Abstract

Introduction: Early mobilization after surgery plays a crucial role in accelerating the patient’s recovery process and preventing complications such as deep vein thrombosis, pneumonia, and delayed wound healing. Despite its importance, the knowledge and participation of patients’ families in supporting early mobilization remain low. Family involvement is essential because proper support and motivation can significantly influence the patient’s postoperative recovery process. Objective: This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and attitudes of patients’ families regarding early mobilization after surgery at Setio Husodo Hospital, Kisaran. Method: The program was implemented through socialization and educational sessions conducted using interactive lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, and direct practice under the supervision of health workers. A pre-test and post-test design was used to assess changes in participants’ knowledge and attitudes toward early mobilization. Data were analyzed descriptively to identify improvement levels among participants. Result: The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding and awareness. After the intervention, 90% of families were able to explain the benefits, techniques, and proper stages of early mobilization, compared to only 45% before the program. The activity also fostered a more positive attitude among families in motivating patients to move gradually after surgery, while ensuring safety and comfort under professional supervision. Conclusion: Family health education effectively increases knowledge and participation in early mobilization after surgery. The program successfully empowered families to take an active role in supporting postoperative recovery. Therefore, it is recommended that similar family-based education programs be implemented regularly as part of standard postoperative care in hospitals.

Abstract

Introduction: Nursing documentation quality remains a critical challenge in Indonesian hospitals, with inconsistencies in the application of standardized terminology (SDKI, SLKI, SIKI, and SPO) affecting clinical decision-making, patient safety, and continuity of care. Microteaching, as an evidence-based pedagogical approach, offers promise for developing nursing competencies through structured practice-feedback cycles. However, few studies have evaluated microteaching combined with 4S framework content specifically for nursing staff in clinical settings. Objective: This community service initiative aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of microteaching-based 4S intervention in improving nursing documentation quality in Asoka Ward, Bhayangkara RS H.S. Samsoeri Mertojoso Surabaya. Method: An educational intervention was designed integrating microteaching principles with 4S standardized nursing terminology. The program involved 32 nursing staff across three implementation cycles over September–October 2025. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention assessments of documentation completeness, accuracy of diagnosis-outcome-intervention linkage, timeliness of documentation, and knowledge retention using structured instruments aligned with PPNI standards. Result: Post-intervention documentation quality showed significant improvements: diagnostic accuracy increased 24.3%, outcome specification improved 28.1%, intervention-diagnosis linkage improved 31.7%, and documentation timeliness (completion within 8 hours) increased from 34% to 78% compliance. Knowledge retention assessed through reflection-based performance rubrics showed sustained understanding in 87.5% of participants at 4-week follow-up. Conclusion: Microteaching-based 4S intervention proved effective in strengthening nursing staff competency in clinical documentation. This evidence-based approach demonstrates feasibility for replication across Indonesia’s teaching hospitals and supports quality improvement initiatives aligned with national nursing standards and accreditation requirements.

Abstract

Introduction: To date, the problem of anemia among adolescents  in Indonesia has not been resolved. This has become a concern for the government because it indirectly contributes to the risk of stunting. In Bondowoso Regency,  the rate of anemia among adolescents continues to increase. This is due to a lack of knowledge about the dangers of anemia and adolescents compliance in taking iron supplements. Objective: This activity aims to increase students understanding of the importance of iron consumption through iron tablets to overcome anemia. Method: This activity was carried out using a combination of the Emo-Demo method and lectures.  The activity was held at SMPN 7 Bondowoso and attended by 44 students on December 7, 2024. The effectiveness of the activity was evaluated by measuring the increase in knowledge about anemia in the form of a post-test knowledge. Results: The pre-test results showed an average of 76,7% correct answers, while the post-test results after the material and Emo-Demo were delivered showed an average of 94% correct answers. There was a 17,3% increase in participants knowledge and understanding.  Conclusion: It can be concluded that Emo-Demo activities with lectures and practice can increase knowledge and understanding.

