Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of compaction levels and paper pulp ratios on the compressive strength of papercrete blocks. The objective is to develop a lightweight building material that meets structural strength standards based on SNI 03-0348-1989. The base formulation combines cement and sand in a 1:3 ratio, with the sand volume substituted by paper at variations of 80%, 90%, and 100%. Density engineering was conducted by compressing the initial mixture volumes of 120%, 130%, 140%, and 150% into a standard size of 5 cm x 10 cm x 20 cm. Mechanical performance testing involved single blocks, paired blocks bonded with a 1 cm mortar joint, and conventional red bricks as a control comparison. Experimental results demonstrate that most papercrete variants qualify as structural materials within classes II, III, and IV. Only the 120PB100 sample failed to meet the standard classification. Interestingly, the standard red brick did not qualify for any strength class under the SNI framework. The highest mechanical performance was achieved by the 140PB80 variant, yielding a single-block compressive strength of 70.139 kg/cm². However, when evaluated in a paired formation, the strength of this 140PB80 sample reduced by 29.87% to 49.190 kg/cm².

Abstract

Quality control in manufacturing industries cannot be separated from the interaction between workers, machines, and work procedures, since most production failures stem not only from technical malfunctions but also from the dynamics of the socio-technical system as a whole. PT. XYZ, a paint manufacturing company in Bekasi, West Java, continues to face persistent defective product problems. Based on production data from January to October 2025, the number of defective products reached 625 units, representing 4.84% of total production of 12,977 units, which far exceeds the company's maximum tolerance standard of 2% per year. The two most dominant types of defects identified are color inconsistency with the established standard and the formation of bubbles on the paint product surface. This study aims to identify the types and causes of defective products, determine the most dominant risk factors, and formulate systematic improvement proposals. The Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method was applied to prioritize risks based on the Risk Priority Number (RPN), supported by the Pareto Diagram, Fishbone Diagram, and 5W+1H analysis. The results show that three causes were classified as critical, all exceeding the average RPN of 199.5: human error (RPN = 240), non-standard raw materials (RPN = 216), and poor product viscosity (RPN = 210). Improvement recommendations include routine operator training, consistent SOP enforcement, tighter raw material inspection, regular machine calibration, and strengthening inter-divisional communication between Warehouse, Quality Control, and Production divisions to reduce the defect rate below the 2% company standard.

Abstract

Indoor air pollution in schools often shows high PM2.5 concentrations, primarily due to outdoor air infiltration and dust suspended by student activities. This study aims to analyze the relationship between indoor air quality and lung function impairment among students at MAN 1 Aceh Besar, located in an area with high vehicle density. Using a descriptive-analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, the study involved 78 students selected through proportional random sampling. Results showed that 17.9% of students experienced lung function impairment. PM2.5 concentrations in 65.4% of classrooms were found to exceed the threshold limit value (TLV) of 25 µg/m³, although statistically, it did not show a significant relationship with lung function impairment (p=0.07). However, students in rooms with high PM2.5 levels were 3.8 times more likely to experience impairment compared to those in rooms with PM2.5 levels below the TLV. Physical factors such as temperature (74.4% abnormal) and humidity (50% abnormal) also showed no statistically significant relationship with the students' lung function. Conversely, a significant relationship was found between smoking habits and lung function impairment (p=0.008), where students who smoke are 4.8 times more likely to experience lung function impairment. In conclusion, smoking habits are a risk factor that can increase PM2.5 concentration, damage the respiratory tract, and trigger lung function impairment in students.

