Abstract

The College of Education at Eastern Samar State University—Guiuan Campus seeks to cultivate individuals who are globally competitive and value-driven. The researchers initiated a tracer study to evaluate the employability of elementary school graduates from the classes of 2016 to 2019. It also includes the values and abilities acquired and developed during their university tenure. A quantitative design and a descriptive survey were employed to examine the demographic profile, employment status, values, and skills that ESSU Guiuan graduates developed and acquired during their time there. The result of the study addresses the weaknesses and strengths of the curriculum, as well as its adequacy and the quality of the education offered in relation to the competencies required by local and global markets. Also, this study shows that not all BEED program graduates are LET passers but pursued to get  graduate degrees. In addition, the majority of graduates are employed as temporary or contract workers, and the majority of employed respondents work in their respective communities. In addition, skills in human relations and creativity received a high mean score, which the respondents interpreted as indicating a high level of acquisition, whereas other skills and competence were moderately acquired.

Abstract

This study explored and determined the extent of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) implementation in government school institutions in the Sarangani Division for School Year 2022-2023. The 375 respondents from a total population of 6, 042 public school teacher were randomly selected across the 23 school districts. Based on the findings, the hypothesis on no significant relationship between the extent of the CPD implementation and the teacher’s competencies is accepted because of the Pearson’s r-value of -0.081 with negligible correlation 0.118 p-value. However, the hypothesis on no significant relationship between the contributing factors and the extent of CPD implementation is rejected and the model is a partial mediation. Sobel test yielded a z-value of -3.10600817 with a p-value of 0.00189631 that means significant at 0.05 level. Further, three major themes surfaced from the informant’s in-depth interview after an intensive analysis of the data gathered, namely: Limited Training Offered, Insufficient Execution of the Program, and Participatory Barriers to CPD Training. The indicated training need, preferred CPD modalities and pace, as well as monitoring, evaluation, and offering technical support to schools in terms of CPD may be taken into consideration by DepEd Offices. Hence, a CPD Model is recommended to take effect in the Schools Division of Sarangani to address the actual competency gap and relevant training needs for teachers’ professional growth and development.

Abstract

This study looked into the networks of participation and influence (NPI) of a person living with HIV-AIDS to unfold the ways by which attitudes and behaviors after diagnosis are potentially influenced by them. Using a single case study approach and qualitative research design, an anonymized interview transcript was used for document analysis as it featured a person living with HIV-AIDS (PLHIV) who is unbothered by his HIV-positive diagnosis. Narratives were broken down into smaller units that highlighted relationships that played a crucial role in his experiences as he coped with the knowledge of his diagnosis and thereafter. Through thematic analysis, the study found that building a network of a variety of health-related professionals dealing with HIV-AIDS helps a PLHIV deal better with his HIV-positive diagnosis.  Findings suggest that creating a culture where empathic and ethical health professionals dealing with stigmatized illnesses due to HIV can become part of a primary network of support for populations vulnerable to HIV. Creating a NPI may be key to alleviating anxieties that result from HIV infection.

Abstract

This study investigates the perspectives of the Yakan community on their oral tradition, exploring how it is valued, transmitted, and sustained in the face of changes in social and cultural practices. Through interviews with the selected Yakan oral performers and youth in Basilan, Philippines, the study found that traditional stories and songs are primarily shared through informal gatherings and special occasions, and are highly valued as a means of preserving cultural heritage, expressing cultural identity and values, and fostering community cohesion. The study also identified several challenges to the preservation of Yakan oral tradition, including language shift, modernization, and a lack of institutional support. The results suggest that efforts to preserve and revitalize Yakan oral tradition should focus on promoting intergenerational transmission, supporting language revitalization efforts, and promoting institutional recognition and support for oral tradition. Overall, the study highlights the importance of oral tradition in maintaining cultural continuity and promoting community well-being among the Yakan people, and underscores the need for continued efforts to safeguard intangible cultural heritage in the Philippines and beyond.
