Abstract

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels developed a corpus of ideas known as Marxism or socialism. The postulates of the Marxist school of thought offer the theoretical framework for the working class's struggles to realize socialism as a superior form of human society. The abolitionist movement of the late 1830s can be linked to the history of feminist ideology. Elizabeth Cady and Lucretia Mott spearheaded the Seneca Falls human rights convention, which served as the. Most recent breakthroughs in feminist thought and practice continue to be disregarded by both Marxist theory and practice. The production of people under patriarchal relations is examined, and feminist theory focuses on the conflicts that arise between women and men as a result of their different relationships to these two types of production. This definition of production, which is frequently used in much Marxist literature, is challenged by feminist theory. Because women in their households typically deal with patriarchy as individuals, feminist practice places a strong emphasis on developing consensus tactics, supporting women in their particular challenges, and assisting each woman in feeling both her oppression and her strength. The left largely misunderstands the importance of this tactic. While feminist activism is just as revolutionary as class struggle, its goal is different: it seeks to overthrow patriarchy. A large portion of the left's hostility toward feminism appears to be the result of misinterpreting Mao's idea of "principal contradiction" to demand a class-first approach. The "primary contradiction" in the modern United States includes conflicts including class, gender, race, ethnicity, and age. Additionally, a fight that primarily targets gender dominance might also succeed in overturning. This paper aims to give a highlight under philosophies of Marxism and feminism literary theory.

Abstract

This study conducted a stylistic analysis focusing on the deviations in the five (5) Bikol poems of Kristian Cordero, an acclaimed poet, fiction writer, and filmmaker based in the Bicol region. The term stylistic deviation refers to violating the ordinary use of a language, language structure, and patterns. This aims to identify the distortions in language and discover the theme conveyed by the deviations. The depiction of deviations was done in three levels: lexical, semantic, and phonological. The five (5) poems from Cordero’s book "Santigwar" were chosen through random sampling using the fishbowl draw technique and extensively interpreted and analyzed by the researchers, who employed documentary analysis and a closed reading method. Documentary analysis is a type of qualitative research in which researchers evaluate and examine documents or literary works in great detail to give meaning to the text. A closed readingtechnique looked at how a text's language and style are used. This analysis aids in comprehending the deviations and how these deviations reinforced poetic theme. The findings and discussion of this study show how Kristian Cordero employed a stylistic method to express themes figuratively. The study reveals that the three style deviations are present and working constructively. Thus, the reader will better understand the poem's stylistic qualities.

Abstract

This study explores the euphemisms in Philippine culture portrayed in Filipino movies. This study attempts to answer the research questions: (1) What euphemisms are used in the movies (a) Remington and the Curse of Zombadings and (b) Die Beautiful along with metaphor, idioms, and hyperbole? and (2) What are the functions of the euphemisms used in the two movies? The researchers analyzed the data using the lens of latent content analysis and qualitative analysis to unpack the meanings and relationships. The data were taken from the script supported by the transcription method. The method of data analysis is described in great detail–Transcribing, Data Reduction, and Data Selection. Study found various euphemisms under metaphor (ng ganun, confimed, Diana Rose, in fairness, magbooking, kaligayahan, and usapan ng mga tao ‘to); Idioms (malakandila ang mga daliri, natuluan ng kandila); Hyperbole (dynamite, mitsa, busy po masyado, hindi kailangan ng utak dito) in the movie Remington and the Curse of Zombadings. In the movie Die Beautiful, numerous euphemisms were also categorized on its types: Metaphor (pambabae, pag inampon mo yang batang yan magiging babae ka na, bantot, lason, mani, wala naman sa kalingkingan, hindi ka pa nagpapabreastfeeding, magkapechay, number 2; Idioms (pakainin kita ng sangkatutak na star margarine, nanginginig yung matres, naputikan ka na); Hyperbole (kahit anino, wala, anak lang ng anak hindi naman nanay, anglalaking wawasak sa’aking puri, 3 inches lang yung ano). Therewere variations of functions seen according to the speaker euphemisms' contexts and purpose, made to inform (conveys new information), evaluate (conveys opinions and attitude), modalize (conveys attitude towards truth and utterance), convince(persuade), criticize (for giving criticisms), order (giving instructions), and refuse (to deny or reject).

Abstract

The threat of Covid-19 continues to plague the whole world including the Philippines.Hence, the need of the people to access news information from all media sources such as the broadsheets has never been as primordial as before. Broadsheets are considered aesthetic genrewhich combined words and pictures to convey news realities. Hence, this study analyzed howlanguage and visual elements delivered meanings about the COVID-19 situation in the countryas portrayed in the front covers of selected broadsheets using the Gibbons, Koszary, and Tandi’s Non-Literary Reading approach. The study showed that Manila Bulletin and Philippine Daily Inquirer front covers disseminate negative emotions, warnings, and fear thaturge the Filipino to be vigilant. However, The Manila Times broadsheet disseminates positive emotion, hope, and encouragement to the Filipinos to get vaccinated. This implies that visualfeatures in multimodal texts are related to the message of the whole, and that visual meaning is becoming the most significant in this multimodal world. Therefore, the researcher recommends this innovative technique for analyzing multimodal text to learn how to interpretthe text, visual elements, and understand the message just by looking at the visual surface.
