Abstract

The Colleague School Expedition Program assistance organized by Yatim Mandiri Mojokerto aims to educate about bullying and violence in the elementary school environment. The method used in this activity is Participatory Action Research (PAR) with stages of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Socialization is carried out through interactive discussions, fun games, educational videos, and role simulations to increase students' understanding of the types of bullying and how to prevent it. This mentoring was attended by all 185 Karangkedawang Elementary School students. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of bullying, demonstrated by a positive response to the material presented and instilling a commitment to students to create a school environment that is free from bullying. It is hoped that this assistance will become a model in efforts to prevent bullying in other schools and become a basis for developing school policies that are more concerned with student welfare.

Abstract

The proliferation of extremist religious doctrines has made the reinforcement of moderate Islamic literacy a strategic imperative, particularly for senior santri who are on the threshold of engaging with wider social and academic environments. This program for strengthening moderate Islamic literacy is designed to deepen the santri comprehension of the principles and values of Islamic moderation through a systematic study of Risalat al-Kawakib al-Lamma‘ah authored by KH Abul Fadhol, to cultivate advanced critical thinking capacities, and to solidify their commitment to the ethos of religious moderation. The program involved senior santri from Madrasah Aliyah Unggulan KH Wahab Hasbullah, Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas, Jombang. A service-learning approach was adopted as the primary methodological framework, implemented across three sequential phases: pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation. The learning activities were conducted through structured textual analysis and participatory, dialogical discussions. The findings demonstrate a substantive increase in the santri conceptual understanding of moderate Islam as articulated in Risalat al-Kawakib al-Lamma‘ah, alongside measurable improvements in their critical reasoning skills and a strengthened normative commitment to the practice of religious moderation.

Abstract

The waste problem in Karangsari Village is still an important issue because there is no structured management system and there are still traditional practices such as burning and dumping waste in the open. To answer this challenge, Thematic PKM 63 Group 11 students implemented an ecology-based waste sodaqoh program as a strategy to strengthen environmental awareness based on religious values. This approach interprets waste management as part of human worship and spiritual responsibility as caliphs on earth. This service research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a participatory approach through three stages, namely socialization, education and implementation. Students were directly involved in mapping initial conditions, ecological counseling, assistance in sorting waste, and establishing a waste sodaqoh post as a center for collecting inorganic waste. The results of these activities show a significant increase in community knowledge and participation in waste management. An ecotheological approach makes it easier for people to accept programs, because it is in line with the religious values they believe in. People are starting to get used to sorting waste, reducing burning, and understanding that protecting the environment is part of their faith. This program also encourages the formation of a new culture that integrates religious values and ecological action, so that it has the potential to become a model for sustainable environmental empowerment in other villages.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to optimize the development of batik motifs through the diffusion of innovation approach among artisans in Bawangan Village, Jombang Regency, East Java. The main challenges included limited motif variation, the use of synthetic dyes that pollute the environment, and weak access to digital markets. The project was implemented using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, emphasizing active artisan participation in problem identification, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The results indicated improved design skills with the creation of eight new motifs inspired by local flora and fauna, a 30% reduction in synthetic dye usage through the adoption of eco-friendly dyes, and enhanced digital promotion capacity that generated external orders. Pre–post evaluation showed a 52% increase in artisans’ design comprehension. This project highlights the importance of collaboration among universities, local government, and artisan communities to strengthen cultural identity and enhance the global competitiveness of batik.

Abstract

Agriculture is a vital sector in Gunung Gede Village, Wonotirto District, Blitar Regency, but faces labor constraints due to the migration of productive age groups and water availability constraints due to the hilly geographical conditions. The traditional irrigation system still in use tends to be wasteful of energy and water, resulting in low efficiency in horticultural plant care. This study aims to develop and implement an infusion-based irrigation innovation as a simple, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly solution to improve water and labor efficiency. The method used is a participatory approach through the Community Service (PkM) program, including land surveys, consultations with farmer groups, tool design, outreach, and direct field practice. The implementation results show that the infusion system can save water use by 30–40%, reduce dependence on labor, and improve the consistency of water and nutrient delivery to plants. In addition, this innovation increases farmer enthusiasm and has the potential to attract the younger generation to become involved in the agricultural sector. In conclusion, infusion-based agro-innovation is effective as an adaptive solution to support water-efficient agriculture in hilly areas and has the potential to be developed sustainably.

