Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have prompted scholars to revisit the ethical foundations and philosophical frameworks underlying economic planning and development strategies. Although the SDGs offer a comprehensive blueprint, criticisms have been raised regarding their secular orientation and lack of integration of spiritual and moral values. Therefore, this study examines the integration of Maqasid al-Shariah, the main objectives of Islamic sharia, into the sustainable development framework in order to develop a more balanced and value-based approach to economic planning. The main objectives of this study are to conceptually map the alignment between the five main maqasid (protection of religion, life, mind, lineage, and property) with the SDGs targets, and to propose a practical integrative model in formulating economic policies in the context of Muslim-majority countries. The method used is descriptive-qualitative and conceptual analysis, supported by a bibliometric review of recent literature (2019–2024). The main findings indicate that maqasid al-shariah not only complements the SDGs, but also enriches their moral dimension through the principles of justice, accountability, and spiritual sustainability.

Abstract

The halal industry is one of the strategic sectors in the national economy that has great potential to develop sustainably. However, the growth of this industry needs to be aligned with environmentally friendly principles as global demands for sustainable business practices increase. This study aims to analyze how the Green economy framework can be integrated into the sustainability strategy of the halal industry in Makassar City. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and literature studies of halal industry players and related stakeholders. The results of the study indicate that some industry players have implemented green practices such as waste reduction, use of renewable energy, and raw material efficiency. However, the adoption of Green economy principles has not been evenly distributed due to limited resources, conceptual understanding, and policy support. This study concludes that the integration of Green economy in halal industry management not only improves operational efficiency and product competitiveness, but also strengthens the social legitimacy and ethical added value of halal products.

Abstract

The increasing global demand for halal products demands an integrated, transparent, and reliable halal supply chain system. However, major challenges remain due to the fragmentation of national halal standards, weak traceability systems, and limited interoperability between certification authorities in various countries. This study proposes the design of a blockchain-based halal traceability system with a cross-country framework to ensure the integrity of halal products globally. The system combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology, laboratory testing data, and smart contracts to enable automated validation from raw materials to retail distribution. Adopting theoretical approaches from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Institutional Theory, and Supply Chain Integration Theory, the model includes key actors such as regulators, certification bodies, and digital platforms to support the harmonization of the global halal system through the “Single Digital Halal Passport” mechanism and blockchain node exchange. Literature review and policy analysis from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, GCC, and the European Union show various regulatory, technological, and institutional barriers, especially in developing countries. However, blockchain technology shows great potential in increasing consumer trust, ensuring data immutability, and automating halal verification.

Abstract

The borders of a country are areas that are vulnerable to transnational crimes such as smuggling. This threat is vulnerable to occur in the region as the borders have certain characteristics that pose a challenge to efforts to maintain internal security. Hence, this study aims at describing the single-window law enforcement as an alternative solution for the increasing rate of smuggling nowadays. This challenge becomes even greater when a country has an area with an extraordinarily wide landscape and coastline like in Indonesia. The method that has been used in the study is the qualitative method with library study as the data gathering instrument. Indonesia is one of the countries that has handled transnational crime cases in the form of smuggling with several complex challenges. One of these challenges is the region's borders with long landscapes and coastlines, creating several security gaps. This is well illustrated in the case of smuggling in the City of Batam. Therefore, in this study, the focus of the problems raised are: (1) how to analyze the threat of transnational crime in the City of Batam; and (2) how to detect stakeholders in the field of territorial security related to the smuggling of goods in the City of Batam.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the Kaizen Project, lending, Letter of Credit (L/C), foreign exchange (forex), and capital structure on the profitability of PT Bank XYZ, using Return on Assets (ROA) as a performance measure. Employing a quantitative approach and multiple linear regression analysis with data from 93 monthly observations between 2017 and 2024, the findings reveal that the Kaizen Project, lending, and capital structure significantly impact profitability. The Kaizen Project enhances operational efficiency through process automation and work-life balance initiatives, while selective and well-controlled credit granting contributes to stable interest income. The capital structure, measured by the Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), also influences profitability, indicating the importance of balanced debt usage. Conversely, Letter of Credit and foreign exchange transactions do not show a significant impact, suggesting limited contribution of fee-based income and mitigated exchange rate risks. The study highlights the relevance of strategic internal initiatives and prudent financial management in improving bank profitability, while also identifying areas for further exploration in banking performance research.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically analyze the influence of financial literacy and access to financing on the financial performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), considering the mediating role of financial management and the moderating role of financial technology. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, 30 relevant academic articles published between 2021–2025 were thematically reviewed. The findings reveal that financial literacy directly improves MSMEs' financial decision-making capacity and indirectly enhances financial performance through improved financial management. Access to financing is identified as a critical determinant of MSME growth but is often hindered by structural barriers. Financial management acts as a key mediator linking literacy and financing to performance, while financial technology moderates this relationship by digitizing financial processes, improving access to capital, and increasing efficiency. The study also identifies research gaps, including a lack of longitudinal studies, insufficient analysis of cultural and religious influences, and the need for performance evaluation models that incorporate sustainability dimensions.

Abstract

This research discusses the role of social structure in community-based tourism governance in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi. The main focus of the study is how social actors such as traditional leaders, village heads, and local community groups are involved in decision-making and implementation of tourism activities at the village level. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving participatory observation, in-depth interviews with 50 key informants, and documentation in three tourism villages: Lompulle, Bulue, and Mattabulu. The results show that local social structure is the main driver in maintaining harmony between cultural preservation and economic exploitation through tourism. Tourism governance is not top-down, but based on consensus, mutual cooperation, and deliberation mechanisms. Social structure also plays an important role in reducing conflict and strengthening collective solidarity. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of recognizing local social structures as strategic social capital in the development of sustainable tourism. Recommendations are directed at strengthening community capacity and institutional recognition of village social systems.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how carbon emission disclosure can influences the firm value, with also considering managerial ownership as a moderating variable. This research is conducted on energy sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2020 to 2022. Using panel regression analysis on 261 observations, the analysis reveals that carbon emission disclosure has a positive and statistically significant effect on firm value, suggesting that transparent environmental reporting enhances investor trust. Furthermore, managerial ownership strengthens this relationship, indicating that when managers hold equity in the firm, they are more motivated to disclose sustainability practices that support long-term value creation. The study illustrates that aligning corporate governance mechanisms with clear environmental reporting can significantly contribute to enhancing a company’s market value.
