Abstract

This paper proposes a comprehensive solution to enhance embankment stability assessment in mining company's tailings management operations through the implementation of Fiber Optic instrumentations. The current monitoring solutions lack real-time capabilities, hindering timely assessment and mitigation of embankment stability issues. Fiber Optic cables provide sensing capabilities to detect vibrations and measure temperature variations, enabling early detection of structural issues within embankments. Real-time monitoring allows continuous assessment and immediate identification of potential risks. Implementing fiber optic cable instrumentations enhances embankment stability assessment, ensuring safety and minimizing failures. Data-driven decision-making is empowered through accurate and real-time data, enabling efficient resource allocation. The implementation follows a DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach, ensuring a comprehensive analysis and step-by-step plan. In conclusion, fiber optic cable instrumentations offer valuable enhancement to embankment stability assessment in mining's tailings management operations. Real-time monitoring, accuracy, and precision contribute to proactive measures and improved decision-making. Implementing this solution strengthens embankment stability practices, safeguards surrounding areas, and maintains regulatory compliance, fostering resilience and sustainability in mining operations.

Abstract

In general, the fiscal decentralization policy has succeeded in reducing fiscal disparities between levels of government and between regions, as well as encouraging improvements in public services and competitiveness in the regions. Increasing regional revenues from balancing funds, the authority to determine expenditure allocations and the superiority of the position of regional governments that are closer to the people are able to increase economic efficiency and allocate more priority spending according to community needs. However, the conditions of each region in Indonesia vary greatly, so that the impact of fiscal decentralization policies on regional economic growth also varies. On this occasion, research was conducted to analyze the effect of fiscal decentralization on the economic growth of the Nias Islands. Fiscal decentralization analysis uses income indicators, expenditure indicators and autonomy indicators and includes the population growth factor as a control variable. This study uses panel data from five districts/cities in the Nias Islands during the 2010-2021 period using the Fixed Effect Model method. Based on the results of panel data estimation in this study, the results show that fiscal decentralization has proven to have a significant effect on economic growth in the Nias Islands.

Abstract

A numerical model capable of simulating the dam-break flow is required to reduce the detrimental impact on the downstream area of the dam. This study aims to see how the characteristics and patterns of flow due to partial dam failure and the presence of an obstacle in the floodplain. In real life, the obstacle can be considered as a building. In this research, a model based on the FTCS method was developed with the addition of a Hansen numerical filter. This model is known as the FTCS-Hansen model. The Hansen filter in this study is used to enhance the numerical of the model and reduce oscillations due to shock waves. The FTCS-Hansen model simulates a 2D partial dam break with an obstacle. The simulation results are compared with other simulation results from previous studies. This comparison intends to see the performance of the FTCS-Hansen model. The results show good agreement between the FTCS-Hansen model and other numerical models. In addition, the complicated dam-break flow characteristics due to the presence of an obstacle (reflection and diffraction) can also be well captured by the FTCS-Hansen model.

Abstract

This study aims to see the consequence of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance on LQ-45firm’s financial risk. This study uses a 23 sample of LQ-45 firms from 2016 to 2020 and applies Generalized Method of Moment (GMM) analysis. The studies find an adverse effect of ESG Performance and firm’s risk. Controversies on ESG also adversely influences the firm’s risk. However, there is no significant effect on board gender diversity on financial risk of the firm. Also, These findings are in line with stakeholder, signaling, Legitimacy, and risk management theory. The firms that perform reasonably on ESG have lower total risk. However, the firm’s negligence on ESG and involvement in ESG Controversies moderates the ESG-total risk nexus. The findings will help investor and portofolio managers evaluate how ESG, ESG Controversies, and Board Gender Diversity influence firm’s financial risk and help them make a better investment decisions. Additionally, regulators can revise the ESG and ESG Controversy disclosure criteria and make them accessable to all stakeholders for better decision making.
