Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is a serious reproductive health issue in Indonesia, with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection being the leading cause. Suspected cervical cancer cases in Banyumas Regency remain high, including 13 cases in Sudimara Village in 2023-2024. The lack of knowledge of PKK mothers in the village regarding cervical cancer prevention and the HPV vaccine underscores the urgency of education to increase their understanding. Objective: This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to increase the knowledge of PKK mothers in Sudimara Village about HPV vaccination as an effort to prevent cervical cancer. Method: The PkM program involved 24 participants, and the education began with a pre-test. The educational method used lectures, discussions, and questions and answers, supported by visual media such as PowerPoint presentations, leaflets, and videos, followed by monitoring and evaluation. Result: The pre-test results showed an average knowledge score of 49.71, with the majority (76.67%) of participants having poor knowledge. After the education, the average post-test score increased significantly to 78.35, with the majority (79.17%) of participants having high knowledge. Conclusion: Based on the pre-test and post-test results, there was an increase in knowledge levels from before to after the education, with the average pre-test to post-test score increasing by 28.64. The implementation of cervical cancer prevention education through the HPV vaccine among PKK mothers showed positive results in increasing knowledge.

Abstract

Introduction: Complementary foods are given to infants age 6–24 months to supplement nutritional needs that are not met by breast milk alone. Proper feeding can prevent stunting, which is a condition of growth failure with height below the standard for age. Objective: This activity aims to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding the provision of complementary foods as a measure to prevent stunting. Method: Health education was delivered to 20 mothers of toddlers using lectures, discussions, and demonstrations supported by PowerPoint presentations and pocket books. Each session began with the presentation of material, followed by a question-and-answer segment to enchance participants’ understanding, and concluded with hands-on practice to apply what they had learned. The activities were conducted over three meetings between April and May 2025, focusing on improving mothers’ knowledge and skills in maintaining their children’s health and development. Result: The evaluation results showed that prior to education, the majority of participants had a good level of knowledge (9 people, or 45%), while 7 people (35%) had an adequate level of knowledge, and 4 people (20%) had a poor level of knowledge. After education, all 20 participants achieved a good level of knowledge (100%), with an average increase in knowledge scores from 72.2 to 90.38. Conclusion: These findings prove that complementary feeding education is effective in increasing mothers' knowledge and supporting efforts to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is largely influenced by chronic nutritional deficiencies during the first 1,000 days of life, making maternal knowledge and early prevention essential. Health education plays a key role in shaping maternal behavior regarding feeding practices, childcare, and early stimulation. Digital media such as e-leaflets provide an accessible and practical tool for delivering health information, particularly in community-based settings. Objective: This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of toddlers regarding stunting and its prevention through structured health education using lecture methods and e-leaflet media. Method: The program was carried out in collaboration with local midwives and community health volunteers. Activities were delivered in several stages, including preliminary survey, problem analysis, implementation of educational sessions, reporting, and dissemination. The educational intervention consisted of counseling supported by e-leaflets containing key information on stunting, its causes, impacts, and preventive strategies. The target participants were pregnant women and mothers of toddlers, selected based on the needs identified in the area. Result: The activity took place on September 12, 2023, at Posyandu Munjul 1 and involved 28 participants. The session was well-received, with mothers actively engaging in the counseling process. Following the educational intervention, participants demonstrated improved understanding of stunting and appropriate childcare practices. The e-leaflet format was considered helpful in reinforcing the information delivered during the session. Conclusion: Health education using e-leaflets effectively improved maternal knowledge regarding stunting prevention. Strengthening and sustaining similar educational programs is recommended to support long-term improvements in community awareness and child health outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. The lack of awareness regarding the importance of early detection is a key factor contributing to the high incidence of advanced-stage cervical cancer. Objective: The purpose of this service was to increase the knowledge and awareness of the PKK mothers in Sudimara Village regarding the importance of early detection of cervical cancer through IVA examination. Method: This public service was conducted by conducting a pre-survey, face-to-face counseling using animated video media, discussions, leaflet distribution, and knowledge evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The activity lasted for two days and involved 24 participants, aged 20–60 years. Result: There was a statistically significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the average pre-test score of 60.42 rising to 79.17 on the post-test (mean difference 18.75; p < 0.05). The proportion of participants with high knowledge scores increased from 8.33% to 62.5% after the intervention. In addition, the number of participants who had undergone IVA examination increased from 20.8% to 37.5% after counseling. Conclusion: This result indicates that visual media-based education can improve understanding and encourage behavioral change related to early detection of cervical cancer. This activity is important to replicate and further develop to increase the coverage of IVA examination, as a preventive effort to reduce cervical cancer mortality rates at the community level.

