Abstract

Introduction: Smoking behavior among adolescents and young adults remains a serious health issue, including within academic environments. Objectives: This study aims to determine the prevalence and characteristics of smoking behavior among students of the Health Promotion study program at the State Polytechnic of Jember. Method: This research used a descriptive quantitative method with a total sample of 25 male students from the 2022, 2023, and 2024 cohorts, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. Result: The results showed that 48% of respondents engaged in smoking behavior, with the majority consuming 1–5 cigarettes per day. Most respondents were aged between 19–21 years, a vulnerable phase influenced by social pressure and environmental factors. Conclution: Despite having a background in health education, there is a gap between the students' knowledge and their smoking behavior. Factors such as peer pressure, academic stress, and media influence are the main triggers of smoking habits. These findings highlight the need for more serious efforts to control smoking behavior among students, especially health students who are expected to be role models in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Introduction: An effective fire emergency response system is a critical element in ensuring safety within hospital environments, where high occupancy, vulnerable patients, and complex infrastructure increase fire-related risks. Hospitals are required to implement comprehensive fire safety management systems to protect employees, patients, visitors, and physical assets. However, gaps in preparedness, particularly related to human resources and procedural awareness, remain a challenge. This study aims to identify and prioritize issues related to fire emergency response readiness, develop alternative improvement strategies, and determine priority actions at Premier Bintaro Hospital. Methods: This study employed a descriptive qualitative design. Data were collected through direct observations, in-depth interviews with key hospital personnel, and document analysis of fire safety policies, training records, and maintenance documentation. The qualitative approach enabled an in-depth understanding of existing fire emergency response practices and institutional preparedness. Results: The findings indicate that several fire safety components at Premier Bintaro Hospital, including employee development initiatives and the availability of active fire protection facilities such as fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and smoke detectors, generally comply with applicable safety standards. Nevertheless, critical gaps were identified, particularly in the consistency of routine fire emergency training, employee awareness of evacuation procedures, and the completeness of maintenance documentation for fire protection systems. Conclusion: This study recommends strengthening routine coaching and training programs, improving staff awareness of fire evacuation procedures, and enhancing documentation and monitoring of fire protection facility maintenance. Optimizing these measures is expected to improve hospital preparedness, minimize potential losses due to fire incidents, and reinforce the implementation of an effective fire safety management system within the hospital environment.

Abstract

Introduction: The quality of nursing services is influenced by multiple factors, including workload, work motivation, and the work environment. Nurse engagement, as a positive psychological state, may mediate the relationship between these factors and service quality. Objectives: This study aims to examine the effects of workload, work motivation, and work environment on nursing service quality through engagement among nurses at Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital. Method: A quantitative study with a survey design and path analysis was conducted involving 142 nurses selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Statistical analyses included linear regression and path analysis. Result: Workload had a negative effect on service quality (β = –0.252; p < 0.003) and engagement (β = –0.344; p < 0.000). Work motivation positively affected service quality (β = 0.405; p < 0.000) and engagement (β = 0.472; p < 0.000). The work environment positively influenced service quality (β = 0.742; p < 0.000) and engagement (β = 0.322; p < 0.003). Engagement significantly improved service quality (β = 0.475; p < 0.000). Mediation analysis showed that workload and motivation had indirect effects on service quality through engagement, while the work environment did not demonstrate a significant indirect effect. Conclution: Workload, work motivation, and work environment significantly influence nursing service quality. Engagement mediates the effects of workload and motivation but does not mediate the influence of the work environment.

Abstract

Introduction: In Indonesia, child nutrition problems, particularly stunting, remain a major challenge in public health development. According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2020), approximately 149.2 million children under the age of five experience developmental disorders, with 94% residing in low- and middle-income countries. Indonesia continues to face a relatively high prevalence of child developmental disorders, with 7.51% of children affected and an estimated 1–3% of children under five experiencing developmental delays. In Bitung Jaya Village, Tangerang, limited community nutrition literacy remains a significant concern, with nearly 40% of residents demonstrating insufficient knowledge and awareness regarding child nutrition. Barriers such as limited access to health information and low educational attainment further exacerbate this issue. Objectives: This study aims to design an effective child nutrition education infographic tailored to the needs of the Bitung Jaya Village community as a creative strategy to improve public knowledge and awareness of child nutrition. Methods: This study employed a mixed methods research design. Data were collected from mothers attending Posyandu Melati through surveys and observations, as well as from Posyandu-related information sources, to identify community needs, knowledge gaps, and appropriate content for infographic development. Results: The findings indicate that the majority of mothers had limited understanding of balanced child nutrition and stunting prevention. The development of child nutrition infographics, designed using simple language and visual elements and displayed on the Posyandu bulletin board, was considered appropriate and accessible for the community. The infographic design addressed key nutrition topics relevant to local needs and was perceived as an effective educational medium. Conclusion: The child nutrition infographic developed in this study demonstrates potential as an effective health education tool to improve community nutrition literacy in Bitung Jaya Village. The use of visually engaging and contextually relevant educational media can support Posyandu activities and contribute to efforts to prevent child nutrition problems, including stunting, at the community level.
