Abstract

Background: Odontectomy actions require a relatively longer time compared tothe usual tooth extraction because there are basic steps or stages in a procedural plan of action as well as the difficulty of the position of the teeth. Purpose: Knowing the relationship of classification third molar teeth impaction with long of odontectomy treatment in Rumkital Dr. Ramelan Surabaya. Materials and Methods: The type of this research is observational with cross sectional approach. Sampling was done by total sampling in patients of third molar teeth impaction under the treatment odontectomy in Rumkital Dr. Ramelan Surabaya during March and April 2015. The data was collected prospectively by recording the length of time the action starts odontectomy suturing of the incision using the stopwatch and panoramic radiography result and medical consent form action. Result:.Class I based positioning and angulation showed that the fastest is the class IA mesioangular with 3 patients with an average time of 12 minutes 14 seconds and the longest is the vertical IA class by 4 people with an average time of 15 minutes 42 seconds. Class IIA is vertical with 12 patients with an average time of 12 minutes 57 seconds and the longest is the class IIB in 1 patient distoangular average time of 38 minutes 56 seconds. Class IIIC mesioangular with 3 people on average time of 19 minutes 42 seconds and the longest is the horizontal IIIC class II patients with an average time of 44 minutes. Conclusion: Classification of impacted third molar teeth under the Class I has the fastest time (13 minutes 56 seconds) when compared to Class II (18 minutes 14 seconds) and class III (29 minutes 12 seconds), while based on the depth position C has the most time long with horizontal angulation.

Abstract

Background: The company is able to be the basis of the formation of customer loyalty and fanaticism of the product or service through a strong brand. Having a strong brand is a vital aspect for any company, because the advantage gained diverse. Based on the data in 2014 and 2015, it showed the decreased number of patients at the Dental Hospital of Hang Tuah University (UHT Dental Hospital) from 2014 to 2015 amounted to 949 people (8%), as well as the number of patients in the Polyclinic of Medical Specialists of UHT Dental, were 14,6% (348 patients) from ideal capacity (2384 patients). Purpose: The aim of this study is to find out the influence of branding to brand awareness in dental hospital of Hang Tuah University. Materials and Methods: This study was an observational study that used 200 respondences from the patients population of UHT Dental Hospital. The study was conducted at UHT Dental Hospital from March-April 2016. Result: The results showed that the characteristics of patients who seek treatment at the UHT Dental Hospital were majority adults in productive age (25-35 years old), at middle to lower-end of socio-economic class, and had the education level of SLTA grade. Most of respondents had bad perception for the brand attributes of UHT Dental Hospital. Most of them had low brand awareness. The majority of respondents rated the branding of UHT Dental Hospital were bad. Conclusion: There was a tendency if the branding were good, the brand awareness was getting better.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of malloclussion in Indonesia reached 80% in 2013, accordingly, orthodontic treatment needs also increased. Orthodontic treatment is a treatment to improve the arrangement of teeth. Orthodontic treatment causes movement of the teeth, but this treatment takes quite long time around 15-24 months and it needs an additional therapy to accelerate it.. Fibroblast is a main cell in periodontal ligaments that has an important role on orthodontic tooth movement. Stichopus hermanii (golden sea cucumber) and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can induce fibroblast proliferation. Purpose: To investigate how the innovation of Stichopus hermanii and HBOT can increase the number of Fibroblast in periodontal ligament during orthodontic tooth movement. Materials and Methods: This research used Randomized Post Test Only Control Group Design. The sample involve 30 male adult guinea pigs was randomly divided into 5 groups: negative groups (K-), positive groups (K+), Stichopus hermanii treatment group (P1), HBOT group (P2), and combination group(P3). In K+ and treatment groups, maxillary incisors of guinea pig was placed a helical spring in order to move the teeth to distal. To analyze the number of fibroblast on histology, used Hematoxylin Eosin (HE). Data analysis uses One Way ANOVA, Post Hoc LSD, and Paired T Test. Result: Research data shows an increased average of fibroblast number in the pressure area, K(-): 10,8±0,83; K(+): 9±1,14; P1: 10±1,58; P2: 10,6±1,51; P3: 11±1,41 and in the tension area also experienced an increased average of fibroblast number, K(-): 11,6±1,11; K(+): 12,6±2,88; P1: 14,6±1,14; P2: 16,6±1,14; P3: 18,2±1,92. Conclusion: Innovation of Stichopus hermanii and HBOT increased the number of fibroblast in periodontal ligament during orthodontic tooth movement.

