Abstract

This research aims to explore the European Union’s (EU) security policies in the digital culture related to new threats of disinformation. Entering the Russian-Ukraine military conflict in early 2022, the EU believes that European society was facing new threats in the form of disinformation. The EU tightened sanctions against Russia related to the Ukrainian conflict, including sanctions against Russian media. The EU decided to ban the broadcast of Russian TV and Radio stations RT and Sputnik, as well as closing their offices in several EU member countries. This step was taken because the EU accused both media outlets of spreading disinformation and pro-Kremlin propaganda related to the conflict in Ukraine. The research was conducted using a qualitative method. Two theories were used in this research, namely Securitization Theory by Barry Buzan and Communicative Action Theory by Jurgen Habermas. Through Securitization Theory, researchers explore the EU’s action in constructing Russian media outlets as a threat to regional and global security and stability. Using Communicative Action Theory, researchers analyzes the EU’s actions in using certain communication and narratives to justify its policy towards Russian media outlets, and through this theory, researchers also question the legitimacy of the ban. The preliminary findings of this research show that the EU ban is controversial. Many parties accused the EU of restricting freedom of speech and limit the freedom of press. On the other hand, the EU maintains that this step is necessary to combat propaganda and disinformation, which are considered threats to national security and the integrity of the democracy in the EU

Abstract

Translation is a crucial aspect of cross-cultural communication, which involves not only the conversion of words from one language to another but also the preservation of cultural nuances and literary elements, which are pivotal to maintaining the literary and communicative integrity of a text across languages. Translation, as a critical aspect of cultural communication, is critical for maintaining the beauty and intended meaning of the original author. In this study, a novel titled Kesatria, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh, was translated from Bahasa Indonesia into English using six different translation techniques. The findings show that modulation, paraphrase, and established equivalent do not impact accuracy, acceptability, and readability, as they effectively preserved the original meaning. These findings highlight the importance of flexibility and creativity in translation, as translators must navigate cultural and linguistic differences while striving to preserve the original intent and emotional resonance of the source material. This study aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on effective literary translation practices and enhance the appreciation of metaphorical language across cultures.

Abstract

This study raises the role of the sound of the letter "q" in Mandar, especially when it is in the middle and end of the word. The Mandar language, which lives and is used by the people of West Sulawesi, has characteristics that are often misunderstood by non-Mandar speakers. One of the most common mistakes is to replace the sound of the letter "q", which is actually a glottal stop, with the sound of "k", which results in a significant shift in meaning. This study aims to reveal the importance of correct understanding of the pronunciation of glottal stops, especially in the context of the Mandar language. Through a qualitative descriptive method, this study collected data from native speakers and the Great Dictionary of Mandarin-Indonesian Language, to analyze words containing the letter "q". The results of the study show that the sound of glottal stop is very crucial in maintaining the authenticity of the meaning and understanding of a word in Mandar. With a collection of 55 words, the study highlights the urgency of preserving the correct way of pronunciation to avoid misunderstandings among non-native speakers. This research not only contributes to the development of linguistics, but also supports efforts to revitalize the Mandar language, which is now endangered. By understanding the sound of this glottal stop, it is hoped that news anchors, journalists, and the general public can better appreciate and use the Mandar language appropriately, so that this regional language remains alive and developing.

Abstract

The rapid growth of urbanization and increased health awareness among consumers in Pangkalpinang City have led to a growing interest in hydroponic vegetables. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing consumer purchasing decisions for hydroponic vegetables in Pangkalpinang. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 170 respondents through surveys, focusing on economic social, psychological factors, and marketing stimuli. The research employed Particial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling analysis to identify significant predictors of purchasing decisions. The direct effects analysis indicates that perception (p-value = 0.004), attitude (p-value = 0.001), product quality (p-value = 0.000), and income (p-value = 0.000) significantly influence purchasing decisions, while motivation (p-value = 0.464) and price (p-value = 0.644) do not have a significant effect. The indirect effects analysis shows that price influences purchasing decisions through perception (p-value = 0.000) but not through motivation (p-value = 0.567). Similarly, product quality impacts purchasing decisions through perception (p-value = 0.006), while its indirect effect through motivation is insignificant (p-value = 0.425). These findings suggest that product quality and consumer perception play crucial roles, while price exerts an indirect influence to purchasing decision. This research provides essential insights for hydroponic entrepreneurs, emphasizing the importance of enhancing product quality and consumer perception to improve market strategies.

Abstract

The legal dilemma surrounding abortion regulation for rape victims in Indonesia is a complex issue that involves moral, social, and legal aspects. In Indonesian law, Articles 299 and 346 of the Penal Code regulate abortion, while Law No. 36 of 2009 concerning Health provides provisions regarding emergency situations where abortion may be justified. This study aims to analyze these regulations from the perspective of justice, considering the rights of rape victims and the social impacts of abortion prohibitions. The research method utilized in this study is normative juridical methodology, also known as library research. Normative juridical research focuses on secondary data sources as the main reference. This secondary data consists of primary legal materials, secondary legal materials, and tertiary legal materials. The results indicate that although there are legal foundations, the implementation of abortion regulations for rape victims still faces challenges in achieving justice and protecting women's rights.

Abstract

The reorientation of policies related to Abandonment and Site Restoration (ASR) in the oil and gas industry is an important step to ensure environmental sustainability post-operation. This research aims to evaluate the implementation of ASR policies in Indonesia, regulated under Law No. 22 of 2001 on Oil and Gas and Government Regulation No. 27 of 2012 concerning Environmental Permits. The methodology used includes qualitative analysis of existing regulations, in-depth interviews with stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, and case studies of several companies that have implemented ASR practices. By focusing on the aspect of corporate responsibility in site recovery after operational activities, this research identifies the challenges faced by businesses in implementing sustainable ASR practices. The findings indicate the need for a review of existing regulations to align with sustainability principles and environmental protection. Recommendations for policy improvement include strengthening oversight, developing clear technical guidelines, and increasing local community engagement in the restoration process. It is expected that this policy reorientation can enhance corporate accountability and protect the environment, providing positive impacts for communities and ecosystems surrounding operational sites.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the management of Seized Collateral (AYDA) and auction procedures applied by banks in dealing with non-performing loans. Through a normative juridical approach, this study explores the impact of AYDA on market value and bank liquidity, as well as the challenges faced in the auction execution, including low buyer participation and bureaucratic constraints. The results show that effective management of AYDA can reduce the level of Non-Performing Loan (NPL), while optimal auction procedures can maximize collateral value and minimize the risk of losses. Policy recommendations are proposed to enhance the effectiveness of AYDA management and formulate more efficient auction procedures, with the hope of contributing positively to bank financial stability and the economy.
