Abstract

The Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito is the main vector of filariasis and a popular effort to control it in society is by using chemical materials, but they cause toxic effects in humans, so it is necessary to use a repelant from natural ingredients, one of which is basil containing essential oils and proven to be effective as a repelant against mosquito. The objective of this research was to determine repelant power of n-hexane extract of basil leaves and stems against the Culex quinquefasciatus. This study was a laboratory experimental study using a completely randomized design, with 3 replications at 7 time intervals. The extract concentrations were 15%, 25%, 35 % and ethanol negative control 96%, the positive control repelant X containing 13% DEET. The results showed that the n-hexane extract of basil leaves and stems for 6 hours at a concentration of 15% was able to resist 75% of mosquito, a concentration of 25% was able to resist as much as 85.05%, and a concentration of 35% was able to resist as much as 92.51%, the one-way ANOVA analysis showed that the value of p = 0.000 (p<0,05), meaning that there was a difference in the number of Culex quinquefasciatus perching on the black cloth at various concentrations of n-hexane extracts of leaves and stems of basil, while the probit analysis showed that the effective extract concentration at 90% was 31.52%. The extract of n-hexane leaves and basil stems was effective as a repelant against the Culex quinquefasciatus.

Abstract

Moringa leave is medicinal plant type that often used by society. Flavonoid and saponin are the content of moringa leave which have benefit as immunomodulator. Moringa leave using can be more practical and easy to used by making as pharmaceutical preparation. Drying temperature and time have a great effect on the physical properties of granule and tablet manufacturing. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of drying temperature and time on the physical-mechanical properties of granule and physical-disintegrant properties of moringa leave extract tablet by wet granulation method. The research method using experimental laboratory methods is correlational (causation). Moringa leave extract tablet was made with 6 formulations by various drying temperature and time. Drying temperature and time which used are FI 40°35', FII 50°35', FIII 60°35', FIV 40°45', FV 50°45', FVI 60°45'. Each formulation was carried out physical properties test of granule and tablet. The data obtained were compared to the pharmacopoeai and other literature and carried out statistical test. In order to know the effect of temperature using Shapiro-Wilk test, then continued ANOVA test, while for the effect of time using independent sample T-test with 95% confidence level, then continued Turkey-HSD test. The result of the test showed that the differences of drying temperature and time have effect on the physical properties of tablet, namely, hardness, brittleness, and disintegration time. The increasing of drying temperature and time are able to reduce the brittleness, increase the hardness, and prolong disintegration time of tablet.

Abstract

Curcuma zedoaria is known to have antibacterial and antifungal activity, and have the potential to be used as an irrigation solution in endodontic treatment. Endodontic irrigant that is going to be used clinically has to go through a series of research, to ensure effectiveness and safety without adverse side effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of extracts of C. zedoaria with concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 20% as endodontic irrigation on the expression of the proinflammatory cytokine TNF-α on Wistar rat. This experimental study used extracts of C.zedoaria with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%, as tested groups, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite as the positive control, and saline solution as a negative control group. Thirty male adult Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) with an average weight of 150-200 g were included in this study. The dermis of each rat was marked with a circle and 0.1 ml of each irrigant was injected subcutaneously by using a syringe. The evaluation was made 14 days after injection. The expression of cytokine TNF-α was assessed with the IHC method. The percentage of TNF-α expression was evaluated and analyzed by using One-way Anova followed by Tukey Post Hoc test. The results of this study revealed that the highest percentage of TNF-α expression is positive control group (5.25% NaOCl). Furthermore, the higher the concentration of C. zedoaria extract, the greater the percentage of TNF-α expression. One-way Anova results showed that there was a significant difference between groups (p ≤ 0.05). From the results of the Tukey test, it was found there was a significant difference between groups except between the negative control group and the 5% extract group. It can be concluded that C. zedoaria extract 10 and 20% can increase TNF-α expression, but its ability is lower than sodium hypochlorite.

Abstract

Down Syndrome is one of the most commonly found genetic conditions, a chromosomal abnormality that is. It is caused by an extra chromosome 21 in their body. The extra chromosome itself can be a total chromosome 21, or just part of it. Whatever the form is, it leads to distinct physical features along with associated medical conditions. One of the symptoms of people with Down Syndrome is the cognitive problem where all of them would have various levels of intelligence, making the learning and comprehension process challenging. For Muslims all around the world, Ramadhan is the one special month of the year where everyone would fast. Learning about Ramadhan and conducting fasting during Ramadhan could be challenging for children with Down Syndrome. There is no known absolute contraindication for them to fast, but several comorbidities related to the condition might hinder them from doing fasting.

Abstract

Human beings were created by Allah with complex and complex structures and functions. The more we try to dig about the brain, it will never end. Therefore, everything that Allah made every part of us is a sign of Allah's greatness that should be our contemplation together. There is a term that states that understanding how the brain works is the main way to uncover the very essence of human beings. Character (morals or behavior) is the most important thing that must be owned by every human being and we must observe and analyze that the brain is the center of human character. The brain is part of the composition of the central nervous system that works as a center for controlling human activities in the form of thinking, moving, behaving, feeling something, remembering, and so on. Without the brain, humans will not live, like inanimate objects, without any use and potential. If we talk about interactions with the Qur'an that humans do such as reading, memorizing, listening, meditating or contemplating the meaning of the Qur'an, then this will affect the function directly or indirectly even the structure and function of the brain itself microscopically cellular can be affected. Many studies have been conducted to prove how the effects of the Qur'an from listening, reading, memorizing the Qur'an to brain function, especially in terms of brain waves, mental health, and so on. Health effects can be obtained very much before we interact with the Qur'an. If we analyze simply the stages of a person's activity before interacting with the Qur'an also indirectly has a positive impact on the body.
