Abstract

Durian fruit peel is one of the natural ingredients that are considered environmental waste by the people of Indonesia. The use of durian skin is starting to be sought, especially in the treatment of degenerative diseases, one of which is diabetes. Testing of activity as antidiabetic on durian fruit peel needs to be done. Durian fruit peel fraction was made by liquid-liquid partition which was then carried out to make compounds and in vitro antidiabetic potency test. Identification of compounds in the methanol fraction by qualitative TLC and UV-Vis spectrophotometry quantitatively showed high levels of rutin flavonoids. The flavonoid-rich fraction of rutin from durian peel was found to be effective in inhibiting alpha-glucosidase. The methanol fraction of durian fruit peel inhibited the activity of the alpha-glucosidase enzyme significantly (IC50 of 24) and did not differ much from conventional drugs, namely acarbose (IC50 of 23). This study showed that the methanol fraction of durian fruit peel which contains high routine flavonoid compounds has an active ability in in vitro antidiabetic testing.

Abstract

Self-control is one of the personal competencies that every individual needs to have. Good behavior, constructive, and harmony with others are influenced by the individual's ability to control himself. Self-control that is well-developed in individuals will help individuals resist behavior contrary to social norms. Self-control is an individual's ability to inhibit or prevent an impulse from appearing in the form of behavior that violates or is contrary to moral standards. Self-control as organizing, guiding, regulating, and directing forms of behavior that can lead individuals to positive consequences. According to the researcher, istighfar is suitable for the client because of the meaning of asking for forgiveness from all mistakes. The problem experienced by the client is one of the mistakes, namely (cursing at his friends). This Istighfar also mentions that God is the best of human guardians. Someone asks forgiveness from Allah and asks for protection and care to protect him from bad and despicable traits. Istighfar is very important for humans. Not only because humans have a more excellent opportunity to sin, but also because Allah SWT repeatedly commands both through His words in the Qur'an and the mouth of His messenger (Rasulullah SAW).

Abstract

The high health risks of working as fishermen increase the potential for health seeking behavior of fishermen. Health seeking behavior is also applied by the Puger community, which is a southern coastal area in Jember Regency, although based on a preliminary study not a few of them ignore their health problems. This type of research is a quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 110 respondents was taken by simple random sampling from a population of 5247 fishermen and domiciled in Mandaran Hamlet and Krajan Hamlet, Puger Wetan Village, Puger District, Jember Regency. The resulting data were tested using logistic regression. The result showed that trust has a significant effect with p <α value of 0.000 <0.05. Someone who has a belief in modern medicine tends to have a 21.333 greater influence in determining treatment seeking behavior compared to respondents who have a belief in traditional medicine. Suggestions need to be explored more deeply in each type of belief in fisherman's health seeking behavior using qualitative methods.and health promotion on safe treatment seeking behavior for fisherman's health.

Abstract

Working memory is part of cognitive function relates to the learning process and associates human behavior with the nervous system. Stress can cause a disruption to the body's homeostasis system. Monday-Thursday fasting can be used to counter the negative effects of stress by inhibiting stress mediators pathways. This study aims to prove that monday-thursday fasting can maintain working memory function after getting acute stress.  This study was quasi experimental with post test only control group design in 124 medical  students of  Sebelas Maret University, aged 18-25 years, normal BMI, and not taking corticosteroid or psychopharmaceutical drugs. Samples were taken by purposive sampling method divided into 4 groups. The control did not get treatment, treatment group 1 (TG1) was given acute stress induction in the form of academic examinations, sing a song stress test (SSST), and arithmetic test, treatment group 2 (TG2) carried out fasting at least 3 months and was given acute stress induction. Dependent variables are Monday-thursday fasting and acute stressors in the form of nominal categorical data. Independent variables in the form of working memory measured using digit-span tests in the form of numerical-interval data. Measurements of working memory were carried out simultaneously in the tutorial room after each group received treatment. Working memory data were analyzed by MANOVA and Bonferroni tests (a = 0.05). The highest working memory is found in TG2 followed by control, and TG1. The results of the MANOVA test showed significant differences between the four groups with p = 0,000. The Bonferroni test results show significant differences between the control-TG1 and TG1-TG2 with each p <0.05. Fasting on Mondays-Thursdays activity can maintain a working memory function when the body gets acute stress.