Abstract

The laundry industry faces challenges in maintaining service quality, particularly regarding fabric color fading after washing. Assessments that are still performed manually tend to be subjective and inconsistent, so a more objective automated classification system is required. This study aims to apply and compare three algorithms, namely KNN, SVM, and Random Forest, to classify the level of fabric color fading based on digital images. The features used comprise color in the RGB and HSV spaces as well as shape in the form of area and shape ratio, all extracted automatically. A total of 300 images were divided into 250 training data and 50 testing data, then mapped into three categories, namely not faded, fairly faded, and faded. The testing results show that Random Forest delivers the best performance with an accuracy of 0.96, followed by SVM at 0.94 and KNN at 0.88. All models faced difficulties in recognizing the minority class due to data imbalance. This study proves that the machine learning approach, particularly Random Forest, is able to assess color fading levels more accurately and consistently than manual evaluation, while supporting quality control in the laundry industry.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease whose prevalence continues to increase and has become a major public health problem worldwide, including in Indonesia. Adequate knowledge and positive attitudes toward DM are expected to promote preventive behaviors and reduce the risk of developing the disease. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes and the incidence of diabetes mellitus in Gampong Lampanah Rajo. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 41 respondents were selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents did not have diabetes mellitus (90.2%), had good knowledge (80.5%), and demonstrated positive attitudes (85.4%). Among respondents with good knowledge, 90.9% did not have diabetes mellitus, compared to 87.5% among those with poor knowledge. Respondents with positive attitudes who did not have diabetes mellitus accounted for 88.6%, while all respondents with poor attitudes (100%) did not have diabetes mellitus. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between knowledge (p=1.000) or attitudes (p=1.000) and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. It can be concluded that knowledge and attitudes were not associated with the incidence of diabetes mellitus among the study respondents.

Abstract

Bidara Cina is a flood-prone area in East Jakarta due to high rainfall, limited channel capacity, and low elevation along the Ciliwung River. This study analyzes the existing drainage channels' capacity to accommodate design runoff discharge based on BMKG rainfall data and hydrological parameters. Methods include calculating design rainfall intensity (Gumbel/Mononobe method), design discharge (Rational Method), and existing capacity (Manning’s formula) using secondary data from BMKG, BIG, BPS, and East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-department. Main channel segments were selected as representative samples. Based on frequency analysis of 20-year extreme data (2006–2025) from Halim Perdanakusuma Station, the design rainfall intensity is 78.71 mm/hour for a 5-year return period and 96.60 mm/hour for a 10-year return period. Evaluation of 15 channel segments shows that macro channels (Ciliwung River and Ciliwung Waterway) and the main connecting channel (West Otista Raya Street) meet the required capacity. However, 7 secondary channel segments in densely populated areas (RW 06, RW 07, and RW 11) fail to meet capacity or overflow due to narrow dimensions and the lack of local retention polders.

Abstract

Systems of linear equations are fundamental problems in numerical computation and are widely used in engineering, physics, economics, and computer science. Solving large systems of linear equations requires efficient numerical methods, particularly when the coefficient matrix is sparse or diagonally dominant. This study aims to compare the performance of the Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel methods in solving diagonally dominant systems of linear equations using Python. The experiments were conducted on three matrix sizes, namely 3×3, 5×5, and 10×10. The evaluation focused on the number of iterations, final error, Root Mean Square Error, computation time, and speedup. The implementation was carried out using Python 3.12 with the NumPy and Matplotlib libraries. The results show that both methods can produce numerical solutions close to the reference solution. However, the Gauss-Seidel method demonstrates better performance in all test scenarios. In the 10×10 matrix test, the Gauss-Seidel method reached convergence in 20 iterations, while the Jacobi method required 32 iterations. This indicates a 37.50% reduction in the number of iterations. The average speedup of Gauss-Seidel over Jacobi reached 1.85 times. These findings indicate that the Gauss-Seidel method is more efficient for solving diagonally dominant systems of linear equations in a Python-based computing environment.

Abstract

Sumambu leaves (Hyptis capitata Jacq.) can be utilized as a traditional medicinal remedy. However, the direct application of sumambu leaves on the skin is impractical and uncomfortable, so they are formulated into an emulgel dosage form. This study aims to evaluate the physical properties and antibacterial activity of sumambu leaves. This research is an experimental study. The test material was sumambu leaf powder, which was extracted using the maceration method with 96% ethanol as the solvent. The concentrated extract was then formulated into an emulgel and tested for its physical properties, including organoleptic characteristics, spreadability, adhesiveness, and pH. Antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli was tested using the well diffusion method. The antibacterial activity was indicated by the presence of inhibition zones in emulgels with concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The analysis used in this study was descriptive analysis. The results of the physical property tests showed that the emulgel of sumambu extract had good organoleptic properties, adhesiveness, and pH. However, its spreadability did not meet the standard criteria, as the required spread diameter for a good emulgel preparation is 5–7 cm. The antibacterial activity test results showed that the emulgel of sumambu leaf extract exhibited antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%, with average inhibition zone values of 18 mm, 22 mm, and 26 mm, respectively. These results indicate that the emulgel of sumambu leaf extract possesses antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli FNCC0091.