Abstract

Introduction: The stunting rate in West Java Province is higher than the national average and the highest of the 14 existing regions. Ciamis Regency, particularly Sindangkasih District, is among the highest (Health Office, West Java Province 2021). The process of stunting has been lasting since the pregnancy and it gets worse if it cannot be treated (catch-up growth) within the first 1000 days of life (1000 HPK). Low family awareness of nutrition will have an impact on the health and nutritional status of toddlers. Based on the research result related to stunting, knowledge-raising intervention for health cadres related to nutrition is very effective in increasing the practice of mentoring mothers of under-five toddlers. Therefore, it is necessary to increase cadres’ knowledge and understanding of locus stunting through nutrition training strategies and home plant cultivation as a preventive measure for the nutritional adequacy of under-five toddlers in 1000 HPK. Community service activities aim to realize community empowerment to use local food as the basis for sustainable home food. The targets in this community service are cadres and mothers of under-five toddlers. Objective: The purpose of this service was realize community empowerment to use local food as the basis for sustainable home food Method: The method of this community service uses nutrition training to increase the knowledge, capacity, and ability of village cadres and mothers of under-five toddlers regarding food diversification which is nutritious, balanced, and safe to consume as home plants. At the beginning of the activity, a pretest was carried out followed by the delivery of material, cooking demonstrations, and a post-test. Result: The results showed that there was a significant increase in mothers’ knowledge of under-five toddlers and cadres about the importance of nutrition in 1000 HPK. Conclusion: Nutrition training is a promotive activity, a basis for implementing other nutrition intervention programs, and a basis for a person's behavior.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women remains a significant health problem that can increase the risk of anemia, complications during pregnancy, and poor birth outcomes. Moringa leaves are a locally available nutrient-dense food source that can be processed into various products, including pudding, to help improve nutritional intake among pregnant women. However, limited knowledge and low utilization of moringa leaves in daily nutrition practices highlight the need for community-based education and practical training. Objective: The purpose of this service was to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in preventing CED through nutrition education and practical training on processing moringa leaves into pudding. Method: This public service was conducted by providing health education and a hands-on demonstration of moringa leaf pudding preparation. The activity was carried out at the Bara-Baraya Health Center involving 15 pregnant women with CED as participants. The program consisted of education on balanced nutrition during pregnancy, discussion on the nutritional benefits of moringa leaves, and practical cooking sessions. Skills were evaluated using an observation checklist covering preparation, processing, and hygienic serving steps. Result: The activity resulted in a 95% increase in participants' knowledge after the education session. Pregnant women demonstrated strong enthusiasm and active participation during the demonstration process. They showed improved understanding of the nutritional benefits of moringa leaves, including their content of iron, vitamins, protein, and minerals that support fetal growth and maternal health. Participants also expressed interest in preparing moringa pudding at home as an affordable and nutritious food option. Conclusion: Education and practical training on moringa pudding preparation effectively increased the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in preventing CED. Abstract

Introduction: The increasing elderly population in Indonesia poses challenges to psychological and social well-being. Many older adults, particularly those in social care institutions, experience loneliness, anxiety, and reduced enthusiasm for life due to limited social interaction. Observations at the UPTD Pusat Pelayanan Sosial Griya Lansia Ciparay, Bandung, revealed that residents were often passive, less expressive, and socially withdrawn. This issue led to the development of the SILVER CARE program-an innovative psychosocial intervention integrating art therapy with a cheerful community approach to stimulate creativity, interaction, and emotional balance. Objective: This community service program aimed to enhance creativity, strengthen social relationships, and improve the overall quality of life among the elderly through expressive and enjoyable group activities. Method: The intervention consisted of four structured sessions based on art therapy principles, including puzzle assembly, drawing, coloring, listening to classical music, and lavender aromatherapy. Activities promoted cooperation, self-expression, and positive interaction within a supportive atmosphere. Pre-test and post-test observations were used to evaluate social and emotional changes. Result: Findings showed notable improvements in communication, cooperation, and emotional expression. Participants became more active, confident, and enthusiastic. The program achieved 97% implementation success and produced a sustainability guidebook for partners. Conclusion: SILVER CARE effectively improved the elderly’s social, emotional, and cognitive functions. Its adaptable model offers strong potential for replication in other institutions to promote active, joyful, and meaningful aging.

Abstract

Introduction: Postoperative pain management is a crucial aspect of nursing care that directly influences patient comfort and recovery outcomes. Effective pain control requires not only clinical intervention but also family involvement, as families assist in daily care and monitoring patient conditions. However, limited family knowledge regarding pain management often creates barriers to optimal recovery and increases the risk of postoperative complications. Objective: This community service activity aimed to improve family knowledge of postoperative pain management at Setio Husodo General Hospital, Kisaran, and to strengthen family participation in supporting the patient recovery process. Method: The activity was conducted on October 9, 2025, involving ten family members of postoperative patients. An educational and participatory approach was applied through health education sessions, interactive discussions, and direct demonstrations using leaflets. Educational materials included an explanation of postoperative pain, recognition of pain symptoms, pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management strategies, and the role of families in patient care. Knowledge levels were assessed through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the average knowledge scores before and after the intervention. Result: The results demonstrated a significant improvement in family knowledge. The average knowledge score increased from 54.8 before the intervention to 69.2 after the education sessions. Participants showed better understanding in identifying pain symptoms and applying non-pharmacological pain management techniques such as relaxation, distraction, and proper positioning. Active engagement during discussions reflected increased awareness of the importance of family involvement in postoperative care. Conclusion: Health education effectively improved family knowledge regarding postoperative pain management at Setio Husodo General Hospital, Kisaran. This program is expected to become a sustainable initiative to enhance family engagement and improve the quality of nursing services.
