Abstract

Limited public speaking Mastery among students highlight the need for structured guidance and continuous practice. To address this issue, MTs. NU Malintang Jae implemented a speech extracurricular activity as a platform to enhance students’ speaking Mastery. This study aimed to analyze students' speaking skills and identify the challenges they faced during the activity. A qualitative field study method was used, involving 25 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that 52% of students had a "very good" level of speaking Mastery, 28% were at a "good" level, and 20% were at a "fair" level. Challenges were observed in fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and audience engagement. Specific difficulties were related to psychological factors (8 students), linguistic factors (12 students), environmental factors (1 student), and public speaking skill factors (4 students). These were mainly associated with lack of confidence and speaking-related anxiety. It is recommended that speech extracurricular activities provide more targeted support and practice opportunities to help students overcome these challenges and improve their speaking performance.

Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of the use of storytelling as a technique to improve speaking ability in English. The research was conducted with 22 students of the English Education Study Program at STAIN Mandailing Natal during the fifth semester. Data were collected through a questionnaire (8 closed-ended) and semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that students perceived storytelling as an effective strategy to enhance fluency, vocabulary mastery, confidence, and communicative competence in everyday situations. Storytelling also increased classroom engagement and motivation. Furthermore, the interview data demonstrated that storytelling encouraged students to express opinions more easily and confidently, reduced speaking anxiety, and facilitated vocabulary retention. The study concludes that storytelling is not only an enjoyable and creative method but also a pedagogically significant technique that can bridge classroom learning with real-life communication.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the types and the factor influence of deixis found in the Elemental movie. The study applies Levinson’s theory of deixis, which classifies deixis into five categories: person, time, place (location), discourse, and social deixis. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data are collected from the movie script of Elemental Movie (2023), focusing only on the characters’ spoken dialogues. Each deictic expression found in the script was identified, categorized, and analyzed based on Levinson’s Theory. The first findings show that a total of 320 deixis were found in the movie, consisting of 191 person deixis, 37 time deixis, 45 place deixis, 26 discourse deixis, and 21 social deixis. Person deixis is the most dominant, indicating that personal relationships and speaker-hearer references play a central role in the film. Second findings, the study identifies several contextual factors that influence deixis usage, including participant roles, usage function, levels of intimacy, formality/informality, and social status. These factors contribute to how deixis is used to reflect dynamics, emotional expressions, and narrative flow within movie.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami dinamika kohesivitas kelompok pada Karang Taruna Barisan Muda 08 di Kota Semarang sebagai organisasi pemuda yang baru terbentuk. Fokus kajian meliputi lima aspek kohesivitas kelompok menurut Forsyth (2014), yaitu kohesi sosial, kohesi tugas, kohesi kolektif, kohesi emosional, dan kohesi struktural. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis tematik Braun dan Clarke (2019). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kohesivitas kelompok berkembang kuat terutama melalui interaksi sosial yang intens dan suasana kebersamaan yang tercipta secara natural. Kohesi sosial tampak melalui hubungan antaranggota yang akrab dan aktivitas nonformal yang rutin dilakukan bersama. Kohesi tugas terlihat dari kerja sama yang fleksibel dan saling mendukung meskipun struktur organisasi belum sepenuhnya matang. Kohesi kolektif terbentuk melalui rasa memiliki dan identitas kelompok yang dipersepsikan sebagai keluarga. Kohesi emosional muncul dari lingkungan kelompok yang nyaman, suportif, dan mampu menyelesaikan konflik secara musyawarah. Sementara itu, kohesi struktural masih berkembang karena organisasi masih baru, sehingga norma informal menjadi penggerak utama. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya penguatan kohesivitas dalam tahap awal perkembangan organisasi pemuda.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi nilai disiplin, tanggung jawab, dan sopan santun siswa melalui kegiatan observasi kelas sebagai bagian dari upaya peningkatan karakter peserta didik dalam lingkungan sekolah. Fokus utama penelitian diarahkan pada bagaimana ketiga nilai tersebut ditampilkan siswa dalam perilaku sehari-hari selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah observasi kualitatif dengan mencatat secara langsung berbagai tindakan, interaksi, dan pola perilaku siswa selama berada di dalam kelas. Data dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan dokumentasi pendukung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai disiplin siswa terlihat dari kemampuan mereka mengikuti aturan kelas, ketepatan waktu, serta kesiapan dalam menerima pelajaran. Nilai tanggung jawab tercermin melalui penyelesaian tugas tepat waktu, penggunaan fasilitas kelas secara benar, dan partisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Sementara itu, nilai sopan santun tampak dari cara siswa berkomunikasi dengan guru dan teman sebaya, penggunaan bahasa yang santun, serta sikap saling menghargai.

Abstract

Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di tingkat madrasah ibtidaiyah menghadirkan berbagai tantangan bagi guru, terutama dalam mengadaptasi pendekatan pembelajaran yang lebih fleksibel dan berpusat pada peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis tantangan yang dihadapi guru dalam menerapkan Kurikulum Merdeka di MIN 03 Muaro Jambi. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui metode studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi terhadap guru-guru di sekolah tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tantangan utama meliputi keterbatasan pemahaman konsep Kurikulum Merdeka, minimnya pelatihan yang memadai, kesulitan dalam menyusun modul ajar, keterbatasan sarana prasarana pendukung, serta beban administrasi yang cukup tinggi. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan masukan bagi pengambil kebijakan dalam merancang program pendampingan yang lebih efektif guna mendukung keberhasilan implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di madrasah ibtidaiyah.