Abstract

Introduction: Caesarean section, also known as sectio caesarea (SC), is a significant surgical procedure that often causes anxiety and pain, especially during the recovery period. This pain can stem from the incision wound, uterine contractions, and psychological factors such as stress and emotional tension. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of autogenic relaxation as a non-pharmacological method for reducing pain in patients after a caesarean section. Method This pre-experimental study applied a one-group pretest–posttest design conducted at Goeteng Taroenadibrata General Hospital, Purbalingga, involving 30 postoperative SC patients. Pain levels were assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the implementation of autogenic relaxation. The intervention was performed in several structured steps: patients were educated on the importance of relaxation and provided with instructional leaflets, guided autogenic relaxation sessions were conducted for approximately 20 minutes in a calm environment, focusing on breathing and self-suggestion techniques to promote body awareness and relaxation, and pain intensity was reassessed five minutes after the intervention. Result: The research results showed a significant decrease in pain levels after patients practiced autogenic relaxation. Before the intervention, most patients experienced moderate to severe pain. However, after the therapy, 90% of patients reported mild pain, and no one experienced severe pain anymore. A significant decrease in pain levels was observed after autogenic relaxation was administered. Conclusion Autogenic relaxation proved effective in reducing postoperative pain among caesarean section patients. This technique can serve as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in nursing practice to enhance patient comfort, promote relaxation, and support the overall recovery process.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in coastal areas where access to health services and nutrition information is limited. Fishermen’s wives play a vital role in sustaining household economies and ensuring family nutrition. Objective: This program aims to empower fishermen’s wives through the development of Sambusa Mandar, a traditional local food enriched with protein and micronutrients from local resources combined with health education and entrepreneurial capacity building to prevent stunting and improve family welfare. Method: The program was carried out in four stages: coordination, needs assessment, and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for hygienic sambusa processing;  design and implementation of digital-based promotion through social media and website platforms; training and dissemination, including the use of a sambusa skin-making machine, food safety practices, and business management; and promotion, public dissemination, and program evaluation involving local stakeholders. Result: The program significantly improved beneficiaries’ knowledge of nutrition and food hygiene, increased production capacity from 300 to 600–1000 sambusa skins per day, and standardized product quality through SOP-based processing. Moreover, the adoption of digital marketing expanded product reach and visibility, while health education raised awareness of balanced diets to prevent stunting. The program also enhanced household income and opened new entrepreneurial opportunities for coastal women, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Conclusion: Empowering fishermen’s wives through nutritious food processing and health education has improved family nutrition, reduced the risk of stunting, and created new economic opportunities. The integration of local food innovation, SOPs, and digital promotion ensures sustainability and supports coastal community welfare.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the major non-communicable diseases with a steadily increasing prevalence in Indonesia, including in island regions with limited access to healthcare services. This community service program was conducted on Lancang Island, Kepulauan Seribu. Objective: The purpose of this service was of improving elderly participants’ knowledge of diabetes management, conducting early detection through health screening, and providing education on healthy lifestyle practices. Method: The methods included interactive health education sessions and physical examinations covering random blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Result: The results showed that the majority of the 101 elderly respondents exhibited significant chronic health risk factors. The average blood pressure was 152/88 mmHg, indicating a tendency toward hypertension. The mean random blood glucose level of 140 mg/dL suggested a predisposition to prediabetes and diabetes mellitus, while the mean cholesterol level reached 253 mg/dL, categorized as high. Conclusion These findings indicate that most elderly participants have not yet implemented optimal dietary management and physical activity, further exacerbated by limited health facilities and access in island areas. The educational intervention effectively increased participants awareness of disease risks and complications, as well as the importance of early detection. Overall, the promotive and preventive activities had a positive impact on improving knowledge, awareness, and motivation among elderly participants to adopt healthy lifestyles. This program is expected to serve as a foundation for sustainable community health development efforts in island regions.

Abstract

Introduction: Back pain is common during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Pregnancy-related back pain has become a complex problem, an unpleasant emotional and sensory experience resulting from actual or potential tissue damage. Pain reduction techniques can be pharmacological or non-pharmacological. Applying a water bag or water pillow to the body is known as a "water bag compress." This is done by conduction, where the heat from the water bag penetrates the body and causes blood vessels to dilate and muscles to relax, thereby reducing or eliminating pain. Objective: The purpose of this community service project is to provide knowledge about discomfort during pregnancy and the application of warm compresses using a water bag to reduce low back pain among pregnant women in Somawangi Village, Mandiraja District. Method: Lectures and discussions were used in this community service program. A 10-item true-false questionnaire was used, with a pre-test administered before implementation and a post-test administered after implementation. Result: In the pre-test, 20 individuals (74.0%) had low knowledge levels, and 7 participants (26.0%) were in the fair knowledge level. In the post-test, 27 participants (100%) were in the good knowledge group, indicating that all participants gained more information about how to use water bags and warm compresses to manage pregnancy pain. Conclusion: This community service project demonstrates that pregnant women are now more knowledgeable about using water bags and warm compresses to relieve back pain during pregnancy.
