Abstract

Introduction: Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) are key indicators of a country's level of public health. One of the leading causes of maternal death during pregnancy and childbirth is Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), which increases the risk of maternal mortality up to 20 times compared to pregnant women with adequate nutrition. In Baregbeg Health Center, Ciamis District, the prevalence of CED remains high, with 75 pregnant women affected in 2024, and a stunting prevalence of 4.75%. This situation is exacerbated by limited public knowledge about CED and stunting, as well as the lack of innovative nutritious food products. Objective: The purpose of this community service was to empower Posyandu cadres and local communities to improve maternal and child nutrition through education on CED and stunting prevention, and by developing an innovative local food product, keripik tapelur (crispy snacks made from tofu, tempeh, and eggs). Method: This public service activity was conducted in Dusun Jelat, Baregbeg Subdistrict, Ciamis Regency, through five stages: problem identification, program planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. Activities included educational sessions using e-leaflets and lectures, training for cadres and community members on making keripik tapelur, and evaluation of knowledge improvement and program sustainability. Result: Health education increased participants’ understanding of CED, stunting, and nutritious food processing. The community successfully produced keripik tapelur as a nutritious and practical complementary food. The product was well received and shows potential for further development as a community-based economic activity. Conclusion: Community empowerment through health education and innovative food processing can be an effective strategy to address CED and stunting. The development of keripik tapelur not only improves nutritional intake but also opens up local economic opportunities. This program supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly good health and well-being as well as economic growth.

Abstract

Introduction: Environmental-based diseases such as Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remain a major health concern in several remote regions of Indonesia, including the working area of Puskesmas Iwur. Low health literacy, inadequate hygiene practices, and lack of routine vector control contribute to the persistence of mosquito breeding sites and increase the risk of disease transmission. Promoting Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) or Clean and Healthy Living Behavior and implementing Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk (PSN) are essential strategies to reduce this risk and improve community health. Objective: This community service aimed to improve community knowledge and behaviors related to PHBS and PSN as preventive actions against environmental-based diseases, especially DHF. Method: The program was carried out by the Master of Public Health team from Universitas Strada Indonesia in collaboration with Puskesmas Iwur. Activities included coordination, field observation, health education sessions, interactive discussions, and direct demonstration of PSN 3M Plus (draining, covering, and recycling). A pre-test and post-test were administered to measure changes in community knowledge, and data were analyzed descriptively. Result: A total of 43 participants were involved. The average knowledge score increased from 57.12 before the intervention to 71.21 after the intervention, indicating a significant improvement in understanding PHBS and PSN principles. Participants also demonstrated initial positive behavioral changes, including covering water containers and routinely cleaning potential mosquito breeding sites. Conclusion: Health promotion through education and PSN demonstration is effective in improving PHBS-related knowledge and encouraging preventive behavior among communities in remote areas. Continued community engagement and multi-sectoral collaboration are recommended to ensure program sustainability and long-term impact.

Abstract

Introduction: Women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis than men, particularly after menopause due to decreased estrogen levels, which contribute to bone mass loss. Osteoporosis in women deserves serious attention, given their important role in families and society. The majority of target partners are over 35 years old and there are several elderly mothers. Providing health coaching using the CERDIK strategy offers an effective approach to preventing osteoporosis in the population. Objective: This community service aims to enhance knowledge and skills in osteoporosis prevention, improve health status and fitness by optimizing exercise activities, and provide comprehensive guidelines for osteoporosis prevention to women's groups. Method: This community service conducted in September 2025 involving 23 participants from RT 02 Wadungasih Buduran-Sidoarjo, consisted of five stages. The activities were carried out using an educational and participatory approach through health examinations, interactive lectures, discussions, and demonstrations of osteoporosis exercises. Pre- and post-intervention evaluations were conducted using questionnaires and health assessments. Health assessments including measurements of blood pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature, were conducted 30 minutes before-after the osteoporosis exercise. Pre-post test data were analyzed using SPSS software with the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. Result: There was a significant increase in knowledge (p = 0.005) and skills (p = 0.000) following the implementation of health coaching and osteoporosis exercise. The findings of this community service program indicate that health coaching and osteoporosis exercise are effective in enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills related to osteoporosis prevention. Conclusion: Implementing health coaching as CERDIK (Periodic health checks, Smoking cessation, Regular physical activity, Balanced diet, Adequate rest, and Stress management) proved effective in raising knowledge and abilities. Health coaching combined with osteoporosis exercise represents a comprehensive and sustainable preventive strategy for promoting health and preventing osteoporosis.

Abstract

Introduction: The implementation of standardized nursing care documentation remains a challenge in many hospital units, especially in high-demand wards where workload and time constraints affect nurses’ compliance. The 4S model, comprising SDKI (Nursing Diagnosis Standard), SIKI (Nursing Intervention Standard), SLKI (Nursing Outcomes Standard), and SPO (Standard Operating Procedures), provides a structured approach to ensure consistency, accuracy, and accountability in nursing care. However, limited understanding and practical application among nurses often lead to variations in documentation quality. Objective: This community service aimed to enhance nurses’ understanding and competence in implementing the 4S model through structured training and direct supervision at BLUD Jayapura General Hospital. Method: The program was carried out by nursing lecturers and students from Universitas Strada Indonesia in collaboration with BLUD Jayapura General Hospital. The activities took place from October 10 to 12, 2025, involving 25 participants consisting of 2 head nurses and 23 staff nurses from the Women’s Surgery and Pulmonary Wards. The program included lectures, workshops, group discussions, and on-the-job training. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-tests to measure knowledge improvement, and data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. Result: The average pre-test score was 62.00 ± 8.12, which increased to 86.00 ± 6.47 after the training (p = 0.000). Participants reported better comprehension of the interrelation between SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI, as well as improved ability to formulate nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes. Most participants also expressed that the integrated documentation format simplified their workflow and supported nursing quality audits. Conclusion: The 4S-based nursing care training effectively improved nurses’ knowledge and practical skills in applying standardized nursing documentation. The program strengthened clinical accountability, enhanced documentation consistency, and supported quality improvement initiatives at BLUD Jayapura General Hospital. Future programs are recommended to expand this training model to other hospital units and integrate the 4S framework into electronic nursing documentation systems.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that remains a major public health problem in Indonesia. The prevalence of hypertension among adults aged 18 years and over reaches 34.1%, with most cases being asymptomatic yet potentially leading to serious complications such as stroke, kidney failure, and heart disease. This situation underscores the need for effective health education to control risk factors by improving patient adherence to antihypertensive medication and a low-salt diet. Objective: This community service activity aimed to improve patients’ knowledge, awareness, and adherence to antihypertensive therapy and the implementation of a low-salt diet to maintain optimal blood pressure control. Method: The program was carried out in the Internal Medicine Ward of RSUD Jayapura using direct health education and outreach methods with printed leaflets as educational media. This approach was chosen because it enables practical, clear, and direct communication of health information to patients and families. Leaflets also allow patients to review the material independently at home. Result: The results showed a notable increase in patients’ and families’ understanding after participating in the educational activity. Post-education assessments indicated improved knowledge and awareness regarding medication adherence and dietary salt restriction. The leaflet proved to be an effective, easy-to-understand, and practical educational medium for supporting sustainable health promotion among hypertensive patients. Conclusion: Health education through printed leaflets can effectively increase patient knowledge and adherence to antihypertensive medication and a low-salt diet. This medium supports healthcare workers in delivering consistent and continuous patient education for better hypertension management outcomes.
