Abstract

This study examines the impact of toll roads on regional growth, specifically focusing on the Ciledug District, which has been crossed by the Palikanci Toll Road since 2009. The research identifies the typology of urbanization and assesses changes in the area’s economic structure due to the toll road. A mixed method approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection, land change analysis via Google Earth and ArcGis 13.1, and field observations of land use. The findings reveal gentrification in the northern part of Ciledug, marked by the growth of business centers in Jatiseeng and rising land prices. This has led to the expansion of settlements toward the southern area, particularly in Jatiseeng Kidul. The toll road and the industrial estate in North Ciledug have accelerated the transformation of the local economy, with residents diversifying their livelihoods to adapt to urbanization. However, the study also notes a lack of improvement in essential infrastructure services, suggesting that regional development policies have not yet adapted to the gentrification, posing risks of urban sprawl.

Abstract

Implementing Transit Oriented Development (TOD) areas is an effort to overcome problems in urban areas due to rapid growth over time. These problems cause difficulties in mobility and land use, followed by traffic congestion, increased pollution, and accessibility that is not maximized. Therefore, the implementation of TOD is needed to support more sustainable movement in urban areas, especially in cities that have the potential to implement TOD. This study aims to discover the principles of TOD in a metropolitan area and the development strategies and recommendations that can be made to turn a metropolitan area into a TOD area. The method used in this research is the scoring method based on the TOD principles of ITDP standard 2017 and field observation activities. SWOT analysis was then conducted to determine the development strategy and recommendations that can be made. The research results at the study location still need to be included in the TOD area, where the study only scored 52 points. Efforts that can be made include adding recommendations for walking and cycling infrastructure at the study location so that it scores 66 points, which is included in the bronze category as a TOD area.

Abstract

Traffic congestion is a persistent global issue, particularly in densely populated cities like Bandung, Indonesia. The construction of an underpass offers a potential solution to reduce congestion at high-density intersections, such as the Cibiru Roundabout, which connects JL. Soekarno-Hatta, JL. Cibiru, and JL. A.H Nasution. This research analyzes traffic performance and assesses the feasibility of implementing an underpass at this location. A quantitative descriptive research method was used, with data collected through field measurements of vehicle volume and speed. The analysis followed the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023 to evaluate capacity, degree of saturation, and service level. Using PTV VISSIM software, simulations were conducted to project traffic conditions over the next ten years, considering a 5% annual growth rate. Results indicate significant congestion, with service levels reaching "F" across various segments. Simulation outcomes suggest that an underpass would improve traffic flow by increasing capacity, reducing delays, and shortening queues. This study provides a valuable reference for urban planners seeking effective interventions in other cities facing similar traffic challenges.

Abstract

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a zoonotic disease caused by MERS-CoV, a beta coronavirus with a mortality rate of approximately 35%. The disease exhibits a wide range of clinical symptoms, from mild respiratory issues to severe conditions like multi-organ failure and pneumonia. Person-to-person transmission has led to significant hospital and community outbreaks, underscoring the urgent need for effective infection control measures. This study explores MERS-CoV's epidemiology, pathogenesis, and transmission dynamics, aiming to enhance understanding of its replication, spread, and control strategies due to limited pharmaceutical interventions. A comprehensive review of current literature was conducted, focusing on epidemiological data, genetic characteristics, and transmission patterns across affected regions, including the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and North America. Findings indicate that MERS-CoV originated from recombination events in the spike protein of African dromedaries and spread to the Arabian Peninsula via camels. The virus affects not only humans but also domestic animals like sheep, cattle, horses, and pigs, with global transmission facilitated by travelers, resulting in outbreaks in Asia and North America. Despite extensive research, no effective vaccines, antiviral drugs, or immune therapies control MERS-CoV. The findings emphasize the high pandemic potential of MERS-CoV due to its mortality rate and lack of effective treatments, highlighting the need for strict infection control and further research into viable therapeutic options.

Abstract

The demands of balancing professional and academic responsibilities present unique challenges for Master’s students who work while pursuing higher education, often resulting in increased job stress and varied impacts on learning motivation. This study investigates how job level and job stress influence the learning motivation of Master's students in Management at Harapan Bangsa Business School, focusing on students from the 2023-2024 cohort. A quantitative approach was used, employing structured questionnaires to collect data from a sample of 120 students in Bandung between July and November 2024. The analysis, conducted through multiple regression, revealed that job level significantly positively affects learning motivation, with students in higher positions exhibiting greater motivation to succeed academically. In contrast, job stress did not show a statistically significant effect on learning motivation, indicating that its impact may vary based on individual resilience and role-specific factors. These results suggest that learning motivation is more closely tied to job level than job stress. The study provides valuable insights for educational institutions aiming to enhance motivation among working students by promoting autonomy and competency support, aligning with Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory. Institutions can better support students' academic success across different job levels by focusing on strategies that increase student autonomy and skill-building opportunities.
