Abstract

Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah (MDT) is a non-formal Islamic educational institution that has important and comprehensive roles in creating Islamic generations. The existence of MDT in an area is expected to be able to reastore the faded Islamic values in terms of spirituality, morality, and harmony. MDT At-Taqwa and MDT Miftahussa'adah in Mandalagiri Village, Cisontrol, Rancah, Ciamis, are two of the large number of madrasas that still need assistance in implementing madrasah development programs to a betterdirection. This is due to the current condition of the two madrasas, they do not yet have a Madrasah Diniyahcurriculum that is in accordance with the Ministry of Religion standards, there is no sustainable learning pattern, the long and short-term activity programs are not yet arranged, the welfare of teachers is still minimal, and the administration and infrastructure facilities are not yet complete in the process of teachingand learning activities. Given these problems, the assistance of this preparation program was carried out asan effort to improve the development program of the two MDTs in understanding the curriculum, teaching patterns, program activities, and the welfare of madrasa teachers. The assistance provided is the preparation of the MDT development program through internal strengthening, curriculum and secretarial administration. The method used in this program is ABCD (Asset Based Community-driven Development). The results obtained from this activity are the improved of MDT management, MDT assistance in curriculumimplementation, and the increase in madrasa administration management.

Abstract

This study examines translation shifts in verb phrases and their impact on the singability and sense of song lyrics in the subtitles of the musical film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018), available on the Max streaming platform. Based on Catford’s (1965) theory of translation shifts and Low’s (2017) translation song criteria of singability and sense, this study analyzes how shifts in verb phrase structure affect the musical and narrative integrity of translated lyrics. 18 songs from the film were selected for analysis. The study categorizes the translation shifts into unit, class, structure, and intra- system shifts and evaluates whether these shifts preserve or alter the original meaning and performability of the lyrics. The findings highlight the challenges of subtitle translation in musical films and offer insights for preserving the emotional and musical experience in the target language. Keywords: translation shift, verb phrase, singability, sense, musical film

Abstract

Place-name changes in Bantul Regency, Indonesia, often driven by modernization, administrative interests, or infrastructure development, threaten the preservation of local culture by erasing the historical and cultural values embedded in the original names. This anthropological study aims to analyze the impact of place-name changes on cultural preservation and provide recommendations for protecting traditional names as part of cultural heritage. This study employs a qualitative approach that utilizes primary data from in-depth interviews with community leaders, cultural experts, and local historians, as well as secondary data from literature studies, historical archives, government documents, and local cultural records. Linguistic and anthropological analyses were conducted to identify the meaning and structure of place names before and after the changes and to understand the cultural and historical values they contain. This study reveals that place-name changes in Bantul, such as the merging of villages such as Gandekan, Teruman, and Bedjen into Bantul or the renaming of Ringinharjo to Bantulkarang, can lead to a loss of cultural and historical meaning, erode local identity, and disconnect communities from their heritage. The impact of these changes is complex and interrelated, with both positive and negative consequences for social, administrative, and bureaucratic aspects. This study emphasizes the importance of involving all stakeholders in the process of changing place names to maximize positive impacts and minimize negative ones. This highlights the need to preserve traditional place names as part of cultural heritage through documentation, promotion, and protection efforts by the government and community.

Abstract

This research examines English vocabulary acquisition among kindergarten students through nursery rhymes within the Indonesian educational context, integrating psycholinguistic theories including Chomsky's Universal Grammar, Krashen's Input Hypothesis, and Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory. The study addresses two primary questions: (1) What types of vocabulary are acquired by Al-Azhar Kindergarten children through nursery rhymes? (2) How are certain vocabulary types more frequently acquired through nursery rhymes? The research objectives are to identify and categorize vocabulary types acquired and indicate vocabulary acquisition patterns related to children's cognitive development stages. Employing a qualitative approach, this study observed 25 kindergarten students aged 5-7 years from Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Parahyangan Kindergarten, Padalarang, West Bandung, using purposive sampling. Data collection utilized observational protocols, video recordings, and post-test assessments conducted over four weeks, with each week introducing a different nursery rhyme: "Vegetable Song," "I'm Thirsty!" "Fruit Song," and "Open Shut Them." Songs were presented during daily circle time, with supplementary learning activities on Tuesdays and post-test evaluations on Fridays using flashcard-based verbal identification. Results demonstrate distinct acquisition patterns aligned with Piaget's Preoperational stage framework. Concrete nouns representing tangible objects (vegetables, fruits, beverages) and action verbs achieved significantly higher acquisition rates, compared to abstract adjectives which require more complex cognitive processing. Kinesthetic approaches, particularly in "Open Shut Them," proved exceptionally effective, achieving high mastery by pairing linguistic input with physical actions, thereby transforming abstract vocabulary into embodied learning experiences. The study concludes that nursery rhymes' melodic structure, rhythmic patterns, and repetitive nature provide comprehensible input at students' "i+1" level, facilitating subconscious language acquisition through multisensory engagement. Vocabulary development is significantly influenced by environmental exposure, experiential learning, instructional tempo, and developmental appropriateness. These findings validate music-based pedagogical strategies that leverage repetition, physical engagement, and contextual relevance for optimizing vocabulary retention among young English learners in Indonesian kindergarten contexts. Abstract