Abstract

Background: Individuals in our contemporary society tend to depend on various types of services, including health care service. Managers of health care services must be aware of this situation to improve image and reputation as a public’s choice services. Image is an award obtained by a company for their excellence in services. In improving the image, a company needs the public’s or consumer’s appraisals for a marketing strategy formation. Purpose: As information to develop the image of Dental and Oral Hospital of Hang Tuah University, Surabaya. Materials and Methods: descriptive analysis with cross sectional research design was used in this study. Simple random sampling of probability sampling technique was used to choose 100 respondents of this study. Respondents were given a questionnaire to assess the image of Dental and Oral Hospital, Hang Tuah University Surabaya. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Result: Results on the image of Dental and Oral Hospital of Hang Tuah University showed that 83 respondents rated moderately good image, while 17 respondents rated poor image. Conclusion: Based on the SWOT matrix, it can be concluded that several development through consideration of internal and external factors can be beneficial to the progress of Dental and Oral Hospital of Hang Tuah University, Surabaya.

Abstract

Background: Candida albicans (C.Albicans) causes oral candidiasis. Candida adhesion proteins stimulate the immune system to eliminate C.albicans chloroform extract of acanthus leaves ilicifolius have inhibitory against C.Albicans. Purpose: To proved the potential Acanthus ilicifolius (A.ilicifolius) extract to inhibit the growth of C.Albicans in rats with oral candidiasis. Materials and Methods: This study was true experimental with post test only control group design. Wistar rats were used and imunosupressed with dexamethasone and ditetrasiklin peroral after that induced by C.albicans 6x108 on the tongue of rats for14 days. Divided into five groups, healthy (G1), candidiasis (G2), treatment group 1 (G3): candidiasis + nystatin, Treatment 2 (G4): candidiasis+extract A.Ilicifollius 8%, and Treatment 3 (G5) : candidiasis+extract A.Ilicifollius 16%. The rats was treated for 14 days after induction of candida. A.Ilicifollius chloroform extraction method was maceration. Samples was processed immunohistochemistry staining methods and added antibody anticandida albicans (IgG mouse). Observed the results using microscope (magnification 400x). Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann Whitney. Results: There was significant differences between G1 with G2, G3, G4, G5 (p˂0,05). There was significant difference between G2 to G3, G4 and G5 (p˂0,05). There was no significant difference between G3, G4, and G5 (p˃0,05). Conclusion. A.ilicifollius extract have potential to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans in rats with oral candidiasis.

Abstract

Background: The traumatic ulcer is the most common oral soft tissue lesion that cause physiologic dissorder (pain) in patients, so it need a medicine to improving healing processs.Stichopus hermanii contains glycosaminoglycans, omega-3 and other agents that accelerate wound healing. Their influence againts signaling cell for proliferation and angiogenic for healing procce. Endoglin plays in a number of cellu- lar processes and the elevated expression during wound healing. Purpose: Knowing the effectivity of ethanol extract of Stichopus hermanii towards the expression on traumatic ulcer maturation phase in oral mucosa. Materials and Methods: The research subjects were forty eight wistar rats divided into 6 groups. Traumatic ulcer was made in the center-rat’s-labial-mucosa. The X1 group was smeared with sterilized aquades as the control group. The X2 was smeared with 0,2% hialuronic acid, X3 with 60% ethanol extract, and X4 with 80% ethanol extract. They were smeared once a day during 4 days. On the sixth day, the rat’s labial mucosa was biopsied to make histological preparation in order to study the amount of fibroblast. Results: Kruskal-Wallis test showed not significant difference (p=0,000) after applying Stichopus hermanii extract for expression of endoglin in Conclusions: ethanol extractStichpus hermanii not effective for expression of endoglin on traumatic ulcer maturation phase in healing procces.

Abstract

Background: Enterococcus faecalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum are the most common bacteria found in infected root canal teeth and most of them often caused failure in endodontic treatments. These bacteria can form biofilm which makes them more resistant against antibacterial agents. Biofilm formation also causes a decrease in antibiotics and antimicrobials sensitivity. Pluchea indica Less leaves is a species of plants that has several chemical properties. It consists of flavonoids and polyphenols which have benefits to inhibit biofilm formation. Because of its benefits, the extract of Pluchea indica Less leaves can be potentially developed as one of sterilization dressing in root canal teeth. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine biofilm formation inhibition of Pluchea indica Less leaves extract against Enterococcus faecalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum. Materials and Methods: The dilution method was done first to show the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the extract. The inhibition biolfilm formation was tested using microtitter plate assay by measuring the bacterial biofilm Optical Density (OD) from ELISA reader’s results and using autoagregation assay to show the inhibition of adherance bacteria. The Pluchea indica Less leaves extract concentration used for inhibition of biofilm formation were 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, and 6,25%. Results: The result of biofilm formation inhibition showed that Pluchea indica Less leaves extract were able to inhibit Enterococcus faecalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum’ biofilm formation with strong moderate effect. The autoagregation assay showed a decrease in autoagregation percentation of Enterococcus faecalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum. Conclusions: Pluchea indica Less leaves extract has effect to inhibit biofilm formation of Enterococcus faecalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum.

