Abstract

Harapan Forest in Jambi Province represents one of Indonesia’s most prominent ecosystem restoration initiatives, yet its implementation has generated tensions between conservation objectives, green economy programs, and local livelihood interests. This study examines how ecosystem restoration, green economy initiatives, and forest conflicts are constructed and represented in public discourse surrounding the Harapan Forest. Using a qualitative approach, the research applies critical discourse analysis to 36 news articles published by Kompas.com and Tribun Jambi and analyzes the data using NVivo 12. The findings reveal three interconnected issues. First, a restoration dilemma emerges from competing priorities between biodiversity conservation and the economic dependence of local and indigenous communities on forest resources. Second, green economy initiatives, particularly social forestry and community partnership schemes, create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods but face challenges related to unequal access, land tenure disputes, and implementation constraints. Third, forest conflicts persist among local communities, indigenous groups, forest encroachers, PT Restorasi Ekosistem Indonesia (PT REKI), and state authorities over land management rights, resource access, and conservation regulations. The analysis further demonstrates the significant role of transnational actors, including BirdLife International, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and international donors, in shaping restoration governance and conflict dynamics. This study contributes to the literature by providing a discourse-based analysis of ecosystem restoration that integrates environmental governance, green economy practices, and conflict dynamics, while highlighting the influence of transnational actors in Indonesia’s social forestry and restoration policies.

Abstract

The growing use of Virtual Reality (VR) in science education has attracted considerable attention due to its potential to create immersive, interactive learning experiences. However, previous studies have mainly focused on cognitive outcomes, while research specifically examining students’ learning motivation remains fragmented. Therefore, this study aims to analyze publication trends, country contributions, mapping of academic fields, and the implementation of VR in science education related to students’ learning motivation. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data were collected from the Scopus database using Publish or Perish 8, covering publications from 2016 to 2026, and 25 selected articles were analyzed qualitatively. The findings indicate that research on VR in science education has increased significantly, particularly after 2020, with the United States, Taiwan, Spain, and China as the major contributors. The studies were dominated by Computer Science and Social Sciences, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of VR research. Furthermore, VR was found to enhance students’ learning motivation through immersive experiences, interactivity, engagement, and contextual visualization. However, excessive immersion may increase cognitive load if not supported by appropriate instructional design. Therefore, VR should be integrated with appropriate pedagogical strategies to create more engaging, student-centered science learning environments.

Abstract

The increasingly humanistic development of Human Resource Management (HRM) requires the integration of social and cultural values into organizational practices. However, local culture is often perceived as limiting women’s participation and gender equality. This study aims to analyze cohesion within the Mapalus Rumah culture and explore its potential as a local wisdom–based model for women’s empowerment in HRM. The novelty of this study lies in positioning Mapalus Rumah culture as a culturally grounded HRM model that integrates women’s participation, social cohesion, and collective empowerment into modern organizational management. This research employed a qualitative approach with an exploratory descriptive design. Sixteen informants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 12 women actively involved in Mapalus Rumah activities and 4 supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman with triangulation to ensure validity. The findings show that cohesion in Mapalus Rumah culture is built through continuous social interaction, mutual trust, open communication, and collective commitment. Women play strategic roles as initiators, decision-makers, and social agents within the community. Strong patterns of emotional support, solidarity, and resource exchange among women also contribute to strengthening individual capacity and collective social resilience. These findings indicate that local culture can function as an inclusive space that supports contextual gender equality, understood as gender relations that adapt to local social and cultural contexts while still promoting equal participation and opportunities for women. This study concludes that Mapalus Rumah culture has strong potential as a culturally based management model relevant to modern organizations. The integration of cohesion, participation, solidarity, and community-based support into HRM practices can serve as an effective and sustainable strategy for women’s empowerment, employee engagement, and socially adaptive organizational development in the modernization era.

