Abstract

Oral health is an important aspect of children's growth and development. The high prevalence of dental caries among children indicates the need for more effective promotive and preventive efforts through educational methods that are engaging and appropriate to children's characteristics. This community service program aimed to improve young children's knowledge and skills in maintaining oral health, as well as enhance the capacity of teachers and healthcare workers to deliver oral health education using interactive digital media. The program was conducted in July 2025 within the working area of Rawasari Public Health Center, Jambi City, involving 300 kindergarten/early childhood education students, 40 teachers, and 40 healthcare workers. The methods included coordination with partners, socialization activities, oral health education through animated videos and educational games, toothbrushing practice sessions, and mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation using pretest and posttest assessments. The results showed an increase in children's knowledge scores from 40.00 to 72.80 (p<0.05) and toothbrushing skills from 30.00 to 53.40 (p<0.05). Teachers' competency scores increased from 45.00 to 83.25 (p<0.05), while healthcare workers' competency scores improved from 48.00 to 94.08 (p<0.05). This program was effective in improving children's knowledge and skills and strengthening the capacity of teachers and healthcare workers in supporting the prevention of dental caries among young children.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global public health concern. Early case detection through Contact Investigation (CI) plays a crucial role in interrupting disease transmission; however, limited community knowledge and TB-related stigma remain major barriers in Kasang Lopak Alai Village. This community service program aimed to optimize TB case detection through the KECAPI (Recognize, Record, Examine) educational intervention among close contacts of TB patients. The program was implemented using a community-based, door-to-door intervention involving 40 close contacts (household and non-household) from five index TB cases. The effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated using pre-test and post-test questionnaires assessing knowledge of TB symptoms, contact identification, and motivation to undergo health screening. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in participants' knowledge, with the proportion of respondents categorized as having good knowledge increasing from 15% to 70%. Contact investigation identified a ratio of 1:8 (five index cases to 40 close contacts), facilitated sputum specimen collection from symptomatic contacts, and provided education on Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT). The KECAPI educational intervention proved effective in improving awareness and participation among close contacts in early TB case detection while reducing psychological barriers associated with TB-related stigma, thereby supporting efforts to accelerate TB elimination in the service area of Kasang Pudak Primary Health Center.

Abstract

The lifestyle of Generation Z adolescents in rural areas is increasingly characterized by unhealthy dietary habits, insufficient physical activity, poor sleep patterns, and early exposure to smoking behavior. These factors contribute to an increased risk of central obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This community service program aimed to improve adolescents' healthy lifestyle literacy through health education delivered using creative digital media. The program was implemented in Mudung Darat Village, Maro Sebo District, Muaro Jambi Regency, involving 30 adolescents. The implementation employed a combination of CommunityBased Participatory Research (CBPR) and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approaches, integrated with media-based health promotion. The intervention consisted of educational sessions using animated videos and digital photonovella comics, training on the development of health promotion content using Canva and CapCut, the establishment of the Healthy Youth Forum, and the creation of a physical educational facility, the “Gen-Z Healthy Education Corner,” at the village hall. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and posttest assessments. The findings demonstrated a 50.59% increase in adolescents' knowledge following the intervention. In addition, all participants (100%) successfully developed and published health promotion content independently through the village community's social media platforms. These findings indicate that digital creative media-based health promotion is effective in enhancing the capacity and health literacy of rural adolescents. The program is recommended for sustainable integration into the village health program planning and budgeting process.

Abstract

Community empowerment in the health sector is an effort to raise awareness, willingness, and ability to maintain and improve health. Tangkit Baru Village is a village with a low level of blood donor participation and has not yet optimally implemented P4K (Childbirth Planning and Complication Prevention Program). This community service aims to improve the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women to prepare for childbirth and prevent complications and the formation of a Blood Donor group. The implementation method is through community empowerment (Posyandu Cadres, Village PKK TP and Pregnant Women) totaling 30 people. The P4K program socialization activity was continued with the formation of a blood donor group in Tangkit Baru Village. The results of the socialization based on pre- and post-tests showed an increase in participants' knowledge and attitudes from 63% to 82%. Through data collection and direct examination by the Community Health Center laboratory staff and students, 32 prospective donors were obtained (10 people with blood type O, 8 people with blood type AB, 6 people with blood type A and 6 people with blood type B). Continuous support and mentoring for blood donor groups is expected to ensure donors maintain their health and improve their preparedness whenever needed to support the P4K program.