Abstract

Background: Orthodontic treatment requires time so, duration of orthodontic treatment time needs to be shortened in various ways. Flavonoid is an active content of propolis, that might accelerate tissue regeneration. Flavonoid might increase the number of fibroblast at tension side of orthodontic tooth movement. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of propolis extract gel towards the number of fibroblasts at tension side to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement. Materials and Methods: Thirty male Cavia cobayas were divided into three groups. The first group, ( P) was given treatment to make orthodontic tooth movement and propolis extract gel. The second group, K(+) was given treatment and NaCMC gel. The third group, K(-) was served as control. After 14 days, the Cavia cobayas were sacrified. Fibroblast number was examined with light microscope 400 X. Result: Mean and SD in K(-):100 ± 13,2; K(+):80 ± 13,05; (P):176 ± 17,9. The result of ANOVA test showed significant increase in the number of fibroblasts. The LSD test showed significant result in all groups with significance result p ≤ 0,05. Conclusion: Propolis extract can increase fibroblast number to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement.

Abstract

Background: Telescopic double crown restoration can be used as an alternative treatment if the patient wants the tooth to be maintained as long as the supporting tooth has a healthy periodontal. In dental preparation telescopic double crown support requires a preparation guide so that the preparation can be acurate. Minimal preparation can cause the results of the telescopic double crown restoration to be overcontoured, so that the patient may occur uncomfortable, speech disorders and esthetic is not good. Objective: to provide information about the importance teeth preparation guidelines for prosthodontic treatment with telescopic double crown restorations. Case: A 72-year-old female patient, coming to the dentist wants to make dentures so that she can chew food well and improve her appearance. The remaining teeth are only 13 and 23. In making the denture, the patient wants the teeth to be retained (not removed) and the denture is aesthetically good. Case Management: Make a diagnostic wax-up on a semiadjustable articulator to estimate the results of restoration, mould the patient's teeth before starting the preparation with three times putty for the preparation guide and making a temporary crown. the first putty mold is cut mesial-distal right in the middle of the incical teeth, the second putty mould is cut in the labial-palatal direction right in the middle of the tooth mould, the third putty mould is fixed on the stock tray to make the temporary crown. Preparation of teeth 13 and 23 with regard to the putty cut preparation guide, then moulding the maxilla and mandibula with double impressions using an individual tray, after that make the temporary crown directly with the third putty mould. Conclusion: The preparation guide of teeth is very necessary so that the making of telescopic double crown restorations is not overcontoured, so that esthetic and retention can be achieved which are good and do not cause speech disorders.

Abstract

Background: The uses of silver nanoparticle are growing so fast, especially in the medical science, it’s used in many kinds of concentration. In dentistry, it’s used to decrease halitosis and periodontal diseases, and also wound healing process. It can affect the viability of the cells, give the bad effects to the human’s health and environment if we use it in a long-term and in an uncertain concentration. Purpose: The aim of the study was to analysis the healing process of gingival fibroblast in Rattus novergicus after exposed by 15 µg/ml silver gel nanoparticles. Materials and Methods: This study uses 9 male wistar rats were divided into 3 groups. Group A: Cut (hurt it) in the oral gingiva and exposed to Ag-Np Gel 15 µg/ml for 3 days. After 3 days, they were sacrificed and cut the gingival fibroblast off 3x4 cm size with scalpel. Group B: cut in the oral gingiva and exposed to Ag-Np Gel 15 µg/ml for 5 days. After 5 days they were sacrificed and cut the gingival fibroblast off 3x4 cm size with scalpel. Group C: cut in the oral gingiva and exposed to none for 3 days then cut the gingival fibroblast off 3x4 cm size with scalpel. The expressions of IL-8 in the wound healing process were painted by Immunohistochemical method. This data was analyzed by using the t-test method. Results: General characteristic of IL-8 is shown in brown color immunoreactive expression on macrophage via immunohistochemical painting with monoclonal antibody anti IL-8. Mean expression numbers of IL-8 in the group A = 11,7; group B = 16,3; and group C (control) = 28,3. T-test sign.number of group A & C = 0,004; group B & C = 0,000. Conclusion: The exposure of 15 µg/ml silver gel nanoparticle to gingival fibroblast of Rattus novergicus reduces the expressions of IL-8 in the day-3 and day-5 post exposure. So, it may accelerate the wound healing process.
