Abstract

The rapid development of science and technology on radiology requires radiology students in particular and radiographers in general to be able to understand and master the science and technology through books or scientific articles, which are mostly written in English. To help them understand the radiological scientific information easily, a complete basic terminologies dictionary on radiology is needed. This study aimed to analyze the vocabularies contained in radiology textbooks linguistically which then are compiled into a radiological pocket dictionary. This research used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were taken in the form of vocabulary list resulted from previous research conducted by the author on radiology textbooks in 2019. This research had 7 stages of activities which include syntactic, morphological, semantic, and phonetic analysis. In addition, the vocabularies then went through 2 stages of evaluation to check the perfection of words regarding to their writing, meaning, and pronunciation. Furthermore, each vocabulary was given an example of its use in the form of sentences in the context of radiology. Results of the study in the form of a pocket dictionary consisting list of basic radiological vocabulary/terms accompanied by the syntactic categories, the meaning of words in Indonesian language that are in accordance with the scientific context of radiology, phonetic transcription, and examples of the use of words in sentences in the context of radiology are expected to contribute to improving the quality of human resources of radiographers in Indonesia.

Abstract

The estimated number of 0 to 4-years-old children with speech disorders in Indonesia is 1.3 million people. If they are not treated properly, they will have serious consequences in adulthood. The Ministry of health of Indonesia has launched a speech disorder detection in The Child Development Monitoring Programs carried out by Posyandu cadres or Community Health Center officers. To support the program, a poster design for the early Detection of Speech Disorders in Toddlers (DeGabbi) has been created. Prior to dissemination, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the poster by conducting qualitative research. FGDs with toddlers’ mothers and posyandu cadres were conducted using an open interview guideline regarding the message, the language, and the appearance of the poster. Triangulation was carried out on Puskesmas officers, media design experts, and Indonesian language experts. Prior to the FGD, informants were asked to look at Degabbi's poster on the room wall for 5 minutes. Results of the FGD showed that all informants understood the poster messages that stated, "Whether the child is a speech delay or not at this age." Regarding the contents of the poster, one informant stated that could not understand the foreign terms, and another informant suggested to add arrows as a flow guide. Concerning the appearance, one informant thought it was better to use a stiffer material and increase the poster size. The triangulation on media design experts provided feedback relating to the images, layout, and flow of posters, while Indonesian language experts provided feedback on the diction of substitute words for foreign terms and the more effective sentences and phrases. After knowing the weaknesses of the DeGabbi poster, it then will be corrected. The DeGabbi poster is expected to be an effective and have leverage for early detection of speech disorders.

Abstract

This research investigates students' polite communication skills towards lecturers in an academic environment. Data was collected through observations and interviews with students from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at FKIP Universitas Perjuangan Tasikmalaya. The main finding is that most students tend to use less polite language in communication with lecturers, including the use of slang, non-compliance with communication ethics, and lack of use of polite words such as "thank you." Factors such as the living environment and relationships outside campus influence student communication patterns. The modern era of technology and easy access to digital content has also influenced their communication practices. This influence has the potential to damage the campus' reputation and create disharmony in the academic environment. Awareness of the importance of language politeness and the active role of educational institutions and lecturers in providing guidance on communication ethics can help create a more conducive academic environment.

Abstract

Academic stress is often found in students and is sometimes difficult to avoid. Stressful conditions often have a negative impact on students' mental health. For this sake, adaptive coping strategies are needed. This present study aims at: (1) describing the level of family resilience; academic self-efficacy; stress coping mechanisms; (2) analyzing the influence of family resilience and academic self-efficacy on stress coping mechanisms. Questionnaires were used as the instrument of this study and multiple regression techniques were applied as the techniques for data analysis. The result revealed that family resilience has a significant effect on stress coping mechanisms (Sig. 0.047 < 0.05), academic self-efficacy has a significant effect on stress coping mechanisms (Sig. 0.005 < 0.05). The effective contribution is 21.58%, family resilience and academic self-efficacy have a significant effect on stress coping mechanisms. Meanwhile, the relative contribution of family resilience to stress coping mechanisms is 38.6%, academic self-efficacy to stress coping mechanisms is 61.4%. Academic self-efficacy has a stronger influence on stress coping mechanisms. In this way, families are expected to increase their family's resilience, students are expected to increase their academic self-efficacy so that they have good stress coping mechanisms and are adaptive in dealing with their academic problems.

Abstract

Education is recognized as a human right and the main key to a nation's progress. The availability of adequate educational facilities in each region is crucial to ensure equal access to education for all citizens. However, Indonesia faces significant challenges in providing equitable educational facilities, especially considering the diverse geographical and demographic conditions between regions. Teluk Bintuni Regency in West Papua Province is one of the areas that requires special attention in improving educational access and facilities, especially because of its geographical conditions, the majority of which are islands with mountains and sea waters. This research aims to analyze the availability of educational facilities in Teluk Bintuni Regency, with a focus on the type and level of schools. Data obtained from the Education Department shows that by 2023, this district will only have 263 schools, consisting of kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and vocational schools. This figure is still considered insufficient and equitable, especially when compared with the population of around 60,000 people spread across 23 sub-districts. The main challenge in providing equitable educational facilities in Teluk Bintuni Regency involves diverse geographic and demographic conditions. Therefore, it is hoped that this research can provide an in-depth evaluation of the current condition of educational facilities, identify existing gaps, and formulate the need for improving educational facilities in the future based on population growth projections. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide a strong basis for policy making by the Teluk Bintuni Regency Government, especially in terms of planning and budgeting for the equitable development of educational facilities. It is also hoped that the conclusions from this research can become a reference for related agencies, such as the Education Office, Bappeda, and the Teluk Bintuni Regency DPRD, in preparing strategic plans for educational development for the next five years.
