drawing on the Job Demands–Resources (JD-R) model, this study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional survey involving 174 nurses in private hospitals in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Using partial least squares structural equation modelling (SEM-PLS), this study confirms that job resources significantly enhance both work engagement and performance, with engagement serving as a key mediator. Interestingly, job complexity did not significantly moderate the relationship between job resources, engagement, and performance. These findings suggest that supportive work environments remain critical, even in standardised healthcare settings, and that job complexity may not universally enhance motivational dynamics. This study contributes to the literature by extending the JD-R model to a developing country context and informing hospital HR policies on resource investment strategies.

Abstract

In the current organizational landscape, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) represents an essential driver of performance and innovation within the public sector. Employees’ willingness to perform beyond formal job duties often depends on how supported and valued they feel, as well as the degree of collaboration that characterizes their workplace. However, empirical evidence remains limited regarding how these contextual factors jointly enhance OCB through affective commitment, particularly in public institutions of developing regions. This study explores the mediating role of affective commitment in the relationship between perceived organizational support, collaborative climate, and OCB among civil servants in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Using a quantitative explanatory approach and the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method with SmartPLS 4, data from 168 respondents were analyzed. The results indicate that supportive and collaborative work environments significantly strengthen OCB both directly and indirectly through affective commitment, emphasizing the importance of emotional attachment, empathy, and teamwork in fostering voluntary and constructive employee behavior.

Abstract

The growing emphasis on environmental sustainability in the tourism sector has accelerated the adoption of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices. This study investigates the effect of green recruitment and development on employee performance, with job satisfaction as a mediating variable, within the context of ecotourism destinations in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The primary objective is to examine how environmentally oriented HR strategies contribute to improving employee outcomes in sustainable tourism settings. A quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze data collected from 355 employees through structured surveys. The results revealed that both green recruitment and green development significantly influence employee performance, both directly and indirectly, through enhanced job satisfaction. Notably, green development exerted the strongest influence on job satisfaction, affirming its role in building a committed and high-performing workforce. These findings offer theoretical contributions to the development of GHRM frameworks by validating job satisfaction as a key psychological pathway. Practically, this study highlights the importance of embedding sustainability values in HR practices to strengthen organizational performance in nature-based tourism enterprises.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of training and human resource development (HRD) on employee performance, with intrinsic motivation acting as a mediating variable. The research focuses on Kariangau Ferry Port Balikpapan, a public sector organization that plays a strategic role in regional logistics and maritime connectivity in Indonesia. Utilizing a quantitative methodology, data were collected from 41 employees, encompassing both operational and administrative staff. The analytical method employed was Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. The findings indicate that both training and HRD significantly enhance employee performance. Intrinsic motivation partially mediates the relationship between training, HRD, and performance, highlighting its crucial role in strengthening employees' internal drive to perform effectively. These results align with Self-Determination Theory, which posits that intrinsic motivation-shaped by autonomy, competence, and relatedness-is vital in sustaining performance improvement. Theoretically, this study contributes to the expansion of HRD and motivation literature within the context of public sector organizations, particularly in developing economies. Practically, the results offer managerial insights for designing targeted training and continuous development programs that foster intrinsic motivation and enhance the sustainability of employee performance in public service institutions.

Abstract

This qualitative inquiry explores hospitality students’ self-assessed preparedness for participating in English-mediated employment interviews within the international hospitality sector, emphasizing the mismatch between pedagogical practices in the classroom and the communicative realities of professional interviews. Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth interviews involving 20 students enrolled at STIPARY Tourism Academy Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The interview data were subjected to thematic analysis guided by three pre-established analytical frameworks derived from the study objectives. The analysis identifies three overarching dimensions of readiness gaps. The first concerns affective constraints, where all participants exhibited interview-related anxiety, particularly when required to respond spontaneously. This affective burden was further compounded by limited command of hospitality-specific lexis and observable psychophysiological inhibition when facing high-pressure questioning. The second dimension relates to insufficient interview preparation, reflected in students’ unfamiliarity with the STAR interview framework, overdependence on rote memorization, and difficulty in producing logically organized and persuasive responses. The third dimension involves contextual inadequacies, notably a lack of awareness regarding intercultural interview conventions, appropriate register selection, and effective strategies for addressing challenging or sensitive questions. Despite its focus on a single Indonesian tourism institution, the study offers important pedagogical implications. The findings point to the urgency of integrating anxiety regulation strategies, explicit training in structured interview discourse, sustained practice in spontaneous spoken interaction, instruction in cross-cultural pragmatics, and closer collaboration with industry stakeholders through authentic HR-oriented feedback. This study extends the ESP and vocational ELT literature by revealing instances of complete communicative shutdown during interviews and by highlighting the discrepancy between students’ perceived self-marketing confidence and their actual oral proficiency.

Abstract

The wave of digital disruption that has hit Indonesia has created a fundamental paradox in organizational governance. On the one hand, technology offers operational efficiency and market expansion through fintech and artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence). However, on the other hand, this acceleration triggers new vulnerabilities in the form of psychological pressure on employees, customer data security risks, and ethical dilemmas in trust-based industries such as Islamic banking and the media. This article aims to formulate a comprehensive management strategy capable of navigating such complexities. Through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to empirical case studies for the period 2020-2025, this study found that the success of digital transformation is not solely determined by IT infrastructure, but by human capital resilience and regulatory compliance. The study's findings show that organizations must implement an empathetic leadership model to mitigate technostress, strengthen consumer protection legal architectures, and maintain the value of humanism in automation services. The managerial implications of this study suggest the need for a shift in focus from simply "digitizing processes" to "cultural transformation" that is sustainable.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively describe and analyze the design and implementation strategies for integrating the Salafiyah Dayah curriculum and Formal Diniyah Education (PDF) at Dayah Babussalam Al Hanafiyah. In line with the demands of formal recognition and globalization, traditional educational institutions such as dayah are faced with the challenge of adapting without sacrificing their Islamic identity. Dayah Babussalam Al Hanafiyah has taken a strategic policy by implementing the PDF program since 2015 to integrate the epistemology of tafaqquh fiddin with national curriculum standards. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the dayah leadership, the head of the PDF, the teaching staff, and students, as well as a curriculum documentation study. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the curriculum integration design strategy was implemented through a collaborative planning and strategic alignment approach involving various stakeholders to formulate a bi-disciplinary curriculum. The integration model implemented encompasses four main pathways: interdisciplinary-substantive (linking science with theological concepts), structural-organizational (implementing a dual schedule system), technological-convergent (using digital media), and affective through the hidden curriculum (internalizing values through daily worship traditions). The implementation of this strategy is supported by visionary leadership that combines Salafiyah values with modern management based on the principles of shura, amanah, and itqan. Furthermore, the effectiveness of this integration has been proven to have a significant impact on improving the holistic competence of students. Based on the competency dimension, students showed improvements in aspects of motivation and self-concept through pride in religious-academic identity, mastery of dual knowledge (yellow books and science), and 21st-century skills including critical thinking, communication, and collaboration through mubahatsah forums. In terms of character, this integration strengthens discipline and social leadership based on Islamic values. This study concludes that the integration model at Dayah Babussalam Al Hanafiyah reflects the evolution from a mono-disciplinary system to a multi-lens educational framework that is adaptive to changing times while remaining firmly grounded in tradition. These findings contribute to the development of a practical model (best practice) for integrative curriculum management in Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia.
