Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by damage to the pancreas, which cannot produce insulin. Antidiabetic drugs and insulin injections in the long term have specific side effects, so herbal medicine is considered safer to use. Sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca) is one of the herbal medicines that have the potential as an antidiabetic. Methods: Experimental using a completely randomized design. Rats were divided into five groups with three replicates, namely: Kn = normal control, Ka = STZ control, P1 = DM rats + 200 mg/KgBB extract dose, P2 = DM rats + 300 mg/KgBB extract dose, and P3 = DM rats + 400 mg/KgBB extract dose. The stages of this study began with the preparation of tools and materials, phytochemical tests, the preparation of test animals and testing extracts on test animals, and the measurement of blood glucose levels in rats before and after they were given extracts. Blood glucose levels were measured using a glucometer. Data analysis was performed statistically (ANOVA). The results of the phytochemical tests detected were steroids, saponins, and phenols/tannins, while alkaloids, terpenoids, and flavonoids were not. The most effective blood glucose level measurement result is at a dose of 400 mg/KgBB.

Abstract

Nutrition problems in Indonesia are already classified as multiple nutritional problems, not just nutritional deficiency problems, but the prevalence of overweight and obesity also increases. In 2010 the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Aceh province was 11.2 percent and in 2013 was 14.8 percent resulting in an increase of 3.6 percent. Mother's perception is one factot that can cause cause overweight and obesity. This study wanted to analyze the factors This study wanted to analyze the factors of mother perception in children aged 7-12 years become the cause of overweight and obesity. This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional design aimed at assessing relationship of mother's perception on obesity-related weight status in first-fifth grade elementary school children aged 7-12 years at Kabupaten Aceh Barat. The sample size is 289 students. Determination of child obesity status using Body Mass Index based on Age (IMT/U), that is overweight and obesity if IMT/U>1.0 SD. Data of mother's perception were obtained through questionnaire. There are 51.90% of 289 respondents who had overweight and obesity. There is no relationship between mother perception of obesity with overweight and obesity (p=0.426). But it is different when viewed specifically about the mother's perception related to the child's weight status. Wrong mother's perception of child's weight status has a risk of 4.15 times greater than the right one. There is a correlation between mother’s perception of child's weight status with overweight and obesity.

Abstract

Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) is a vegetable plant from the Brassica order and belongs to the Moringaceae family, known as the “Magic Plant” which has a wide variety of protein content contained in it. Therefore, the bioactive compounds used are Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) which have such great potential that they can be developed as raw materials for medicine. However, because the secondary metabolite compounds contained by plants have hydrophobic properties. This property can be one of the obstacles for these secondary metabolites to be easily absorbed by the body because of their nature which is difficult to dissolve in body fluids so that they can be easily degraded by the body's enzymatic system, to overcome this problem Nanoparticles can be a solution in overcoming this problem. the manufacture of nanoparticles has been carried out. To produce nanoparticles of Moringa leaf bioactive compounds, synthesized using tween 80 surfactants, has been carried out using the spontaneous emulsion method. The bioactive compounds contained in Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) are: (1) 9-Octadecenoic acid (29.64%), (2) Hexadecanoic acid (18.42%), (3) Octadecanoic acid (7.07%), (4) Oleic Acid (5.88%), and (5) 14-Methyl-8-hexadesin-1-ol (5.47%). Synthesis using four different concentrate masses of these compounds, namely: 2 mg, 1.5 mg, 1 mg and 0.5 mg dissolved in 100 ml of ethanol, resulted in an average diameter of each nanoparticle of 15.9 nm; 15.5nm; 14.7nm; and 14.8 nm. The polydispersity index is 0.306; 0.258; 0.122; and 0.282. From the results above, it has been shown that the process of synthesizing nanoparticles of secondary metabolites of ethanol extract using the spontaneous emulsion method has produced small-sized particles. This allows the development of site results to be used in applications in various fields such as in the pharmaceutical field in the drug development process.

Abstract

Fly-borne diseases include dysentery, cholera, abdominal typhus, diarrhea, and others related to poor environmental sanitation conditions, so it is necessary to control flies carefully to avoid environmental pollution and health problems. One plant that contains botanical insecticides is the fragrant pandanus leaf (Pandanus amaryllifolius). Fragrant pandanus leaves contain insecticides in the form of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols. The type of research conducted is experimental with a static group comparison experiment design, which simultaneously measures the dependent variable and the independent variable by comparing the treated results with the control results. The research sample amounted to 240 flies. In the 10-minute observation period, 20 flies were released in one cage for each treatment. The results of this study were obtained. There is a difference in the use of fragrant pandanus leaf extract with a dose of 5 ml (7.67), 10 ml (12.33), and 15 ml (13.67) and without using a dose of fragrant pandanus leaf extract on the level of house fly expulsion: 5 ml (2.33), 10 ml (1.67), and 15 ml (1.33). The dose that causes the most significant expulsion of houseflies is in the extract of fragrant pandanus leaves with a dose of 15 ml because the higher the dose, the more flies are expelled. Conclusion: The results of the ANOVA test based on the dose of fragrant pandanus leaf extract on the number of houses flies that do not land, the degree of freedom obtained from 3 to 8, are used to see Ft. It turns out that Ft 1% = 7.59, Ft 5% = 3.86, and Fo = 536.32; thus, if Fo is greater than Ft, Ho is rejected, meaning that there is a significant difference between the various doses of fragrant pandanus leaf extract on the repulsion of house flies.Â
