Abstract

Critical thinking skills are an important competency in biology learning that needs to be developed through appropriate learning models. This study aims to examine the effect of the problem-solving model on students' critical thinking skills through a literature review. The study was conducted on scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 and obtained through the ERIC and Google Scholar databases using the keywords problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The review results indicate that the application of the problem-solving model has a positive and significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills. Students' active involvement in identifying problems, analyzing information, and formulating solutions based on scientific evidence trains students to think logically, reflectively, and systematically. The problem-solving model is effectively used as a biology learning strategy to develop students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the ICT-based Di-Cre-P (Digital-Creative Pedagogy) learning strategy in enhancing students' critical and creative thinking skills on Environmental Pollution topics. The research method used was a quasi-experimental approach with a Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of two classes of elementary school teacher education students selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included critical thinking essay tests and creative media product assessment rubrics. Data were analyzed using N-Gain scores and Independent Sample T-tests. The results showed a significant increase in the experimental class with an N-Gain score of 0.79 (high category), compared to the control class at 0.31 (low category). The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, meaning the Di-Cre-P strategy is significantly effective in improving students' analytical and innovative abilities. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the student's role as a digital content creator, training both pedagogical and science content aspects simultaneously. It is concluded that the Di-Cre-P strategy is capable of preparing adaptive pre-service teachers ready to support the Pancasila Student Profile in the digital era.students' critical thinking skills. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of using scrapbook media on students’ conceptual understanding of the cell system at MA Qur’an Harsallakum. The research employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of 18 students from class X A. The instrument used was a multiple-choice test oriented toward conceptual understanding (C2–C4), which had been validated for content by three experts and tested for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha. Data analysis included the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, paired t-test, effect size calculation using Cohen’s d, and normalized gain (N-gain). The results showed an increase in the mean score from 28.33 in the pretest to 29.44 in the posttest. The paired t-test yielded a p value < 0.05, indicating a significant difference before and after the use of scrapbook media. However, the N-gain value of 0.006 and Cohen’s d = 0.08 indicated that the improvement was classified as low with a small effect size. Scrapbook media supports concept visualization, but more optimal instructional time is required.

Abstract

This study focuses on exploring the problems faced by biology teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan in integrating biology concepts with Islamic values. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study involved all biology teachers in the region through total sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed that teachers faced various obstacles, such as a dichotomous view of science and religion, limited understanding of Islam, lack of professional training, and lack of adequate teaching materials and supporting facilities. These findings emphasize the importance of improving teacher competence, providing integrated teaching materials, and providing continuous institutional support so that the integration of Biology learning and Islamic values can be carried out more effectively. In addition, this study opens up opportunities for the development of more applicable and contextual learning models, thereby enriching the study of the integration of science and religion in Islamic education.

Abstract

Student learning outcomes are an indicator of educational success that is influenced by internal and external factors. A major problem that often arises in the classroom is a lack of variety in teaching methods, which leads to boredom and passivity among students. Question cards are an innovative learning medium that is simple yet interactive and can increase student participation. This study aims to generalize and identify the success of applying question cards in improving student learning outcomes. This study applies a qualitative approach with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design. Based on a literature review, the use of question cards as a medium in learning activities has been proven to have a significant positive effect on increasing student engagement and learning outcomes beyond the learning outcomes achieved through conventional methods. This finding provides a theoretical basis for educators to maximize the use of innovative instructional media in the digital age.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model Project Creative Learning (PCL) terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada materi pokok siklus air kelas VII di SMPN 23 Ambon. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian nonequivalent control group design. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas, yaitu kelas VII-A sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VII-B sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes pilihan ganda sebanyak 20 soal yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji statistik independent sample t-test melalui aplikasi SPSS versi 29. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara hasil belajar siswa yang menggunakan model PCL dan pembelajaran konvensional. Rata-rata nilai N-Gain pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,64 (kategori sedang) dan pada kelas kontrol sebesar 0,30 (kategori rendah), dengan nilai signifikansi (Sig. 2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 < 0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model Project Creative Learning berpengaruh signifikan terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar siswa pada materi siklus air.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and synthesize the impact of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on critical thinking skills in biology education through a literature review. The research method used was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by analyzing six accredited scientific articles from the Google Scholar database spanning the years 2020–2025. The results indicate that the consistent application of the PBL model has a significant positive impact on improving students’ critical thinking skills compared to conventional models. This is evidenced by the higher average posttest scores of the experimental class and the results of statistical tests with a significance value of 0.000. This improvement is attributed to the PBL model presenting authentic problems that encourage students to conduct independent investigations, in-depth analysis, and group collaboration in finding solutions. The conclusion of this study is that the PBL model is an effective strategy for equipping students with critical and analytical thinking skills in biology.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills represent a core competency in 21st-century biology education, as they enable students to grasp concepts deeply and address problems logically. This study evaluates the level of critical thinking abilities among Phase E students at SMA Negeri 1 Koto Balingka. It employs a descriptive quantitative approach, utilizing a questionnaire developed from critical thinking indicators. Data analysis is conducted descriptively to illustrate achievements across each indicator. The findings reveal that students' critical thinking remains at a moderate to adequate level, particularly in constructing logical arguments and explaining concepts scientifically. This highlights the need for more innovative and effective teaching strategies to optimize the development of students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Biology learning in Madrasah Aliyah tends to be separated from islamic values. This study focuses on the challenges feced by teachers in integrating biology with islam teachings, aiming to uncover various obstacles encountered by biology teachers in state Madrasah Aliyah Pasaman Barat. The research employs a gualitative descriptive method with a population of biology teachers, and data collection through in depth interviews and classroom observations. The analysis result reveal problems such as limited integrative media constrained learning time. And teachers competency gaps in integrating biology with islam in conclusion, teacher training and the development of structured teaching materials based on biology-islam integrations are need to ad dress these issues.

Abstract

The integration of Islamic values in biology learning in madrasahs is important to develop scientific understanding while also shaping students’ religious character. However, its implementation still faces various challenges. This study aims to analyze the problems experienced by teachers in integrating Islamic values into biology learning at Madrasah Aliyah in Payakumbuh City and Lima Puluh Kota Regency. This research used a descriptive approach with a survey method. The research subjects were biology teachers at Madrasah Aliyah in the area. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews and then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the main obstacles include teachers’ lack of understanding of the concept of integrating Islam and biology, teachers’ educational background which is predominantly in the field of science, limited integrated learning resources, and the lack of training related to integrative learning. These conditions cause the integration of Islamic values in biology learning to not yet be implemented systematically. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve teachers’ competencies through training, the provision of integrated teaching materials, and support from madrasah policies.
