Abstract

Reading is a parts of language acquisition communication of sharimg information and ideas. In fact many students in junior high still confuse what is reading.The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of using STAD in student reading comprehension in procedure text. Reading comprehension is essentially the ability to understand what has been read. There is little point in being able to pronounce the words on a page if the words mean nothing to you. After the research finished the research and analyzed the data that obtained from the research, then some conclusion can be drawn. Based on the result of the analysis and computation of the data, the researcher concluded as STAD is effective in improving students’ comprehenssion of reading procedure text.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the effect of using colorful pictures toward students’ English vocabulary mastery at the first grade students of SMK. The research was experimental. The population of the research was of the first grade students of SMK. The sample of the research was 64 students. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The technique that was used to analysis the data is   formula. The finding shows that the score of   (3.27) is higher than   (1.669) from (df) 62. Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that colorful pictures has positive effect toward students’ English vocabulary mastery at the first grade students of SMK. Dealing with the result, it is suggested that teacher to use colorful pictures toward students’ English vocabulary mastery because it can improve students vocabulary at the first grade students.

Abstract

This paper presents the findings of qualitative study aimed at exploring teachingmethod used by the English teachers to teach speaking. Speaking has always been as one ofchallenging skill for most students. The teachers have their own characteristic on applyingmethod to teach their students speaking skill which also suit with their students need. Thesample was the English teachers and students of SMA International Budi Mulia Dua at gradeXI. The data were collected from interviewing three English teachers and six students, as wellobserving the teaching process of speaking class. This result of this study revealed theteachers and students preference on the method which is applied during speaking class. Basedon the interview and classroom observation, there are some teaching methods that were usedby the teacher to teach the student speaking.

Abstract

In recent years, literature is not merely about poetry, prose, novel, short story but also the movie. One of the exciting animation movies is Trolls, produced by DreamWorks Animation in 2016. Undoubtedly, movies are not always about entertainment but can persuasively create an ideology in the kids' minds. Gender stereotypes are a negative impact of ideology that exists all over the world. Two research questions are formulated; what are the stereotypes towards women in Trolls movie and what ideology the movie seems to promote. This research aims to reveal the traditional stereotype towards women in Trolls movies and make the audience aware of the ideology of gender stereotypes towards women. This research applies library research with the descriptive qualitative method. Since this research analyzes gender stereotypes towards women in the movie, binary opposition theory can see the movie's structure. The writer concludes that women’s traditional gender roles stereotypes still exist in this movie. The stereotypes over women through Poppy as the character can be seen as irrational, weak, and submissive. The researcher also can find the patriarchal ideology. The movie promotes the gender issue in this film that shows the man is superior to the woman

Abstract

This article concerns on the translation techniques based on the emphasis of language, source and target. This article is conducted with qualitative reserch design by using library study and review of literature. This article shows that the emphasis in translation, whether source langauge or target language has suitable technique in transfering the idea of source text. This article shows that source language emphasis closely relates to word level equivalence that might be assisted by machine translation or fully exploring human capital of thinking. Meanwhile, the target language emphasis closely relates to sense of language notions which focus on readable and acceptable aspect of translation product.

Abstract

A sentence is a grammatically complete string of words expressing a complete thought. ThIs concept means tgat tgere wukk be kujekt varuiys strubg if wirds . This various string of words will cause different kinds of sentence. The kinds of sentence can be studied from syntactic  and semantic point of view.This article discusses the kinds of sentence from syntax ad semantic point of view. It tries to discuss what kind of sentence a sentence belongs to. The discussion is based on theory of syntax and theory of semantics  and takes a concclussion.A sentence which has one clause and it is ended by a full stop and the speaker asserts its proposition will be a simple sentence, a statement sentence and a declarative sentence as well. Besude these, it may also belong to an analytic sentence if it is necessarily true as the result of the sense of the words in it.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the Cooperative Learning Method in teaching reading comprehension, especially reading Factual Report texts to Class X Catering (JB) students at SMK Negeri 1 Ciamis, Ciamis District, Ciamis Regency, 2017/2018 Academic Year. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the design of this research refers to the Kemmis and Mc.Taggart model which consists of one action one cycle, which begins with planning, action, observation and reflection. This research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2017/2018 academic year, namely in October 2017. The subjects of this research were students of class X Catering Services (JB) SMK Negeri 1 Ciamis, totaling 31 people. The object of research is students' reading comprehension. Research data obtained through observation, interviews, documentation and reading comprehension tests. This study uses qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis. Quantitative methods were used to analyze the data on students' reading test results (pre-test and post-test) which could be used to analyze statistical data on descriptive text learning materials. Meanwhile, qualitative methods were used to analyze data from observations, student questionnaires, and interviews. The data obtained from quantitative and qualitative methods are then compared and matched to obtain the final conclusions from the research. This research consists of two cycles of 4 actions. The average pre-test showed an achievement of 60.48. The average post-test results in the first cycle of meeting 1 increased by 6.81 to 68.06. Cycle I meeting 2 increased from the previous cycle of 4.04 to 72.10. The second cycle of the first meeting increased by 1.44 to 74.2 and in the second cycle of the second meeting it increased by 0.98 to 83.9. The results showed that the Cooperative Learning Method could improve students' reading skills, especially factual report texts.

Abstract

Tehnology has played as a significant role in teaching and learning. As an aspect of technology,E-learning has been believed to be an effective learning media of higher educational in institution.Pandemic Covid’19 is really having huge impact for people around the world unexpected ineducational field. In this era, the activity of teaching and learning process was changed to be anonline term. Thus, the objective of this research is to explore the effect of E learning towardstudents learning interest in Covid’19 era especially in rural area. The researcher conducted inAkademi Kebidanan Wahana Husada Bandar Jaya Central Lampung. The population of thisresearch is the students in AKBID Wahana Husada Bandar Jaya at the first semester in academicyear 2020/2021. The data collecting technique is using questionnaire, and to analysis the data, theresearcher used T-test. The finding of this research, the students more interest to join the classmeeting by E-learning. It saw by their result in fulfill the questionnaire. The result showed that Elearning is having positive effect toward students learning interest in Covid’19 era. The studentsfelt enjoy with this kind of learning.

Abstract

Speaking is one of important skill that really hard to be mastered. It is because English speaking has very unique style and role to play. It needs really hard work for the teachers to teach speaking skill so that the students can improve this skill very well. In fact, the teachers and the students face difficulties in mastering this skill effectively. They have many reasons why this phenomenon could be happen. It is very important to find what the reasons are and why they still have difficulties in mastering the skill and why they still make many errors in facing speaking class. Its really helpful to analyze the solution of this problem. Considering that speaking English is really important in this global era, so the solution must be found soon.

Abstract

English is not the new subject for students, but it still needs a better preparation  in order to make the teaching learning process to be conducted sucsessfully and to reach the quality target. There are many conditions to create a good bilingual Teaching program, the requirements which is in line such as Teacher as a model for the students, their knowledge and ability in implementing the subject in the class. In this reaserch the writer found that the problems encountered by the teachers and students in the bilingual class were: Students found difficulties in developing their four  skills of English, most of non English teacher got difficulties in teaching materials using English as the medium of instruction. Based on the experiences above, the writer tried to present illustration of the situation, the problem and how to solve it. To improve the bilingual teaching, Based on the result of the research, the writer suggested to encourage teachers of bilingual class to attend the seminar of English teaching by any institution suitable for their subjects and the teacher should vary their teaching performances in presenting the materials to the students so that the subjects are more understandable by the students. The teacher should use various English textbooks which are suitable with their major to supplement the English textbooks that the students had already got.Â
