Indonesian language is an important communication tool in the context of international trade. In the field of international trade, there are various terms and vocabulary used to describe cross-border trade concepts. However, it is important to understand that the meanings of words in Indonesian language can develop and vary depending on the context in which they are used. The study of meaning in Indonesian language can take the form of meaning relations. Meaning relations emphasize the relationship and interconnection of meanings in words. The aim of this research is for readers to understand the relationship between the meaning of terms in the field of international trade and the lexical meanings contained in KBBI. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method by collecting vocabulary through the International Trade Dictionary and interpreting it by comparing the meanings contained in KBBI. There are five words, namely basis, bid, blocking, boa, and broker. The results show that there are two types of meaning relations, namely polysemy and synonymy. Abstract

Vocabulary is a crucial component that supports four important English language skills. Vocabulary mastery is more important than grammar. Vocabulary is an important component in the study of languages, and it is invaluable and students must master vocabulary. Mastering a helpful vocabulary facilitates more effective interaction though lacking for perfect grammatical structure. Traditional vocabulary techniques for learning, that usually involve rote learning, are sometimes boring and depressing for students. The effectiveness and motivation of the learning process are both enhanced by the use of relevant media in a learning environment. Effective use of media will enhance student learning outcomes and build innovation. The use of technology in the classroom, particularly using applications such as Duolingo, provides a modern solution for vocabulary mastery. Its fun and interactive way to study vocabulary is offered by the free online language learning tool Duolingo. Students found the platform appealing because of its game-like functions, like rankings and competitions. Furthermore, Duolingo has an element called "Duolingo for Schools" that enables teachers to monitor and interact with students' progress. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the way students will master English vocabulary with the use of the Duolingo application. Using the utilization of Duolingo's practicality, convenience, and comprehensiveness, students can effectively and fun to master their vocabulary. The use of technological advances in language learning goes hand in hand with the increasing reliance on mobile devices in contemporary education.

Abstract

Writing is one of the four aspects of language skills that a person must possess. Using writing, someone can generate interesting ideas and pour them into writing. Writing descriptive paragraphs is also one of the lessons that the school student finds difficult to understand; the mind mapping method is applied to see how the technique influences writing students, especially in the description text. This study aims to examine the import of image media-based mind mapping on the fourth-semester students' skills in writing descriptive text paragraphs. The subjects are fourth-grade students at STIKOM Tunas Bangsa. The research adopts a mixed-methods framework, merging qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine the intervention’s outcomes comprehensively. The quantitative component includes pre-tests and post-tests to assess improvements in students' descriptive writing skills before and after the intervention of image media-based mind-mapping. The qualitative component consists of classroom observations, student feedback, and analysis of written assignments to capture students' experiences and perceptions of the technique. Results indicate that the image media-based mind mapping technique significantly enhances students' ability to generate ideas, organize their writing, and incorporate detailed descriptions. The study highlights the effectiveness of combining visual media with mind mapping to improve descriptive writing, suggesting that this approach offers a valuable tool for educators aiming to enhance student's writing proficiency where students view mind mapping positively, nothing its effectiveness in highlighting critical information from the textbook and simplifying the process of understanding details.

Abstract

Linguists argue women's linguistic politeness is influenced by societal perceptions, but as gender equality advances, the concept of women's language evolves, involving debates on offensive language. Therefore, this study investigated the utilization of offensive language by women TikTokers in the Free Palestine campaign. The research focuses on the study of issue statements regarding the various forms of offensive language used by women TikTokers participating in the Free Palestine campaign. This study employs Battistella's (2005) theory, which posits four distinct categories of offensive language. This study employed a qualitative approach, utilizing data obtained from the transcriptions of three female TikTok users, namely Kayla, Katie, and Heba. According to the research findings, women who use TikTok employ all of Battistella's offensive language categories a total of 223 times in their videos. Among women TikTokers, the term "obscenity" is the most frequently utilized, appearing a total of 159 times. It is followed by "epithets," which appear 30 times; "profanity," which appears 19 times; and "vulgarity," which appears 15 times. This study presents empirical evidence demonstrating that the linguistic patterns exhibited by Kayla, Katie, and Heba, who are female TikTokers, deviate from the conventional characteristics of women's language, specifically in relation to the usage of swearing as described by Lakoff. Kayla, Katie, and Heba exercise a greater degree of autonomy in expressing themselves through the use of offensive language, without fear of criticism or judgment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the metaphor of "beranjak dewasa" in the song lyrics of “Takut” by IDGITAF. Utilizing the Conceptual Metaphor Theory by Lakoff and Johnson (1980), the structural metaphors in the song's lyrics were examined through the mapping of source and target domains, as well as their image schemas. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data analysis was conducted using the distributional method and advanced techniques for immediate constituent analysis, while data collection was carried out through the observation method with note-taking techniques. The analysis revealed five structural metaphors: (1) ambisiku bergejolak, (2) antusias tak karuan, (3) mimpi yang kukejar, (4) mimpi yang terkubur, dan (5) mengorbankan waktu tidur. The image schema depicted from these metaphors is existence. The metaphor of "beranjak dewasa" represents a process filled with enthusiasm, struggle, and sacrifice. This metaphor provides a depiction for today's youth who are transitioning into their 20s, a phase where they encounter a different world where expectations do not always align with dreams or aspirations. The findings of this study affirm the song's message that every young person will inevitably go through their youth and must prepare to enter adulthood.
