Abstract

This research analyzes the preferences of UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah (UIN SATU) Tulungagung students, as representatives of Generation Z, toward political content on social media. This study aims to determine the preferences of UIN SATU Tulungagung students for political content on social media, a typology of their chosen political social media, and analyze it using agenda-setting theory to understand the influence on their political awareness. This study uses a descriptive-prescriptive qualitative approach with a case study, interviews with 90 respondents via Google Forms, FGDs with 17 informants, and analysis using agenda-setting theory. The research findings indicate that almost all students (91%) consistently access political content thru Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube for quick insights, engaging visuals, and diverse perspectives that are considered more credible than mainstream media. Their primary preferences include accounts like Kompas.com, Tirto.id, PinterPolitik, Malaka Project, and Mojok.co, with content characterized by informative articles, infographics/short videos, relevance to social issues such as human rights, education, government transparency, and critical/progressive narratives that encourage discussion. They categorized accounts into five typologies: (1) mainstream news (Kompas.com, CNN Indonesia) for neutral facts; (2) political literacy (PinterPolitik, Perspektif.Idn) with educational infographics; (3) activism/criticism (Malaka Project, Social Movement Institute) focusing on social justice; (4) satire/narrative (Mojok.co, Harus Mikir) combining humor and analysis; and (5) personal/institutional (Akbar Faizal, Constitutional Court) for vocal opinions or formal law. They compared the advantages/disadvantages of accounts, demonstrating high digital literacy despite 37.6% being inactive in organizations. Agenda setting by these accounts shapes opinions thru issue salience such as corruption, government policy, and public welfare, raising critical awareness without directly determining political choices—the majority of respondents (in three forms: fully/partially/not influenced) use them for reflection, multi-source analysis, and social participation. The findings confirm that Generation Z at UIN SATU has good literacy, is sensitive to civil issues, and is independent in filtering out hoaxes/polarization

The background of this study stems from the need for journalist organizations to adapt amid the dynamics of media digitalization, audience fragmentation, and demands for journalistic professionalism. The strategic organizational communication approach is used as a theoretical basis to understand how organizational structures, communication channels, and feedback mechanisms are built to achieve the goal of presenting informative and relevant news to the local public. The research method used a qualitative descriptive design with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, observation of organizational activities, and analysis of internal documentation. The results of the study show that the communication strategy of IJTI Tapal Kuda Jember includes vertical, horizontal, and collaborative communication patterns among its members to ensure consistency in news presentation, strengthen journalistic professionalism, and preserve local identity in content production. Internal evaluation mechanisms and routine coordination were also found to play a role in improving the effectiveness of information dissemination and editorial decision-making. This study concludes that the organizational communication strategy implemented by IJTI Tapal Kuda Jember has a direct impact on the quality and character of local television news. These findings contribute theoretically to the study of strategic organizational communication and offer practical recommendations for journalist associations and local television stations in improving coordination, content quality, and media sustainability at the regional level.

Abstract

Communication as a means of transmitting values, traditions, and religious identities in society, especially in maintaining the sustainability of traditional religious activities such as selapanan recitation involving various age groups. The background of the research shows that the difference in communication characteristics between the older generation and the younger generation in the digital era has the potential to cause a communication gap that can affect the sustainability of traditions. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the intergenerational communication pattern that occurs between religious leaders, the older generation, and Generation Z in maintaining the existence of the Selapanan Recitation in Tepus Hamlet, Somorejo Village. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. The results of the study show that the sustainability of the selapanan recitation is influenced by the application of dialogical, participatory, and multidirectional communication patterns, where the older generation plays the role of guardians of values and traditions, while the younger generation plays the role of an agent of adaptation to social change. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that open and inclusive intergenerational communication is able to create a balance between preserving tradition and adapting to the times so that the recitation of the selapanan remains relevant as a spiritual and social space for the community.

Abstract

The management of people with mental disorders (ODGJ) at the community level requires the active involvement of families and the Task Force (Satgas) as key actors in the support process. However, communication between the two parties often fails to function optimally and sustainably. This study aims to analyze and explore collaborative communication between the Task Force and families in building resilience and independence among ODGJ patients in Mandala Village, Sumenep Regency. This is a qualitative study using a descriptive approach.Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion-drawing techniques. The results indicate that collaborative communication evolves gradually from a reactive pattern toward a participatory one, yet remains dynamic and vulnerable to emotional pressures, differing perceptions, and limitations within the support system. The main findings of this study confirm that collaborative communication functions as a mechanism for social transformation within families, contributing to strengthening resilience and promoting patient independence. Therefore, a structured and sustainable communication system is needed in community-based care for people with mental health conditions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the form of self-disclosure carried out by generation Z through the comments column on Instagram content @bintangemon seen from the perspective of the Johari Window theory. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research type with a phenomenological approach based on communication netnography. Data analysis was conducted through thematic coding of questionnaire data and netnographic observation results. The results show that the Instagram comment column on the @bintangemon account has become a digital interaction space that allows Generation Z to conduct self-disclosure. Based on the analysis using the Johari Window theory, the forms of self-disclosure that emerged include the open area, namely the user's openness in relating content to personal experiences and feelings; the blind area, namely spontaneous comments that unconsciously show certain attitudes or emotions; the hidden area, namely the user's efforts to maintain privacy boundaries by not sharing all personal information, including through the use of a second account; and the unknown area, namely the emergence of new reflections and self-awareness through interactions with other users in the comment column. Thus, the Instagram comment column is not only a space for entertainment, but also a medium for self-expression and social reflection for Generation Z in the digital communication environment.

Abstract

This article analyzes Islamic journalism in the algorithmic era by highlighting the relationship between the mission of da'wah, information ethics, and the logic of digital platforms. The development of digital media has changed the practice of Islamic journalism from just delivering religious information to a form of digital da'wah that operates in an algorithm-based system. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method through a descriptive-critical analysis of the literature on Islamic journalism, digital da'wah, information ethics, and digital platforms. The results of the study show that Islamic journalism faces a tension between the value of da'wah and the logic of the attention economy in digital platforms. On the one hand, Islamic journalism is required to maintain the principles of da'wah, tabayyun, accuracy, balance, and social responsibility. On the other hand, digital media encourages adaptation to click-based visibility mechanisms, engagement, virality, and content distribution optimization. This article offers an adaptive negotiation model that places da'wah, information ethics, and platform logic as elements that must be managed in a balanced manner. Islamic journalism in the age of algorithms should not reject digital technologies, but neither should it be completely subservient to the logic of platforms. Therefore, an adaptive, ethical, and credible Islamic communication model is needed so that the da'wah function continues to run effectively in the midst of changes in the digital media ecosystem.