Abstract

This study aimed to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of essay test instruments used in the daily assessment of the Learning Planning and Microteaching course. This research employed a descriptive method with an item analysis approach. The subjects of this study were fifth-semester students of the Automotive Engineering Education Study Program, while the object of the study consisted of 15 essay items used in the daily assessment of the Learning Planning and Microteaching course. The study was conducted on September 25, 2025, involving 20 student respondents. Qualitative analysis of the test instrument was carried out by an expert to detect and correct weaknesses in the material, construction, and language aspects so that the instrument is valid in content and objective before being used. Quantitative analysis of test instruments is the process of testing the quality of test instrument items to determine item discrimination, Level of difficulty, and external validity reliability. The results showed that, based on the qualitative analysis, all items met the criteria for material, construction, and language aspects. However, the quantitative analysis, including difficulty index, discrimination index, validity, and reliability, indicated that several items required revision. Items 11 and 12 need revision because they showed weaknesses in validity, although their difficulty and discrimination indices were still acceptable. Meanwhile, items 2, 5, 8, 14, and 15 require more substantial revision or replacement because they have poor discrimination power. Overall, the essay test instrument can be considered moderately feasible, but it still requires improvement before being used as a strong formative assessment instrument.

Abstract

Previous studies regarding the combined effect of financial decisions and sustainability risks on firm value show inconsistent results, creating a research gap. This study examines the direct effect of capital structure and ESG risk rating, vital in Indonesia's capital market, on firm value, and the moderating effect of profitability. This research used cross-sectional data from 85 companies listed on the IDX in 2024. The sample was adjusted to 47 companies because the initial data was not normally distributed; thus, outlier elimination using the boxplot method was performed to normalize it. Analysis used cross-sectional regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) using Stata 17. Results indicate a positive and significant direct effect of capital structure on firm value. However, the ESG risk rating found no significant effect on firm value. Furthermore, capital structure on firm value moderated by profitability showed insignificant results. Meanwhile, ESG risk rating on firm value with profitability as a moderating variable proved positive and significant. These findings confirm that profitability can strengthen the effectiveness of ESG risk management in increasing firm value. Practically, corporate managers must maintain profitability to ensure ESG initiatives optimally impact market value, while investors can use these combined metrics to identify high-quality assets.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital media has transformed political communication practices by enabling faster information dissemination, broader public participation, and greater interaction between political actors and audiences. However, these developments have also raised ethical concerns regarding the accuracy, objectivity, and responsibility of political communication in digital environments. Despite extensive discussions on digital political communication, limited research has specifically examined how political communication ethics are practiced within digital mass media and how these practices influence the quality of political information and public opinion formation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of political communication ethics in digital media, identify the factors influencing its application, and examine its implications for political information quality and public opinion formation. A qualitative approach with a descriptive-interpretive method was employed. The research participants consisted of online journalists, editors, and media and political communication experts selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through non-participant observation of political news content, in-depth semi-structured interviews, and documentary analysis of news texts, journalistic codes of ethics, and editorial policies. Data were analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the implementation of political communication ethics in digital media is often situational and characterized by compromises between ethical standards, market demands, and political interests. Individual factors, organizational structures, and socio-cultural dynamics within the media ecosystem influence the practice. Furthermore, inconsistencies in ethical implementation contribute to the decline of political information quality and encourage the emergence of emotional, polarized, and less rational public opinion. The study concludes that strengthening political communication ethics is essential for maintaining information credibility and promoting democratic discourse in the digital era. This research contributes to the development of political communication theory by highlighting the interaction between ethical principles and digital media dynamics, while also providing practical recommendations for media organizations, journalists, and policymakers to enhance ethical standards in political communication.

Abstract

Transportation models are typically used to optimize shipping costs for products, however, their application in agricultural harvest planning remains limited. The purpose of this study is to explore the use of transportation models for optimizing biopharmaceutical crop harvest production. The research method is a quantitative optimization approach by transforming harvest production and land allocation data into a transportation model matrix. The matrix of the transportation model for the harvest of biopharmaceutical crops is adjusted to address the existing problems. In this model, sub-districts were treated as sources, crop types as destinations, and average harvest yield per square meter as the optimization parameter. The model that has been formed is then simulated and solved using POM-QM software with Vogel's Approximation Method (VAM). The model solution shows that the harvest of all biopharmaceutical crops is 4,187,642 Kg. This means that the simulation results of the transportation model are 136,697 Kg (3.37%) more than the data in 2023. These findings indicate that the transportation model can effectively support harvest production planning.