Abstract

Non-communicable disease prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia. One of the top 10 causes of death is non-communicable disease, and diabetes mellitus is on the list. Genetics, advanced age, obesity, stress, hypertension, smoking, and physical inactivity are risk factors that might result in diabetes mellitus. Despite advancements in mainstream anti-diabetic treatment, traditional medical practices continue to exist in several nations. Syzygium polyanthum is the herb that diabetic patients most frequently utilize in the traditional therapy of their illness, according to research on diabetic patients at the Health Community Center in Sering, Medan, Indonesia. The research team was interested in figuring out whether bay leaves showed any potential as an anti-diabetic agent based on the previous description. In this study, secondary literature from research publications is used in a literature review with a descriptive method. Several studies have suggested that bay leaves could potentially be used for the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Cupping therapy, known as bekam in Arabic and blood cupping in English, is a therapeutic practice mentioned in Islamic teachings and hadiths. It is believed to have health benefits and is recommended for healing. One hadith state: There are three remedies for healing: cupping, drinking honey, and cauterizing with fire. But I forbid my followers from cauterizing with fire (Narrated by Bukhari). Based on this hadith, cupping therapy is considered beneficial for health and treatment.  The aim of this study is determining the effect of cupping therapy on hemoglobin levels in smokers and non-smokers.  This study employed a quantitative research design with an observational approach using a one-time pretest and posttest without control group design. The research sample was obtained through simple random sampling and consisted of 30 individuals, including smokers and non-smokers. Primary data were collected directly from the cupping therapy procedure, while secondary data were obtained from physical examinations of the respondents. There is no effect of cupping therapy on hemoglobin levels in smokers and non-smokers.

Abstract

Housewives are the "key person" in the use of drugs at home (Handayani, 2018). According to the results of a survey conducted by researchers in January 2022, the percentage of the Nuruzholam Taklim congregation who practice self-medication or self-medication is 69%. The use of over-the-counter and over-the-counter medicines was limited by 63%, which kept the medicine 57% and 58.7% disposed of the medicine incorrectly. The CBIA (Community Based Interactive Approach) program can be a solution to existing problems. CBIA is one of the community empowerment activities that can be used to educate the wider community about the selection and use of drugs that are suitable for self-medication or the use of over-the-counter drugs and limited over-the-counter drugs or those included in OTC (over-the-counter) (Bela & Suryawati, 2016). This study aims to determine the knowledge and skills of using drugs and to determine the effect of applying the CBIA method to increase knowledge about drugs in the Majelis Taklim Nuruzholam. This research method is quantitative research with Quasi-Experimental Design, one-group pretest-posttest. Sampling using purposive sampling method obtained 60 respondents who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Analysis of the data used is statistical test paired t-test and get a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest-posttest values. The CBIA program is effective in increasing knowledge of the Majelis Taklim Nuruzholam Community in Cilempuyang Hamlet.

Abstract

The global Muslim population has surpassed two million, and Islamic principles emphasize accepting teachings from the Holy Quran and Sunnah for theoretical and practical guidance. Among these teachings is the recommendation to seek healing through reciting the Quran, known as 'Ruqyah Shar'iyya.' Despite its significance, medical professionals in Muslim-majority countries often need more awareness of Ruqyah, leading to an overreliance on pharmacological treatments with potential side effects. This study aims to increase awareness among healthcare providers about authentic and updated knowledge regarding Islamic teachings related to disease treatment through listening to the Quran and supplications. Through a descriptive literature review, the research explores critical terms such as Ruqyah, shifa (healing), treatment by Quran, spiritual treatment, Islamic treatment, and supplication in various sources, including the Quran, Hadith books, Google Scholar, and PubMed. While pharmacological treatments remain the primary approach for many diseases, this study suggests that non-pharmacological strategies, such as Quran recitation (Ruqyah) and specific supplications, align with the recommendations of Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ). Training doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers in the Muslim community to incorporate Ruqyah into their practice or involving Ruqyah professionals for Muslim patients can offer additional treatment options. This approach promotes healing without side effects and enhances patients' patience, satisfaction, and overall well-being. Such practices improve quality of life and foster trust in the doctor-patient relationship.

Abstract

Indian Costus species has been mentioned as an herbal remedy for infections in Islamic, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) literature as well. Using the Indian costus to treat disease is one of the cross-cultural practices, just like cupping therapy and meditation. This would mean that it is safe and beneficial. In the saying (Hadith) of the prophet of Islam, it was prescribed to treat pharyngitis and pleurisy (Ahmad et al., 2009). In TCM, Costus root (Guang Mu Xiang) powder is used to treat gastroenteritis and tenesmus (Nystrom, 2015). In Ayurveda, it is used as a spasmolytic and antiparasitic for intestinal disease (Pandey et al., 2007). Among the pharmacological benefits of costus is the antimicrobial effect. This includes the antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic action of the substances to be discussed here. We did a focus on the antimicrobial effect in the three systems, compared and concluded findings through modern medicine to verify the evidence here.
