Abstract

This study explores the linguistic phenomenon of code-mixing between Indonesian and English among Generation Z teenagers. It aims to analyze how the integration of English into daily conversations influences their speaking manners, including lexical choices, sentence structures, and sociolinguistic implications. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving interviews, discourse analysis, and surveys among teenagers in urban areas. The findings indicate that code-mixing is used for stylistic expression, social identity formation, and digital communication adaptation. While it enhances bilingual proficiency, it also raises concerns about language shift and cultural identity. The study provides insights into the evolving linguistic patterns of Generation Z and their implications for language education and communication norms.

Abstract

In today's modern development, poetry has transformed into—and contributed to shaping—songs in popular culture. Song lyrics in popular culture are very similar to traditional poetry, which evolved as a modern expression of a timeless art form. Song lyrics, as an integral part of popular culture, function as a form of storytelling and meaning-making. By retelling human experiences and emotions, they create narratives that resonate deeply with audiences, often reflecting themes of hope, despair, love and redemption. These interactions underscore the idea that theology does not stand alone, but is embedded in the cultural and emotional currents that define human existence. In this context, bands like Metallica stand out as profound contributors. Their ability to channel deep personal experiences and universal human themes into their music not only defines their art but also underscores their connection to the spirit of the culture. Metallica is one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time, and their lyrics have had a profound impact on the genre. This present research specifically examines the theological reflection of Metallica's song lyrics, which requires an analysis of how Metallica's song lyrics contain elements of theological reflection, especially those related to desire, love, sin, forgiveness, and salvation. Therefore, this present research is more focused on the question of how do Metallica’s song lyrics, especially “The Unforgiven”, reflect theological values in relation to desire, love, sin, forgiveness and salvation. The purpose of this research is to find the theological reflection by taking the object of only song lyrics from “The Unforgiven” which was released in 1991 inside Black Album.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of contextual learning in improving students’ science competence at Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Bungo Regency. The research focuses on how the planning, implementation, and evaluation of contextual learning are organized to optimize students’ scientific understanding and engagement. The study employed a classroom action research design conducted in two cycles with 28 eighth-grade students as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and achievement tests, and were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings reveal that contextual learning management through systematic planning, the use of real-world media, and reflective evaluation significantly improved students’ science competence. The percentage of students achieving the minimum mastery criterion increased from 25% in the pre-cycle to 85.71% in the second cycle. This improvement demonstrates that effective instructional management emphasizing student participation, collaborative learning, and authentic assessment creates a meaningful learning environment that strengthens both cognitive mastery and scientific skills. The study highlights that managing contextual learning with an integrative and reflective approach can serve as a strategic model for enhancing educational quality in Islamic junior high schools.