This study aims to explore student teachers’ digital literacy competence and practices during their participation in the Kampus Mengajar Program. This program offers the skills to apply the technologies for teaching and learning and create collaborative and interactive learning in preparing them to become a teacher. A qualitative case study design was employed in understanding student teachers perceive, develop, and apply digital literacy in real teaching contexts. The data was constructed through semi-structured interviews and photo documents with eight student teachers of Kampus Mengajar Program and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that student teachers perceive digital literacy as a crucial skill in addressing the challenges of education in the digital era. The Kampus Mengajar Program is perceived to significantly contribute to enhancing digital literacy skills through providing knowledge related to digital literacy and utilizing technology in learning. However, challenges remain in terms of limited school infrastructure, insufficient digital training, and difficulties in managing digital-based administrative tasks. The study highlights the importance of integrating digital literacy more explicitly into teacher education curricula and fostering institutional support to strengthen student teachers’ digital competence and pedagogical practices. Future research is suggested to investigate factors influencing digital literacy development and the impact of digital teaching practices on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Unbound. This study aims to identify the structure, connotative value, chosen translation strategies, and semantic fidelity of these phrases to determine how well the English version maintains the intent of the Indonesian source. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research object comprises 71 connotation-rich noun phrases taken from Chapters 1–5 of the original script and their published English counterparts. Data were collected through three procedures: content analysis of the entire in-game script, unstructured interviews with native English players to probe perceived connotation, and a focus-group discussion with bilingual raters who scored accuracy using Nababan et al.’s (2012) instrument. The instruments used were a coding sheet, an interview guide, and an accuracy-rating form. Data were analysed through Spradley’s ethnographic sequence domain, taxonomy, componential, and cultural analysis supplemented by frequency counts. The results show a dominance of subordinative structures (70/71, 98.6 %), with the source text leaning positive in connotation and the target text mirroring this distribution with minor shifts. Transcreation is the leading strategy (52.1 %), followed by literal translation (45.1 %), while foreignization and domestication appear only marginally; overall accuracy is very high (mean = 2.97/3). In conclusion, creative audience-oriented strategies are essential for conveying the game’s emotional nuance, and systematic accuracy checks remain crucial to safeguard semantic fidelity.

Abstract

Assessment in English Language Teaching (ELT) is at a critical juncture, moving away from traditional, product-focused evaluation towards more holistic, learner-centered paradigms. This article synthesizes conceptual and empirical literature to argue for an integrated assessment framework grounded in sociocultural learning theory. Traditional assessment methods, often characterized by standardized tests and factual-recall questions, promote a narrow conception of learning, create negative washback effects, and can perpetuate systemic inequities. In response, this article examines an alternative paradigm rooted in Assessment for Learning (AfL), which emphasizes process-oriented, authentic, and performance-based approaches. A systematic review of the literature was conducted, focusing on key pillars of alternative assessment, including performance-based tasks, portfolio assessment, and the mediational roles of feedback, interaction, and scaffolding. The findings indicate that these alternative methods, when unified under a Vygotskian framework of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), are more effective at fostering communicative competence, critical thinking, and learner autonomy. The discussion addresses the pedagogical implications of this framework across the four language skills, confronts the significant implementation challenges, including the need for enhanced teacher assessment literacy and the reality of standardized testing, and considers the ethical dimensions of assessment. The article concludes that a thoughtful integration of process and authentic assessment is not merely a pedagogical choice but a necessary step toward empowering students as confident, lifelong language learners.

Abstract

The advancement of artificial intelligence technology has sparked a discourse on the future relevance of the translation profession, including the functional position of translators within the public sector. This disruptive phenomenon poses significant challenges to existing human resource planning practices. This research aims to analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on the Functional Position of Translators and to formulate adaptive human resource planning strategies to ensure the position's relevance. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative with a multi-method approach, combining a systematic literature review and in-depth interviews with practitioners and representatives from the fostering institution. Data analysis was conducted using the theoretical frameworks of Strategic Human Resource Management, Disruptive Innovation Theory, and the Resource-Based View. The results indicate that artificial intelligence acts as a disruptive innovation, transforming the translator's role from a producer of translations to a validator of quality and a context specialist. Human competencies such as understanding cultural nuances, ethics, and critical thinking are strategic resources that are difficult for technology to imitate. In conclusion, the future of the Functional Position of Translators lies not in rejecting technology, but in the synergistic collaboration between humans and machines. This implies an urgent need to reform the pillars of human resource planning, from job analysis and recruitment to career development, to align with the demands of the digital era.
