Abstract

The purpose of this R&D was to develop an English multimedia based teaching media by using Microsoft power point as the demand of 2013 curriculum in the utilization of the ICT in the teaching learning process. The product of this research was interactive media with two different topics. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Kuala Pembuang in academic year 2018/2019. The objective of this research was how to develop English multimedia based teaching media by using Microsoft power point for tenth graders. This research was conducted by using Research and Development Method (R and D) where the product was created and tried out to the subject. The instruments of this research were questionnaire, interview, expert validation, and observation which were handed out to the students, teacher and the experts. The data collected were analyzed qualitatively. The result of the need assessment and the interview showed that both the teacher and students required multimedia based teaching media which are relevant to their need and interest and the demand of 2013 curriculum about the utilization of ICT. The data collected from observation showed that media developed was appropriate for teaching writing descriptive text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the learning objectives of the 2013 Curriculum Lesson Plan made by English teachers who participated in the 2013 curriculum implementation training at LPMP Kal-teng and to find the teacher’s difficulties in formulating learning objectives based on ABCD aspects in the lesson plans. This research used qualitative method. The research subject was taken from the KD 1 and KD 2 of lesson plans prepared by each of the four teachers in one group. Data were obtained by documentation. The researcher analyzed the data on the teacher’s lesson Plan , then the data was analyzed based on the aspects of ABCD. The results of the study show that, the teacher implemented the learning objectives quite well, covering the aspects of ABCD. Even so, the teacher was still having difficulty in formulating the aspects of C = condition and D = Degree where the teacher writes the two aspects for all learning objectives, the C = condition aspect in the lesson plan did not reveal the specific activities that be given to students. The researcher also found that there were teachers who did not include aspects of D = Degree on some learning objectives and difficulties in determining the operational verbs to be suitable for formulating learning objectives in their lesson plans.

Abstract

This research was aimed to develop the mute video for teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text based on the vocational English syllabus and the students’ need. This Research and Development (R and D) was conducted to develop a mute video for the tenth grade students of beauty major. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students of beauty major at SMKN 3 Palangka Raya. The used instruments are questionnaire, expert validation, and observation which were distributed to the students, teacher and also the experts. The collected data were analyzed and described qualitatively. The result of data analysis showed that students required relevant media to their need and interest and the teacher needed to have a reference media in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text to the beauty major. Considering to those result, the product of this research was the two mute videos of descriptive text which consisted of beauty content. The result of expert validation showed that the mute videos were valid to implement to the class, the mute videos need to improve on the grammar, visual cues, gap and color grading of the video. The data obtained from observation showed that the mute videos developed were helpful for the teacher to teach descriptive text in reading comprehension. The students were feeling helpful and excited to learn descriptive text using the mute video developed. The teacher also could make the mute video as one of the references media in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text to the beauty major students at the tenth grade of Vocational High School.

Abstract

The research was conducted using qualitative research method with one English teacher of SMPN 16 Palangka Raya as the subject of the study, and the objectives are to analyse (1) the teacher’s use of spoken English in her instruction referring to the Lesson Plan, (2) the structure used by the teacher, (3) the vocabulary used by the teacher. The data were obtained from class observation and interview with the teacher. The result of data analysis and the discussion of the findings show several matters related to the teacher’s spoken language in English class of SMPN 16 Palangka Raya as follows : (1) The teacher’s use of English Instruction was appropriate with the Lesson Plan, which included orientation, apperception, motivation, and giving references; (2) the teacher used English spoken language at first and then followed by Indonesian due to the students’ weakness in English; (3) the teacher used simple vocabulary, which all of them were used to make the condition of the classroom alive and give relaxing atmosphere that the teacher’s utterances could be easily understood by the students.

Abstract

Asking question method in L1 is a promising method in improving students’ speaking in English. This study adopted descriptive qualitative design with the subjects of 31 students of grade X at SMK Negeri 1 Raren Batuah, Central Kalimantan. The main data were obtained from the results of students’ test scores of speaking about procedure text, and the supporting data were taken from the result of questionnaire. The research finding shows a considerable increase in English speaking when the students were asked questions of AQM using L1 that enhanced comprehension.

Abstract

This research was aimed to develop the ICT-based media for teaching English structure on the students at English education Study Program University of Palangka Raya. This research used Research and Development (R and D). The subject of this research was the students from Basic English Grammar class at English education Study Program University of Palangka Raya. The collected data were analyzed and described qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of data analysis showed that students and the lecturer required relevant media to support the teaching learning activity in COVID-19 pandemic. Considering to those result, the product of this research was the E-learning website named swimsenglishedu.com. The result of expert validation showed that the swimsenglishedu.com were valid. The data obtained from observation showed that the swimsenglishedu.com were helpful for the lecturer to teach English structure. The students were helpful and excited to learn English structure using it. The hypothesis testing that conducted to measure the effectiveness of the developed media also showed that there was a significance effect of swimsenglishedu.com at Basic English Grammar Class of English Education Study Program University of Palangka Raya. The lecturer also could make the swimsenglishedu.com as one of the references media in teaching English structure.