Abstract

History education in the digital era cannot be confined to mere fact-reproduction and chronology; it must cultivate students’ historical thinking skills through source analysis, contextualization, and evidence-based reasoning. Although prior research and development (R&D) established that Public History–Based Image Cloud Recognition (ICR) media improved students’ historical thinking, that study did not appraise the model through a systematic program-evaluation framework, leaving its contextual fit, design quality, implementation process, and outcomes formally unevaluated. This study, therefore, conducts a secondary, evaluative reanalysis of that implementation using the Context–Input–Process–Product (CIPP) framework; no new primary data were collected. The reanalysis drew on the original survey, observation, interview, and pretest–post-test data gathered from two senior high schools in Semarang City, Indonesia (SMAN 6 and SMAN 12), each comprising one experimental and one control class. Quantitative differences in post-test historical thinking scores were examined with independent-sample t-tests and complemented by effect-size estimation (Cohen’s d); qualitative records were thematically analysed. The findings show that teachers used varied media but in pedagogically passive ways, while students’ baseline historical thinking was low. The cloud-based ICR media, anchored in local public-history content, produced statistically significant improvements in historical thinking, with t = 8.778 (SMAN 6) and t = 10.239 (SMAN 12), both exceeding the critical value (1.672), p < .001. The CIPP appraisal indicates strong contextual fit and systematic input design, while identifying onboarding, collaboration scaffolding, and data governance as conditions that must be met for adoption to be sustainable. As a secondary CIPP-based evaluation, the study is limited by its dependence on the original dataset and therefore reports conditional rather than conclusive evidence. The findings contribute an evaluative reframing that links contextual needs, programmatic inputs, implementation processes, and learning outcomes for cloud-based history learning.

Abstract

Misconceptions in acid-base chemistry are prevalent and persistent, yet conventional assessments cannot distinguish them from a lack of knowledge or guessing, leaving teachers without actionable diagnostic data. This study aimed to develop, validate, and evaluate a five-tier multiple-choice digital diagnostic e-instrument (eFTMCDI) for acid-base chemistry in Indonesian secondary schools. Using the 4D development model, six experts validated a 30-item draft across two rounds; preliminary psychometric testing involved 30 students, and dissemination was conducted with 61 students across two schools with contrasting academic profiles. The final 23-item instrument demonstrated very high reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.850), 93.3% of items at moderate difficulty, and Very Valid expert ratings across all six dimensions, with practicality confirmed as Very Good by students (96.25%) and teachers (97.75%). Field testing revealed distinct conceptual profiles between schools: the regular-track school was dominated by No Understanding (56.5%). In comparison, the elite-track school exhibited a notably higher Misconception rate (24.8% vs. 13.6%) — a pattern detectable only through the dual confidence-rating architecture of Tiers 2 and 4. Scientific literacy scores differed significantly between schools (84.12 vs. 62.45; p < 0.001). The eFTMCDI may provide a potential tool to support evidence-based formative assessment by simultaneously profiling misconception typology and scientific literacy within a single digital session.

Abstract

Mathematical conceptual understanding is a fundamental competency in secondary mathematics learning, particularly challenging for topics such as algebraic function derivatives. Limited studies have specifically examined mind mapping as a standalone intervention for this topic at the senior high school level in the Indonesian context. This study examines the effect of the mind mapping learning model on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding of algebraic function derivatives. Quasi-experimental pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group; 42 students (23 experimental, 19 control); five-item essay instrument; Cronbach’s α = 0.78; eight instructional meetings; SPSS 29. The findings indicate  = 3.478, p = 0.001, Cohen’s d = 1.07; post-test mean experimental (78.43) vs control (69.05). Mind mapping significantly and practically improved conceptual understanding. Mind mapping is a viable alternative strategy for teachers to deepen conceptual mastery of derivative rules.
