Abstract

Background: One of the most common inflammation disease in the oral cavity for the past few years is the aggressive form of periodontitis. Common signs of aggressive periodontitis is the mobility of teeth especially in incisive and first molars, and occuring mostly in young patient. Young patients whose losing her anterior teeth, are a real challenge for dentist and prosthodontist. Prosthodontist need to consider both functional and esthetic aspects. Objective: Rehabilitation of young adult patient with aggressive periodontitis by an interdisciplinary approach of orthodontist and prosthodontist. Case Description: A young woman, suffered from aggressive periodontitis with major complain of her teeth mobility, especially incisive and first molar in mandible. She had undergone periodontal treatment, but the result was failed. The anterior teeth in mandible need to be extracted, therefore patient wished not to be in edentulous state. As preliminary treatment, we choose immediate denture to replace the anterior mandible teeth. We faced difficulties in mandible, because her right canine weren’t in the proper dental arch. So we asked orthodontist to place fixed orthodontics in mandible, to get the canine back in the proper arch. We’ve chosen orthodontic treatment, because we didn’t want to extract the canine teeth. We evaluated in six months and after the canine back in the proper arch, we proceed to long span bridge in mandible as our definitive treatment. Conclusion: By not extracting the canine teeth, we got some advantages, especially patient psychically was happier with her own teeth. The collaboration with another dentistry field, provides us better treatment for patient. After treatment, patient had no complaints and was happy with her new smile.

Abstract

Background : There are some factors can cause endodontic failure such as inadequate in cleaning or shaping step, non hermetic obturation, or poor restoration, which can cause bacteria multiply. Purpose : To report the management of endodontic failure with nonsurgical treatment. Case : 46-year-old woman came to Airlangga Dental Hospital Conservative Dentistry Department to treat her upper right tooth which show symptomatic pain in the last 2 weeks. The tooth has been treated and crowned with porcelain fused to metal about 10 years ago. Clinical examination show the presence of fistula on premolar buccal gingiva, react to percussion. Radiographic examination show not hermetic obturation in one root canal and radiolucency in the periapical area. The diagnosis for maxillary first premolar is previously treated tooth with chronic periapical abscess.. Treatment : Crown and post was removed from the tooth, and endodontic retreatment was done. Follow up 6 months after the retreatment show no reaction to percussion, and radiographic examination show no enlargement periapical lesion. Conclusion : Nonsurgical endodontic retreatment always become the first choice to resolve endodontic failure for previously treated tooth.

Abstract

Background: Periodontal tissue is a connective tissue that sorrounding the tooth and consists of gingiva, cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar process. The periodontal disease affecting the soft tissue sorrounding the tooth without any alveolar loss, periodontal ligament or cementum and it is called as gingivitis. If it is untreatment as soon as possible then it will grow fast and infected the alveolar process resulting periodontitis. Gingival Recession is defined as the apical displacement of the gingival margin. Gingival recession showing first step in cemental damage, the exposure of the dentinal tubuli, causing pain and discomfort. Periodontal surgery is the continuing treatment in gingiva. Subpithelial connective tissue graft have been highly predictable in gingival resession therapy with respect to a high percentage of wound healing of the connective tissue.

Abstract

Background: A cause of endodontic treatment failure was sterilization process error so that bacterias still left in the root canal. Enterococcus faecalis were resistant to sterilization medicines, it was necessary to develop natural sterilization medicines such as the Queenpineapple stems that had the antibacterial content. Purpose: The aim of this research was to determine the effectivity of the Queen pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr) stems extract in decreasing the Enterococcus faecalis’s colonies Materials and Methods: This research was true experimental with the post test only control group design. The Queen pineapple stems extract tested its secondary metabolites contents. Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 cultured in Brain Heart Infusion Broth synchronized with Mc Farland 0,5 solution and divided into seven groups (n=7). It used dilution series method, each BHIB tube given by the 100% extract (P1); 50% (P2); 25% (P3); 12,5% (P4) ; 6,25% (P5) ; 3,125% (P6) and without the extract (K(-)), incubated for 24 hours and streaked on Mueller Hinton Agar and incubated for 24 hours, then calculate the colonies’ amount of each group. Datas analyzed by Mann-Whitney U-Test because only 50% and 25% concentration can be calculated. Result: The resultshowed that the Queen pineapple stems contained flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins, also there were significant differences among the 50% and 25% concentration groups p<0.05. Conclusion: The Queen pineapple stems extract’s 50% concentration was effective to decrease the number of Enterococcus faecalis’s colonies.