Abstract

This research is a digital storyteller compilation project with English-based Computer Information Technology (ICT) instruction to promote the teaching of integrated English productive skills during the Covid-19 Pandemic which was carried out in the Semester 1 Student Class of the Forestry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Palangka Raya University in the Academic Year 2020/2021. The purpose of this research is to find solutions to improve integrated English productive skills in the form of writing and speaking skills through making short films using computer information technology. These productive skills are in accordance with those mandated in the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) Higher Education Curriculum which demands the responsibility of educators to present professional learning to produce quality graduates, and who are able to adapt to their environment, especially in the industrial era 4.0. during the covid-19 pandemic. The Higher Education Curriculum is an institutional mandate capable of producing graduates (learning outcomes) which include new literacy abilities including data literacy and technology literacy. This type of research is a project which consists of several stages, namely: (1) topic selection, (2) design, (3) development, (4) evaluation, and (5) publication. The results of this digital storytelling project can then be accessed at www.youtube.com. Digital storytelling projects are also believed to be able to: (a) make students feel happy during teaching, (b) increase student participation in the teaching process, (c) improve student writing skills, (d) improve student skills in describing places, procedures, and so on. others orally, and (e) improve students' ICT literacy skills.

Abstract

This research was done to investigate the sources of language anxiety in public speaking and to find out the students’ ways to reduce their anxiety among Dayakese students of semester 4 class A English Education Study Program in the University of Palangka Raya. open-ended questionnaire, observation, and interview as the main of the data. Twenty one of Dayakese students as participants. They filled out 9 items of questionnaire and interview was done with 6 items related ways to reduce their anxiety. The observation was done related to students behavior while speaking performance. The result from open-ended questionnaire show that most of the students suffered from anxiety in public speaking performance because of the aspects of self-related, lecturer-related, classmates-related, and the material-related. The result of interview show that students had their own ways to reduce their anxiety which are mental and physical. Mentally, they prepared and asked their classmates to help them speak well by giving comments and suggestions. Physically, they did relaxation and be confidence before doing speaking performance. The result of observation participants went blank and lost utterences during speaking performance. Besides that, lower voice, unclear pronounciation, unnecessary movements, and dry mouth were show students behavior during speaking performance.

Abstract

The present research aimed at finding out how mind mapping using picture series can make students interested in teaching and learning process of writing and finding out whether the application of mind mapping using picture series could improve students’ skill in writing procedure text at class XI SMKN 1 Kamipang in the Academic Year 2019-2020. To reach the aims of the research, the researcher used a classroom action research design where the researcher asked the students’ responses and did action research with the application of mind mapping using picture series for the students to write procedure text. There were 17 participants in the research which consisted of 8 females and 9 males. The present research was conducted in two cycles. The results of the finding showed that (1) mind mapping using picture series made the students interested to learn English writing. Before the actions were conducted, the students were less motivated in the teaching and learning process. After the implementation of the actions, they were more enthusiastic to get involved in the teaching and learning process. They became active and paid attention during the lesson. Besides, the students were autonomous in learning without depending on their friend’s works in doing the tasks; (2) The application of mind mapping using picture series can improve students’ skill in writing procedure text at class XI SMKN 1 Kamipang in the Academic Year 2019-2020. Based on the calculation of the percentage, the students who achieved score 65 and more were 100 %. It was higher than 80%. It can be concluded that the classroom action research was categorized successfully. In conclusion, the application of mind mapping using picture series can make the students interested in learning English writing and it also can improve the students’ writing skill of procedure text.

Abstract

This research was conducted through a descriptive qualitative method to find out the implementation of literacy activities on students' reading of descriptive text of the ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Palangka Raya. The research wanted to know the process of literacy activities in two classes, i.e. the ninth grade room seven and the ninth grade room eight by using observation sheets, questionnaire, field notes obtained from the students’ journals, and tasks of reading comprehension. The results show that: 1) the literacy activities of the ninth (IX) grade room seven and ninth (IX) grade room eight of SMP Negeri 3 Palangka Raya were done at the time of implementation, place of implementation, types of activities, types of the title of description text and follow-up activities as follows: the timing for the implementation of literacy activity was on time according to the schedule. All students carried out the literacy activities and they started recording literacy activities in their journals. The sources of the texts that read by the students were English Textbooks containing the English Descriptive Texts to be read until finish. The process of reading for literacy activities was centralized, i.e. at the ninth (IX) grade room seven and ninth (IX) grade room eight of SMP Negeri 3 Palangka Raya; 2) The description of the students in their reading habits of the ninth (IX) grade students room seven and the ninth (IX) grade students room eight room were written in the field – notes (Students’ Journal). The description included date or day of the literacy activity, title or writer of the text, page of the text, date, and comments written by the students in Indonesian language in based on the Minister of Education of Republic Indonesia’s version and completed with the summary; 3) the problems faced by the students of the Ninth (IX-7) Grade Room Seven and the Ninth (IX-8) Grade Room Eight in SMP Negeri 3 Palangka Raya were stated in medium, hard, and very hard columns about the reading comprehension texts used in literacy activities, and these problems were used as references for the English teachers to evaluate again the students’ reading comprehension of English descriptive text; and 4) from the 26 students’ scores of the ninth (IX) grade room seven and 24 students in the ninth (IX) grade room eight who followed the post-literacy reading comprehension task, there was 4% or only 1 student in each room who has completed and fulfilled the criteria of minimum of mastery or KKM.