Abstract

This activity aims to illustrate the implementation of the literacy festival model applied at Sendang Wonotunggal Public Elementary School. This activity is important to implement considering that preliminary studies indicate that student interest in literacy activities is relatively low. This is evident from the results of initial interviews, where 32% of students showed active reading, while only 28% completed writing assignments consistently. To address this issue, the mentoring team presented the idea of a community-based Literacy Festival that utilizes an action research cycle approach with three main stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The collected data was analyzed interactively using the Mills and Huberman approach, with a systematic process of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the literacy festival model was implemented through four series of activities: storytelling practice, creative writing practice, literacy quizzes, and language games, provided to second-, fourth-, and sixth-grade students at Sendang State Elementary School. These mentoring activities significantly assisted teachers and students in exploring and understanding literacy practices that foster language skills in students.

Abstract

The community service program in Kampung Mayak, Mayak Village, Curugbitung Subdistrict, was implemented in response to the community's limited access to technology and suboptimal understanding of technology, health, and environmental management. This activity aims to increase the basic knowledge capacity of students and the community through the implementation of integrated socialization designed systematically. Community service partners included early childhood education centers, kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, and the Mayak Village community. The implementation method used a participatory, interactive, and collaborative approach with the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method through health demonstrations, creative garden creation, basic computer training, tutoring, afternoon exercises, and village mutual assistance. Evaluation was conducted after direct observation, independent practice, and brief question and answer sessions to measure participants' understanding and behavioral changes. The results showed an increase in the fine motor skills of PAUD children, the habit of clean living among kindergarten and elementary school students, the strengthening of environmental literacy through the recycling of used bottles, and an increase in digital literacy among junior high school students. Collaborative activities also strengthened social interaction and community awareness of health and environmental hygiene. Overall, the integrated socialization model was effective in integrating technology, health, and environmental aspects. These findings are significant because they present realistic, applicable, and potentially sustainable empowerment practices for schools and the Mayak Village community.

Abstract

Based on the results of a preliminary observation, the activities of Majelis Taklim Miftahul Ulum in Sulai Village, which were previously conducted once a month, have not been active in recent months. This community engagement program aimed to enhance participants’ understanding through practical mentoring on the procedures of thaharah (ritual purification), as well as to foster religious awareness and spiritual responsibility among the women members of the majelis taklim regarding the importance of maintaining both physical and spiritual purity as the fundamental foundation of worship. This mentoring activity employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which integrates research, action, and direct community participation in a cyclical process to address problems and empower the community. The implementation of this community service program adopted participatory and educational approaches. The results indicated that, prior to the mentoring program, the level of understanding among the women members of Majelis Taklim Miftahul Ulum in Sulai Village regarding the concept and procedures of thaharah was relatively low. The implementation of the mentoring program had a positive impact on improving the quality of their religious practices. This impact was evident not only in the technical aspects of worship performance but also in changes in attitudes, increased spiritual awareness, and the strengthening of women’s roles in fostering religious life within their families.

Abstract

This article is the result of my community service at the Darussalam Puncak Islamic Boarding School, under the guidance of Kyai Malik. In this community service, I attempted to provide mentoring to the Real Work School (SKN), a social institution that provides entrepreneurship education to the boarding school's students. The goal of this mentoring was to strengthen the institutional governance of the SKN, which was not yet well-organized and stable, resulting in many of its programs being unsustainable. Initially, I planned to use the ABCD method in this mentoring. However, after delving into the social reality of the group I was mentoring, I felt that the ABCD method was not entirely suitable for this community, due to the unequal social relations between them, particularly between Kyai Malik and his students. Therefore, in this mentoring, I synthesized the ABCD method with a developmentalist perspective. While my mentoring is not yet complete, it has already resulted in quite positive changes. Currently, the institutional governance of the SKN is starting to be well-organized. The National Science and Technology Education (SKN) now has a well-structured entrepreneurship curriculum, consisting of two main learning activities: practice-based entrepreneurship learning and counseling-based learning.
