Abstract

Higher education is not only aimed at transferring knowledge, but also at forming strong characters in students. Islamic religious education in higher education can be a strong foundation in developing students' characters. Good character is an important aspect in preparing students to face the challenges of life in the future, both professionally and personally. Therefore, research on the development of student character based on Islamic religious education is very relevant. This study aims to develop an effective Islamic Religious Education (PAI) model in building student character in higher education and to assess the effectiveness of the model in practice. In addition, this study also provides recommendations for the development of more effective Islamic religious education. The research methodology involves the development of an educational model based on Islamic religious principles through a participatory approach, followed by the implementation of the model in several higher education institutions. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews with students and lecturers, and observations of PAI activities. The results of the study showed that the developed model succeeded in improving several aspects of student character, including integrity, responsibility, and empathy. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the model indicated a significant increase in student character development that was in line with Islamic values. Recommendations for further development include deeper integration of Islamic principles in the curriculum, training for lecturers, and ongoing evaluation to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the model. This research is expected to provide significant contributions to efforts to develop student character through Islamic religious education in higher education.

Abstract

Project-based learning (PjBL) has emerged as a prominent approach in vocational education, particularly in language learning, as it aligns closely with the challenges of the professional world. This study investigates the perceptions and motivations of vocational students toward the implementation of PjBL in their language courses. The purpose of this study is to analyze students' experiences with PjBL, identify the factors influencing their motivation and engagement, and propose recommendations for improving the effectiveness of PjBL in vocational education. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining quantitative data from structured questionnaires completed by 170 students across three semesters and qualitative insights from Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The sampling technique ensured representation from students with varying levels of experience with PjBL. The findings show that in general, students perceive PjBL positively, recognizing its role in enhancing their understanding of course material and developing critical skills such as communication and collaboration. However, challenges such as inconsistent instructions from lecturers, tight deadlines, and a lack of focus on the learning process in assessments were noted as significant barriers to engagement and motivation. PjBL holds substantial promise for improving language learning outcomes in vocational education. By addressing instructional consistency, providing flexible timelines, and emphasizing formative assessments, PjBL can be further optimized to better prepare students for the demands of their future careers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' cognitive abilities in solving mixed integer arithmetic operations based on Bloom's Taxonomy. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving three students from mathematics education and mathematics study programs. The research instruments included written tests and structured interviews designed to measure six cognitive levels: Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. The results revealed variations in students' cognitive abilities. Student PI was at the low level, demonstrating proficiency in Knowledge and Understanding but struggling with Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. Student JW was at the intermediate level, with adequate skills in Analysis but limited performance in Synthesis and Evaluation. Student AA was at the high level, successfully completing tasks up to Evaluation, although showing limitations in Synthesis complexity. This study highlights the significance of applying Bloom's Taxonomy to evaluate students' cognitive abilities. The findings provide insights into teaching strategies to enhance students' understanding and skills in solving mixed integer arithmetic operations.

Abstract

Legal translation in financial technology (fintech) contracts demands high precision to preserve faithfulness, accuracy, consumer protection, and institutional integrity. This study investigates mistranslations in the English version of the Shopee Pinjam loan agreement, focusing on functional, lexical, and cultural distortions. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research compares the Indonesian source text with its English counterpart to identify translation errors. A total of 72 mistranslation cases were found: functional (41.7%), lexical (38.9%), and cultural (19.4%). These findings demonstrate that mistranslation in fintech loan agreements not only compromises legal clarity but also risks consumer misinterpretation of obligations and rights. The study contributes theoretically by extending Newmark’s typology of mistranslation into a real-world fintech context and practically by highlighting the need for domain-specific competence among translators. It recommends the development of standardized glossaries, regulatory oversight, and collaboration between linguists and legal practitioners to safeguard translation quality in consumer-facing financial contracts.

Abstract

The swift advancement of digital technology has revolutionized language instruction, necessitating creative methods to improve student interest and competency. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well the multimodal approach to teaching English to undergraduate students at FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Barat works. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, information was gathered by means of semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and examination of 20 participants' multimodal projects. The results show that by combining textual, visual, and aural modalities, the multimodal approach greatly enhances students' speaking, writing, listening, and reading abilities. The method also improves student motivation and cultivates multiliteracy abilities, which are critical for communication in the digital age. Nevertheless, issues including the lack of adequate technology and the requirement for teacher preparation were noted. The study highlights practical implications for educators and curriculum developers to incorporate multimodal strategies systematically to optimize language learning in digital contexts.
