Abstract

INFESTATION OF TICKS ON CATTLE IN TOLOK VILLAGE TOMPASO DISTRICT, MINAHASA. The tick is one of the most commonly encountered ectoparasites on livestock and can degrade its quality and quantity significantly. Risks caused by tick infestation include local skin damage, anemia, paralysis due to toxins, and disease transmission. A research project on tick infestation was conducted for 1 (one) month in Tolok Village of the Minahasa District due to counted the prevalence of tick infestation on cattle, the preference of tick infestation based on body parts, sex and age. The research used the survey method, in which tick samples were collected during the day, preserved in a 70% alcohol solution, and then counted in the laboratory of Faculty of Animal Science, Sam Ratulangi University of Manado. The results showed that tick infestation on cattle in Tolok Village yielded  100% prevalence  (all the cattle observed (n=53) were infested by ticks). Infestation preference based on body parts showed the highest on the crotch region (average 6,70 ticks) compared on  the head  ( average 1,75 ticks ),  the neck (average 5,55 ticks), the back ( average 3,4 ticks), 4,44 ticks on the abdomen ( average 4,44 ticks), and the legs (1,11 ticks). Infestation preference based on sex showed the highest on female (32,05 ticks) compared   on male (20,65 ticks). Finally, based on the cattles’ age, the infestation preference were a average of 27 ticks on calfs and 26,15 ticks on adult cattles. Higher infestation preference was found in calfs rather than adult cattle. Keywords: Infestation, Tick

ENERGY DIGESTIBILITY AND TOTAL DIGESTIBLE  NUTRIENT IN DAIRY COWS GIVEN COMPLETE FEED BASED ON  CORN FORAGE. The purpose of this research  was to examine the value of energy digestibility and total nutrient digestibility in dairy cows which are given complete feed based on corn forage. 14 head of cattle with age ± 6-8 years weighing 300-400 kg were used in this study. This biological experiment used a statistical analysis of the T test with unequal variations (t-test two sample assuming unequel variance). The treatments consists of: Ra (30% Concentrate + 70% Corn forage), and Rb (30% Concentrate + 35% Corn forage + 35% King Grass). The results showed that the energy intake both of treatments(Ra and Rb) were not significantly different (P <0.05) while the energy digestibility and total digestible nutrient of the Rb treatment were significantly higher (P <0.05) than Ra treatment. It can be concluded that feed treatment using of 30% oncentrate, 35% king grass, and 35% corn forage was obtained the best energy disgestibility and total digestible nutrient values. Keywords: energy digestibility, dairy cows. corn forage , king grass.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSTUDY OF CONVENTIONAL INVESTMENT CRITERIA AND ENVIRONMENTAL OF PIG FARMING IN TOMOHON CITY. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of conventional (private) and environment (externalities) investment criteria, which determine the extent of the economic feasibility of the externalities investment criteria taking into account the private costs (conventional costs) and externalities costs (environmental costs) in the pig farm agribusiness. This research was conducted in Tomohon, where the sample pig farms that have business scale criterion of <1,000, 1,000-5,000, and > 5,000 heads. The analysis used the analysis of investment criteria to look at the externalities economic feasibility of the pig farms, with the calculation of Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). NPV of conventionally and externalities was greater than zero or positive, these results suggest that the companies have been conventionally sampled financially feasibility, as well as the investment plan of externalities. IRR conventional and externalities is greater than one, these results indicate that the samples with conventional and externalities investment companies are still profitable, especially if the investment is viewed in the environment, it would be beneficial as it will reduce the environmental impact. BC ratio values conventionally and externalities is greater than one, these results suggest that the externalities investment is feasible for conducting. Keywords :Economy, Environment, Pig Farms, Tomohon

Abstract

EFFECT OF N,P,K FERTILIZER LEVELS ON PLANT COMPONENTS OF BRACHIARIA HUMIDICOLA CV.TULLY AND PENNISETUM PURPUREUM CV.MOTT IN COCONUT PLANTATIONS. In North Sulawesi there are vast grasslands as pastures so that breeders only utilize the existing land in the coconut plantations as cattle raising area. Existing land under the coconut plantation can be utilized or planted variety of agricultural commodities, including forage, where feed was instrumental in the success of  animal farm. In increasing the productivity of forage among others, animal grass needs to be supported by the physical environment, ideal soil and climate. The problem in this research was the area under coconut cultivation had low soil fertility (marginal), so one alternative was given by way of fertilization. Therefore the NPK fertilization is one of the most alternative method to overcome the low soil fertility. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of NPK fertilizer levels on plant components of Brachiaria humidicola cv. Tully and Pennisetum purpureum cv.mott in coconut plantations. This research was conducted in the western districts of Malalayang 1, Manado city from October 2013 – February 2014. Factorial design method was performed on the basis of completely randomized design with 4 replications. The result in this study showed that the influence of fertilization was demonstrated for the macro elements NPK fertilization required to increase the component of leaves. These elements were met the needs of forage for ruminants. Otherwise the rod components of both grass types were decreased by more complete combination of macro elements of NPK fertilization. In term of different types of grass, the statistical analysis showed that the leaves of the grass component of Pennisetum purpureum were 153.87 g/plot, significantly higher (P<0.05) than Brachiaria humidicola. The stem components were not significantly different for both types of grass. Therefore, the results of this study showed that both types of grass treatment elements required the complete NPK macro to get result with higher leaf components. Abstract

PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE OF GROWING PIGS FED RATION CONTAINING CAKALANG FISH WASTE PRODUCT. The study aims to determine the extent of the effect of using fish waste flour as a partial substitute for concentrates in feed on the appearance of grower phase pig production to finiser. Swines are very potential to be developed in North Sulawesi because they have the attributes and capabilities of fast growth rates, high number of litter size, good ration efficiency, and a high percentage of carcass. Cakalang fish waste is one of the feed ingredients that are potentially used as animal feed ingredients because it is easy to be obtained and its price is relatively cheap.  Cakalang fish waste can be processed into fish meal and can be used for animal feed mixtures including swines, poultry and fishery. This research was carried out on the farm belongs to Mr. Cloudio Lumowa, starting with the pre-trial for the 2 weeks and data collection for the 10 weeks, starting on June 14 to August 26, 2017. Research was using 20 heads of gilt and boar with a range body weight of 53-63kg. The research design used was Randomized Block Design (RCBD) involving 4 treatments and 5 replications at each treatment. The treatments of feeding were including R0 = ration without cakalang fish waste flour, R1 = ration + 2% cakalang fish waste flour, R2 = ration + 4% cakalang fish waste flour, and R3 = ration + 6% cakalang fish waste flour. The results of the research showed that the use of cakalang fish waste flour with a level of 2%, 4%, and 6% had a significant effect (P< 0.05) on swine weight gain and feed effciciency, but did not affect significantly feed consumption. Based on the results of the study and discussion of all variables, it can be concluded that the use of cakalang fish waste flour as a partial replacement of concentrate up to 6% in grower to finisher produced the same ration consumption, a good body weight gain and feed efficiency. Keywords: cakalang fish waste, production, grower
