Abstract

As the largest Muslim country in the world, Indonesia is a potential producer market. To maintain and increase consumer confidence in a product is the quality of service. One of the strategies used by business actors, including banks, is implementing an Islamic branding strategy, namely using an Islamic identity in marketing their products. This study examines the effect of service quality on saving decisions with Islamic branding as a moderating variable. This type of quantitative research uses a sample of 94 respondents. The data were collected using a cross-sectional questionnaire distributed. While, statistical testing of research data uses PLS-based Structural Equation Modeling. The study’s results support the first hypothesis that the service quality variable significantly affects saving decisions. While the second hypothesis is that Islamic branding variables moderate the relationship between service quality and saving decisions. The results of this study can assist business actors in improving service quality.

One way to strengthen the banking industry is to expand externally through mergers. The expected impact on the capital market due to the merger is a positive change in price fluctuations and trading volume of shares on the market, in which the merger makes banking performance more developed. This study aims to determine the reaction of the Indonesian Islamic capital market to the decision to merge Islamic banks owned by state-owned enterprises in Indonesia, namely Bank Syariah Indonesia, which is a bank resulting from a merger between PT Bank BRI Syariah Tbk, PT Bank Syariah Mandiri, and PT Bank BNI Syariah. This type of research includes quantitative research and an independent t-test as a statistical approach to comparative analysis. The results of the study show that there is a positive reaction from the capital market to the decision to merge state-owned Islamic banks. This can be seen from price activity, trading volume and stock returns. This research can provide an overview of the market reaction to an event

Abstract

Ribā is a global humanitarian problem, so it negatively impacts human life. Therefore, the non-ribawī system built by Islam can be an alternative to the global and national financial systems. This research aims to explore the implementation of the sharia system as an alternative or solution to the financial system in Indonesia and its impacts. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with secondary data sources, namely official documents on Islamic economics and official documents of Islamic banks. The results of this study indicate that one of the implementations of the Islamic economy is through Islamic banking. Islamic banking can be an alternative solution to the economic system in Indonesia. In addition, the application of Islamic economics has a reasonably broad impact on society, one of which is that Islamic economics can reduce economic vulnerability due to a decoupling economy phenomenon. Through a profit-sharing system, the Islamic economy makes no distance between the financial and real sectors. This research has implications for efforts to avoid speculative financing, financial market exploitation, and a social environment that only favours the economic interests of capital owners.

Abstract

The monetary crisis that hit Southeast Asia has affected the financial condition of banks –including Islamic banks– so there is a potential for financial distress. The same thing was experienced by Bank Muamalat as the first sharia bank in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effect of the working capital ratio on total assets, retained earnings on total assets, profit before interest tax on total assets, and a book value of equity on the total book value of liabilities simultaneously on financial distress at Bank Muamalat. The method used is quantitative by using an analytical tool in the form of SPSS with a sample of Bank Muamalat. The results of this study indicate that Islamic banks on the ratio variables of WCTA, RETA, EBITTA and BVETL simultaneously have a significant effect on financial distress. This means that the ability of liquidity, profitability and solvency, as reflected in Altman’s four financial ratios if tested multivariate, will produce a reasonably accurate financial distress prediction from the influence of the four ratio variables. However, if tested univariately, some ratios will be dominant. Other ratios will become supporting ratios and state that 32-month banks are in category 1 (grey zone) and 28 months are in category 0 (stressed zone). This research implies that if the four components are combined in the bank test, there will be financial distress. To avoid financial distress, all components must be maintained both in terms of operations, resources and financial condition (distress zone). Keywords: financial distress; Bank Muamalat; monetary crisis; WCTA; RETA; EBITTA.
