Abstract

Writing is one of the skills students need to write different types of writing. However, not all students have good enough writing skills to use this at school. The problem was identified by the researcher in his previous observations of an SMPN-1 Murung, specifically in 8th grade, on March 9, 2023. Student tasks consist of choosing appropriate words, using grammar (simple past tense), developing ideas, and using punctuation marks. A student's average score is below 60 on the KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal), but her KKM at the school is expected to be 72. Based on this issue, the researcher applied the project-based learning (PjBL) model to help students improve their writing skills in the classroom. The technique for collecting samples is purposive sampling, and the technique for determining control and experimental groups is odd-even technique. The type of this study is a quasi-experimental with pre-test, treatment (using the PjBL method), and post-test design. The sample consists of 48 students of 8th grade from SMPN-1 Murung. Data collection techniques include pre-tests and post-tests. SPSS version 21 was used for data analysis. Based on data analysis, the experimental group had a mean pre-test score of 59.5 and a mean post-test score of 75.75. Finally, based on hypothesis testing, the significance value is 0.000 < 0.05 (sign value lower than t table). From this, we can conclude that Ha (the alternative hypothesis) is accepted and H0 (the null hypothesis) is rejected. Based on the results of this study, English teacher can be recommended using PjBL when teaching narrative text of writing to the 8th students of SMPN-1 Murung

Abstract

Purun is one of the Non-Timber Forest Products that comes from peat swamp forests. This plant grows wild and is used by communities around the forest to make various handicraft products as a side income. This research aims to analyze Purun's prospects as an NTFP to support the economy of communities around peat swamp forests. There are three research locations, namely Petuk Katimpun Village, Kalampangan Village, and Tumbang Nusa Village. The sampling method was purposive sampling, namely people who were purun craftsmen and lived close to the purun growing area. Data analysis uses SWOT analysis. The research results show that the prospect of Purun as a non-timber forest product (NTFP) to support the economy of communities around peat swamp forests in the three research locations is in a strategic position, namely at the cut-off point (0.569; 0.684), precisely in the first quadrant (I). The alternative strategy used is the SO (Strength and opportunities) strategy, namely utilizing Purun NTFPs; creating markets and promotions; increasing Human Resources (HR) through training and forming Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) groups. Based on these results, the policy that is expected is to support the use of Purun NTFPs by the community, by providing counseling, training and outreach so that Purun Purun products can compete with other NTFP products.

Abstract

Translanguaging, as a practice, involves the utilization of two or more languages at the same time for communication among bilingual and multilingual individuals. By incorporating translanguaging strategies into teaching pedagogy, teachers can bridge linguistic gaps for Foreign Language learning in the classroom. However, varying perceptions among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers can create barriers that prevent students from fully utilizing translanguaging. To gain a deeper understanding of this issue, the researchers take initiative to investigate the perceptions of Indonesian EFL teachers at a primary school in Palangka Raya, Indonesia. This qualitative research utilized semi-structured interviews to explore four EFL teachers' perspectives on this topic. The findings reveal a generally positive perception of EFL teachers who implement translanguaging strategies such as student-centeredness, collaboration, contextual clues, and two-way translation in their teaching pedagogy. The results of this research hold significance for individuals involved in the education sector, offering valuable information on how to design EFL lessons that utilize translanguaging techniques to cater to the needs of young (EFL) students.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explored the linguistic relationship between the Dayak Maanyan and Dayak Dusun languages in the East Barito region of Central Kalimantan. Focusing on lexical and phonological features, the research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze 200 glosses from both languages, systematically selected based on the Swadesh list. The glosses were categorized into parts of speech, including nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, and conjunctions. These glosses were compared to identify similarities and differences. The findings indicated substantial overlap in linguistic structures, reflecting a shared Austronesian heritage, while also revealing distinct variations shaped by cultural and geographical influences. These differences highlighted the dynamic evolution of languages within the same region, driven by social interactions and environmental adaptations. This research provided valuable insights into the linguistic diversity and convergence within the East Barito language family, contributing to the broader understanding of indigenous languages in Central Kalimantan.
